Nintendo Switch Save Data Stored Internally Cannot Be Transferred

IGN is reporting that Nintendo Switch save data that’s stored internally can not be transferred to another device. So you won’t be able to transfer save data from one console to another, which is a bit of a pain. The day one update brought SD Card support but those who have saved the games to their consoles have no way of transferring them. System save data can only be deleted, not moved or copied.

  1. So that’s

Looks like we have our first Homebrew app priority. Aw, who am I kidding. Should anything happen to your system/data, Nintendo just wants you to play their games (like a mindless idiot) and couldn’t give two shits about your progress.

Why is Nintendo against the godly feature of backing up save data? We just don’t want to lose our stuff!

  2. This is something that even the 3DS could do because I’ve done it. There’s no way this is a permanent feature (or non-feature). If so, wtf? There’s no “System Transfer?” Guess I’ll be saving BotW to my microSD card I’m buying if I even have that option.

    1. This reminds me of when you could only do 7 system transfers with the 3DS, then were stuck. It took Nintendo a couple years… but they did update it removing the transfer cap.

I agree this just can’t be permanent. It will require a hefty update, but I don’t think it’s impossible to fix.

  3. The 3DS has a feature where you can backup game saves to your SD card in case of a major system failure or irreparable damage. Nintendo really needs to sort this out so you can do the same on the Switch.

  4. Sicar I watch you post this and play, I read this and cant think of a thing to say.
This post just distrubed Grunty’s entire day. Im going to take Gobi to the farm and let him stay while he enjoys some Hay. Will that be okay?

*facepalm* What’s the point in this on day one? Because the first consoles during the first 6 months to a year of the initial release of any & all systems tend to have a couple of faulty ones among them. What if someone got a faulty one, did 20 or more hours worth of progress in say their Zelda game, & suddenly the thing dies on them & can’t be fixed? They can kiss all of that progress good bye. Are you this much of a Nintendo fanboy that you’d think this isn’t a necessary feature day 1 so would defend it like a mindless sheep or are you really just an idiot?

If it’s the latter & you are just an idiot, you of all people really shouldn’t talk about others being a special kind of stupid, bub.

  5. Terrible move.
Internal Storage is one of the worst saving methods in history for any video game console due to it’s poor functionality and limited benefits.
I pray that this doesn’t rule out the possibility of using SD Cards as an option.
Internal save data is just an eyesore in general.

We better get the ability to save our save data to the cloud at some point! It never hurts to have multiple backups for your save data.

    1. Awesome idea, except Nintendo is relentless will patches for the 3DS alone, let alone an ambitious new system they abandoned the Wii U for. During the Switch first few months, they’re going to hawk over the system and make sure nothing gets in. It’s like trying to infiltrate a recently grand opened Fort Knox.

  6. nintendo has confirmed that moving saves to sd or usb media will come post launch theres hundred of switch articles round net i do remember reading one somwhere early today that said this.

dont have source link but i do remember reading it/

  7. I’m really surprised data transfer/backup isn’t a day-one feature on a console meant to travel and therefore more prone to damage. I trust this will come with an update but it’s upsetting to say the least.

We better get an update to fix this very fucking soon! Honestly, it should have been on there DAY FUCKING ONE! What if my Switch suddenly decides to fuck up for whatever reason before this? There goes all of my progress in Zelda: BotW! And it can most definitely fuck up since the first 6 months or a year of a system’s life is notorious for having a few busted systems that fuck up after you’ve done some things on it. What if mine is one of them? *shiver*

If my Switch fucks up & my save data is lost forever before this patch & before I can back up my save data, I’m done. I’m so very fucking done with Nintendo. I lost save data & progress of games on Wii & Wii U so if I have a third instance of that bullshit, I’m done. Console locked bullshit has gotten under my skin way too many times & I refuse to experience it a 3rd fucking time!
