RiME Comes Out May But It’s More Expensive On Nintendo Switch

Independent developer Tequila Works have announced that RiME will be released on May 26th but for whatever reason it will cost £10 more if you want the pleasure of playing the game on the Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions cost $29.99 / €34.99 / £29.99 and are out on May 26th. The Nintendo Switch version, which costs £10 more, will be release shortly afterwards.

RiME is a single-player puzzle adventure game about discovery, experienced through the eyes of a young boy who awakens on a mysterious island after shipwrecking off its coast. Players must navigate the island’s secrets by making use of light, sound, perspective and even time. Inspired by the rugged, sunbaked terrain of the Mediterranean coast, RiME paints its breathtaking world with a fusion of vibrant colors and moving musical undertones to set the stage for the deeply personal journey that awaits within.

  1. waiiiit wait wait… wait… according to almost every indie dev, the Switch is by the far the easiest to develop for… take that into consideration and you get a less stressful work load than developing on any other console… so why the hell is it more expensive??? better have some features in it that the other platforms don’t xD

    1. I don’t know if $39.99 is insanely cheap, I haven’t seen the game, so it may be a decent deal. That’s the price of a very solid Indie game.
Like, Recore on Xbox1, made by the developers of Metroid Prime, cost $39.99. It’s a really fun game. Maybe not quite a $60 game, but priced very, very fair at $39.99.

You can feel the Metroid prime vibes, and I really enjoy playing it. It’s also “play anywhere” so I can play it on my laptop as well without paying extra.

So, Rime may not be a steal, but if it’s a really great game, then $39.99 is fair. And if switch owners want games, it’s also a good way to encourage it. :) If I owned a Nintendo switch, I’d pay the extra $10. I did the same thing on WiiU.

      1. It does seem really cheaply-made, and the world really empty. I think you can do an empty world but it must look very cool. And this is not. Ico got more action, more beauty and more tricks.
        Not buying.

      1. that is 3ds game price territory though that extra $10 better have something that is worth it like nintendo exclusives or at least amiibo functionality, take botw, it is worth $60 because it is expansive and has a lot to do in it and it also has amiibo support though you can only use them once per day and yes having amiibos is worth it for botw, especially zelda amiibos.

    2. $50 for an indie game we don’t even know the length of (or rather, we know next to nothing about, considering there has been barely any substantial information about it) is insanely cheap? Interesting evaluation, haha.

  2. If the price hike is because of the difference between the cost of cartridge and optical media then they should do the right thing and keep the digital game price consistent with other platforms…

      1. Yeah, they said it’s because of the “portability” of the console. Lame. It’s definitely the higher cost of manufacturing carts. If the digital version is the same price though… I’ll wait for a price drop or sale.

  3. If it runs well I’ll get it on switch. If it’s a crappy port then no can do. I’ll buy it on Amazon for the prime discount if possible cus they don’t have the listing for switch at all

    1. Puyo Puyo Tetris is the same price digitally. Switch is getting a physical version that comes with two keychains. That is $10 more.

      1. I know my negativity makes it really hard to tell when I’m being sarcastic, but in this instance, I definitely was not being serious.

          1. Thanks for saying so. :)
But I know The Man from Brisk, and he’s a good guy. I’m not judging him because he mistranslated a bit of my sarcasm. Still, Thanks for your support.

      1. I’m not really sure what Microsoft is going to do. They don’t really have much to offer at the moment to pull people their way.

I love the convenience of the console. it connects to all my tech, but not everyone cares about that. It’s a great machine, but when it comes to purely games, I don’t think they have any leverage. I’ve said it before, but if Nintendo had come out with a beefy console this gen instead of the switch, I think Microsoft would have been in serious trouble.

  4. Lol. This is why I hate almost all indie devs. They charge way too much. This game doesn’t look like its worth $9.99. Go watch a gameplay video, it’s junk.

      1. ALL “DLC” (Campaigns) of Shovel Knight are still free if you either own A. The original game. (Which will be updated to..) B. Treasure Trove.

Only change is they increased the price of the base game because it’s fair to ask more if you get four times the game you original got (after King’s Knight campaign releases) and they will release all campaigns as separate games.

  5. If you’d like to know why, NWR’s Neal Ronaghan presents a likely cause: When a Nindie game also gets a physical release, the cost goes up digitally.

3DS didn’t really have this problem since the cost to produce those game cards was lower by then. This price disparity will disappear once Switch game cards are cheaper to produce.

  6. Fuck them! If they think they can charge extra just because you can play the game both as a home console and a handheld game, then they don’t get a penny from me!

  7. If it reviews well, I’m willing to pay more for physical. I’d love to get Fast RMX physical for $40.

  8. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

I was strongly thinking about getting this on Switch but now? Fuck that shit! PS4 it is… if I don’t forget about the game entirely by then because I’m too busy with Zelda: BotW, Horizon: Zero Dawn, or Nier: Automata… or the dozens of other games I got on PS4 which is only gonna increase since KH1.5 & 2.5 HD Remasters are coming to PS4 at the end of this month! No telling what’s coming in April that I’m unaware of. I’m definitely getting Prey when that hits PS4 so that’s another! D: While my backlog of games on my PS4 & 3DS are increasing, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’d be shit out of luck if I didn’t get a PS4 at the end of 2015 when I fully gave up on Wii U or I’d be bored as fuck with only the internet and movies & television shows to keep me entertained.
