There’s A Small Issue With Current Firmware On Switch Causing Slight Drain On GPU Resources

A small but important detail was hidden away on Digital Foundry’s FAST RMX article that suggests that there’s currently a small issue with the current Nintendo Switch firmware. The site reports that it’s causing a slight drain on GPU resources. However it will be fixed and it will ultimately improve system performance.

“From what we understand, there is a small issue with the current firmware on Switch which causes a slight drain on GPU resources – once corrected, we’re told that Fast RMX should sustain a full 1080p in docked mode.”

– Digital Foundry

“That’s all the info I received on the matter. Sounds like it’s a minor thing but interferes slightly with the adaptive resolution feature. I wouldn’t expect huge performance gains in games like Zelda or anything.”

  1. Hmm, maybe this is what causes the small framerate problems in Zelda?
It was always a bit strange seeing exactly at which seemingly random places it happens, so it always felt like an error of some kind.

  2. Extra context: The game runs at a consistent 60fps. The current issue is the occassional resolution drop to 900p.
