Nintendo Reveals How Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Performs On Nintendo Switch

With the hype of the launch of the Nintendo Switch settling, all eyes are on the Big N and what titles they push out to consumers from now on. In just a few more weeks Nintendo’s next big title Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is released on the Switch and details about how it performs on Nintendo Switch have emerged thanks to website Techno Buffalo. They asked and Nintendo told:

When docked, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will run at 60fps in 1080p. It will hold that resolution when docked no matter what. When split-screen with two players, the game will maintain that 60fps in 1080p performance; but, it will drop to 30fps in 1080p when three or four players come in for split-screen local.

So there you have it. Following on from the Wii U Mario Kart 8 which ran at the same FPS but at a lower resolution it would seem that the Switch version performs well.

  1. They should release the whole wiiU catalogue for Switch and 3DS and really say “fuck you” to the wiiU owners who remember the Nintendo that had backwards compatibility and free online play.

          1. You dont have to call the guy an idiot. He has a valid point even if he is salty as fuck about it. It is a bummer that people who bought the wii u version and dlc (myseld included) have to buy the game over again, but at least all the dlc from the wii u version comes pre baked into this version. And at least you can take this on the go with you, and play anywhere with anyone.

          2. No Battle Mode – incomplete
            No King Boo – incomplete
No two item holding – incomplete
            No 1080p 60fps – incomplete

anyhow took advantage of ebgames trade in and got MarioKart Deluxe just by trading in Pokemon OR and Pokemon Y. *sigh*

            1. Just proving you are more salty about MK8D, Battle Mode was not incomplete rather they wanted to try something new with tracks instead of arenas, No King Boo does not make it incomplete as he was never intended for the launch roster I could say the same for Link at launch calling it incomplete. Once again two item holding is something that they haven’t used since Double Dash and find one person expecting the Wii U version at launch to have double items. No 1080p and 60fps is because the Wii U could not handle it compared to the Switch while the Switch is basically a overclocked Wii U but still is stronger in some aspects. Going back and giving a lower review to an older game compared to the newer one is like me going back and giving Double Dash a 2/10 because compared to Mario Kart 8 it is “incomplete” Stop ya bitching and just pay for a portable version this obviously is your first port of a game since you are making dumb complaints of it and besides it is getting more content like the Splatoon and your now “complete” battle mode.

              1. They gimped the battle mode for the WiiU because they knew they needed something to sell the Switch (which had already gone into production). Same reason they pushed the launch of BotW. Double Dash and MarioKart 8 are two completely different games so that comparison doesn’t really work here. I just hope Nintendo will pull themselves out of their own asses and give wiiU owners a break for once.

              2. Splatoon 2 is a new game, not a port. It’s not just the issue of ports, I don’t mind Nintendo porting Yoshi’s Woolly World, Smash or MarioMaker to 3DS. what i mind is them cutting the lifespan of an overpriced console and rewarding everyone who didn’t support them with DLC and bonuses for the same price wiiU owners paid.

                1. Alright first of all, where did you get the information that the Switch started development in 2014? Because for as I know it was getting minor talk in late 2015, so let us say Mario Kart 8 Deluxe started development when 8 for the Wii U was being made, so that is about an extra 3 years of development would it not be a launch title if so? I mean Nintendo could have really expanded the Switch Launch with a Mario Kart game that has been in development for over half a decade. Yes there are 1080p 60fps games on the Wii U but not all of them can never drop frames, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe even in single player mode can drop frames, and what I meant by Splatoon was not Splatoon 2 but the added Splatoon content to the game.

        1. I’m saying people who didn’t buy a Wii U at all. Maybe they didn’t like it or even know it was a new console. The Switch is a much more interesting and easy to understand concept.

        2. Since so many people skipped the Wii U, there are a lot of potential customers out there who would love to play the games from the Wii U library, and I dont fault Nintendo for bringing them back. They would be stupid not to. Its free $$$

        1. They’re giving people who didn’t buy a Wii U another reason besides Zelda to get a Switch. Very few people actually bought one. It also helps bring Mario Kart, a big seller, ASAP. If recent trends are anything to go by past gen ports are pretty common on all systems. Was Nintendo punishing GameCube owners when remakes came to the Wii and Wii U?

The Wii U had some great games who’s sales were dragged down with the hardware itself. It only makes sense to give these games a second life on a console that could end up being way more popular.

  2. I just hate the fact that this game will retail for $60. The thought of paying that much for the same game I already have is a hard pill to swallow. Even WITH all the DLC included. If it wasn’t for having truck problems right now, it wouldn’t be as big of deal.

    1. It’s not a problem for me but I can see why for some. It should’ve been maybe $49.99 at the most but I’m getting it regardless

    2. Really though, why would the value of an upgraded game be lessened becausr it is released on a different platform? Just because it is an older game ir that the experience is nearly the same? Because it is an upgraded version with all the extras from the Wii U game DLC and additional features, 60 seems more than worth it on Switch. Couple that with portable gameplay and the other options that alter the experience beyond the wii u version, then you can price it any different than the premiere AAA title it is.

Not saying to buy it but it is surely worth it. And for the large numbers of potential buyers who never got a Wii U, they ate getting something great.

  3. I’d love to know how much of those ports performance falls into account to the porting process from WiiU/PPC architecture and if this could mean that future games would perform way better. Ports coming from PPC systems often performed insanely bad. Still I don’t know if this would be the same with an ARM processor. Still while it feels a bit like while FullHD/60fps is a very nice achievement, a dedicated, taloired Mario Kart game could be delivering way more stuff at these fps just like a successor to Zelda that would be made for the Switch from ground up could look way more detailed and (even more) beautiful.

But its just a fair guess, no clue if its really that simple.
