SuperData: Nintendo Switch Has Sold 1.5 Million Units Worldwide

Sales tracking firm SuperData has revealed that Nintendo has shifted 1.5 million Switch units. The site has used data provided by GFK and Famitsu to obtain the number. The figure is for first week sales so no doubt these will have climbed since then. Nintendo has always aimed to sell 2 million by the end of March so it looks like they’re on the way to hitting that target. SuperData has also revealed that 89% of Switch owners have bought The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Hopefully Nintendo will provided updated sales figures soon.

      1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

Yeah. We should never underestimate how stupid some, if not half, of humanity can really be.

      1. Snipperclips is not a game ppl buy a Switch for. It might be the better game than 1-2-Switch, but the audiences who wouldn’t buy Zelda would rather buy promoted stuff like 1-2-Switch and Just Dance. Snipperclips is still considered being a kinda smaller release.

        1. As someone who doesn’t like the Switch both in concept and execution and bought BotW for the Wii U, Snipperclips is the only exclusive game for the Switch that I really want to play. Don’t get me wrong, I love Bomberman games, but Snipperclips looks like so much fun.

    1. Exactly! When I got my Wii U just after Christmas 2012, Wii U had sold 3 million units I believe and that was with a staggered launch. So lets see how Switch does in a month’s time.

    2. Well the Switch has got heavy hitters coming like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Super Mario Odyssey. A fully featured portable version of FIFA on the Switch will be a huge draw for European gamers as so would a portable version of Skyrim if marketed right. I’ll say if the Switch sells 8-10 million units for the entire year, I honestly think, GTA V or a GTA HD collection could definitely come to the Switch and trust me, once GTA comes to the system the other 3rd party titles will follow

  1. Hopefully it can keep up the pace in about 3 months time and not just have only the early sales be great but rather it’s entire life span be great instead.

  3. I’d like to know where the got their numbers from for the system and Zelda. Only numbers I found were down below

    Zelda BotW: 186,379 (Japan)
    Switch: 313,700 (Japan)

    Switch: 80,000 (UK)

    At all.

  4. By comparison, the Wii U sold 400,000 in the US, 40,000 in the UK and 330,000 in Japan, totaling 770,000, couldn’t find anything for the rest of Europe and the Rest of the World. So it has sold at least a 1/3rd more than Wii U at Launch when estimating the Rest of the World sales for the Wii U added on to the 770,000. That’s really good, considering it isn’t even close to the 2017 Holiday Season yet.

  6. And the article linked to this artlcie makes no sense. If they say 500,000 switch systems were sold in the USA, why does Reggie say the switch in the USA sold more than the Wii? When every country shows you the numbers but Reggie and the united States doesn’t, that’s when you ask if Nintendo is lying? I honestly don’t think they cracked 300,000 in the USA.

      1. That doesn’t make sense because the article says it sold 500,000, but how would they know that if results or only monthly? Unless the numbers are made up. Not saying they are but not saying they aren’t either. I’m just saying, Reggie is talking all this stuff but numbers are truth and the evidence. And as they say, without proof, nothing matters and evidence is everything. Still, Japan and UK didn’t sell that much on BotW. So how did it sell that many copies? Again, the numbers sold sound off and weird.

        1. dude just use google. If all reports are accurate they outsold the Wii U opening week. This is from Cnet:

Nintendo sold 1.2 million hardware units in the US over the past week, its new Wii U console leading with 400,000 units sold, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed today in an interview with CNET.

    1. Under 300,000? As far as I know the Switch is sold out, or very close to being, in the U.S. If the Switch only sold 300,000 in the U.S. it’s because that was the allotment.

      1. Then why did Reggie say it sold more than the Wii (not the Wii U) in 2 days? Wii did 600,000 in 8 days, but Switch sold more than 600,000 and me and you both are saying 300,000? Remember, Nintendo only shipped 2million worldwide, and that would mean Nintendo sold about a million or so. The system is basically sold out everywhere, so Nintendo either sold 1 million in the states, or they lied about what stock was being sold at launch world wide and shipped less than what they told people to build hype. And the bigger question is this: if the switch did sell 1 million or even less or more than the Wii, why wouldn’t he just where the percentage of Switch’s sold are? You show every other number in the world but the USA? Sounds off, friend.

        1. What?? I never said I think it sold 300,000. I said that IF they only sold 300,000 then it must be because they only shipped 300,000. I think Reggie was being honest. You have to wait until Nintendo’s end of year earnings report for some actual numbers.

Also, I don’t believe Nintendo ever said anything about how many units they shipped worldwide. They said that they “expected to sell” 2 million units in March.

      2. And not to mention, the US is the biggest factor for Nintendo next to Japan. The fact that they are telling numbers is just saying something different. I’m waiting and seeing, but I don’t believe they sold pass the Wii unless they shipped more or unshipped and that’s why they sit at 500,000. But Reggie said they sold more than Wii but this article says 500,000. Again, Wii is at 600,000 in 8 days. So who’s lying?

        1. Reggie said the first 3 day sales of the Switch surpassed the first 3 days of the Wii. You can’t compare the first 8 days of the systems. Reggie never said anything about that.

            1. You must be reading the article wrong. This is the tweet from the article you just linked.

“Fri-Sat sales for Nintendo Switch exceeded first 2-day sales in Americas for any system in Nintendo history. Next biggest was Wii.”

This is the quote directly from Reggie from a different article.

“For the first two days, Nintendo Switch outsold the Wii, it outsold Nintendo DS, it outsold Nintendo 3DS, it outsold Nintendo 64 — it outsold every system Nintendo of America has launched in the Americas, and I’m talking specifically for the U.S,” Fils-Aimé says. “When I say it is our best launch ever, it is truly our best launch ever, looking at the first two days.”

              1. I’m going by what the article says and what Reggie says. It’s a straight contradiction.

Reggie said it sold more than Wii sold in it’s 6 days at launch: 600,000

This article says 1.5 million world wide. It also says 500,000 for USA. That’s not more than 600,000. So either Nintendo sold more than 600,000 or lied about selling 1.5 million and selling more than Wii. Whatever it is, Nintendo is holding off on the numbers for a reason. And to be frank, the 500,000 makes lesser sense because this is going off inventory stock and assumptions that the system is sold out when the system could have been unsold elsewhere. To many variables: the numbers are needed. Period.

  9. This is truly an excellent start from Nintendo. The Switch sells more than the Wii U at opening launch! 1.5 million worldwide… while half a million units were sold here in the United States! We’ll be looking forward to the next two million sold late this month/early April.
