Reggie Fils-Aime recently appeared on CBS This Morning to talk about the new Nintendo Switch console. During a brief discussion between the Nintendo of America president and co-anchor Gayle King, Fils-Aime was asked to share whether he thinks Link from The Legend of Zelda series is “hot.” He gave an affirmative answer and went on to mention how Nintendo games tend to cater to girls.
King: “Do you find that more girls are playing? And I ask this question because I’ve heard from very reliable sources about Link – the character Link – that Link is hot… Is Link hot to you?”
Fils-Aime: “Link is hot. I gotta say Link is hot. But, yeah, more girls are playing video games and we pride ourselves that we’ve been able to lead that charge – with the Wii, with the DS.”

Actually, adult link is really a teen. Young link I believe is 9 (might be 10.) And pulling the master sword only moves him 7 years in the future. So even if Young link is 10, that would only make adult link a 17 year old.

I think they were going by the fact the Hero of Time first started his journey at a young age. Hence why WW Link was the same age as the hero on his birthday. Just a guess because WW Link is definitely not 16 or 17. Unless he’s one short as teenager. xD

Yes. It’s a drink at the bar in Gerudo Town. Story wise, not very far. Shrine wise, 99 shrines. Whether that number I see during the loading screen represents the number found & activated or whether it represents the number I’ve actually cleared, no bloody clue. Korok Seed wise, I’m nearly done with the integral part of collecting those fuckers as I got one last sword slot left to unlock that way as the Master Sword unlocks a slot when you attain it. Armor wise, I got plenty of pieces maxed out. Not sure of the actual count, though.
The number on the screen is shrines cleared, not activated, if I remember correctly. I have 100 seeds (haven’t gone hunting for them, just grabbed ones that were obvious along my journey). Armor I only have like ten sets? And very few maxed out. I hate how the rupees are so hard to come by. They went from one extreme to the other. Balance the damn rupees! And 10,000 for that one fairy? What the everliving fuck is that about? I wanted to cook that bitch in a pot with some raw meat and lynel hoof. Making money is hard as hell and I have to shell out 10,000 for her (not to mention the other three). The map is huge, so naturally the game is going to take a long to to complete, but a lot of the replay value feels forced to me. With such a huge game and world, they could have given us more adventure tasks rather than “go get me a picture” or “collect x number of fruits for me” or other mundane tasks. The dungeons I felt were very underwhelming and there are only four. The bosses were eh. No cool items like hookshot or boomerang (not the weapon one they have in this game). The shrines for the most part were a lot of fun. But I’d rather they get rid of some of the shrines and instead make bigger/more complex dungeons. And more of a monster variety would be great. Having four or five different colors of the same monster doesn’t count. Man, as much as I love this game, I’ve really wanted to vent some of my frustrations about it. It’s brilliant, don’t get me wrong. But there’s thing I feel could have been improved.
I was also let down by the total lack of variety in monsters. And they didn’t bring back the Like Likes again!? Honestly, I did not like the Moblin’s redesign in this game, either. The Bokoblins looked roughly unchanged from Skyward Sword yet they did this major overhaul on the Moblins? Why!?! I try to avoid wasting my weapons on those damn wizzrobes in this game since you only get a weapon from them. I’d much prefer my swords. Speaking of the boomerang, they should have put the boomerang, torch, axe, & sledgehammer into a different category from the weapons. I feel like I’m wasting my weapon slots by carrying those. As for the boomerang, it should have been treated as something to gather shit you don’t want to walk to like in past games. On second though, the boomerang, torch, axe, & sledgehammer should have been magical runes in the Sheikah Slate! As for hookshots, I’m fine without that since I honestly feel it’d just mess up the purpose of climbing. That & I got enough stamina to help me climb all the way to the top when I use the climber gear, anyway. There should have been a second bonus unlocked when you do max out an entire set’s level/defense. For the climber gear, the ability to climb without rain fucking you over would have been very appreciated! Speaking of rain, it pisses me off but I understand why it’s an issue. You can’t climb rocks in real life if they are wet, after all. But still, a second bonus in the climber gear to get rid of that issue would have been nice. The sand (allows you to walk at a normal pace in the desert) & snow (allows you to walk at a normal pace in snowy areas) boots (just in case you didn’t get those armor pieces) should have had their ability attached to the male Gerudo leggings & Rito leggings respectively since you only need two pieces of that armor to get rid of the heat & cold damage, anyway. I’m very disappointed there wasn’t some awesome gold royal armor for Link to wear in that game. The only real armor we get in the game is that soldier gear & it honestly sucks ass design wise. I’m also disappointed there wasn’t a cape to wear. (The hooded one from the Hylian set doesn’t count, damn it!) If they did have a cape in the game, they should have made it to where it would cause the weapon & bow to move to Link’s hips. As for the shield, it would get hidden underneath the cape. Honestly, the Paraglider should have gotten replaced at a later point with a snazzy newly designed Roc’s Cape that allows you to glide faster & use less stamina.
Like Like, Redead, Stalfos (stal bokoblins and all them don’t count), and a few others are missed. I like the new Moblins, except for the fact that they are Moblins. They should be a new character and put the old Moblins in. Wizzrobes were annoying at first, then they just became a joke. And their weapon drops are so weak. Excellent idea making the boomerang a rune. I was thinking of how they could do it, and your idea is great. And yes, they should have separate slots for tools. I don’t carry around a Korok leaf because it’s worthless aside from like one or two things. So I’m not using a slot for it.I tried one on a raft one time, and said nope. This is horrendous. I carry a torch, but now that I think about it, I already did all the shrines, so I don’t need it anymore. Guess I’ll ditch it. Course, I don’t really have as much of a need for weapon slots since I’m done with everything anyways. I see what they were trying to do with the rain, but when I’m halfway up a giant mountain and it starts raining, that is so aggravating. I just wasted like two minutes of climbing and now I have to wait for it to stop raining (or die if my stamina was low and I fall in water). If they added the bonus for climbing gear like you mentioned, that would give me incentive to upgrade the climbing gear, which I barely did. I do have the snow and sand boots. Half the time I forget to even use them haha. A cape would be pretty sweet. I like the idea of an updated Roc’s Cape. Is the soldier armor any good defense-wise? I have been on the fence about buying it (once again, the severe lack of rupees in this game. Can’t even purchase something so little because I’m afraid I’ll need the money for better things later).
At max, the soldier’s gear goes up to 28 for each piece so a total max of 84 defense with all three equipped. Sadly, they don’t get a 2 star set bonus since they didn’t have a set bonus to begin with at level 1. :/ That & the only thing that changes color is the cloth parts. The armor itself doesn’t change color. Unless you use black dye, that is, then the armor turns into a darker shade. Sadly, to fully max that set out, you’ll need 4 Lynel pieces in total, 2 for each Lynel part, so you are looking at 12 Lynel pieces. So have fun with that if you decide to go after that set.
But if you like looks & good defense, I suggest just sticking with the Champion’s Tunic, Amber Earrings or Diamond Circlet, & dying the Hylian Leggings to a color you like. I intend to use Diamond Circlet, Champion’s Tunic, & purple Hylian Leggings as my main armor set up. Unless I end up liking the Zora armor leggings, when I get them, then I’ll dye those purple instead. I’d like to use the soldier or ancient leggings but they are too bulky & don’t look very good with the Champion’s Tunic. Hopefully when I get the Hero’s tunic, which will sadly be at the ass end of the game since it appears the last 4 shrines will be locked behind clearing the Divine Beasts (God damn that! I was wanting to clear all 120 dungeons & pull the Master Sword out wearing the hero of the wild’s tunic before doing those bastards!) I’ll like that armor set enough to use it in my fight with true ending Ganon; I’ve already beaten him on my main save file before clearing the divine beasts & recovering all of my memories with Zelda. *cough* Err, I mean Link’s memories with Zelda. xD (See, Nintendo!? Not everyone needs a faceless, nameless avatar to get behind a fucking video game character & feel like they are that character!)
Damn. That’s a lot of Lynel killing to upgrade the soldier gear. I don’t know if I want to waste my time with that. Some of the armor not having upgrades is weird. Not only do they not get a set bonus, but you can’t even upgrade them? What’s the point then haha? I have a diamond circlet and either ruby or sapphire, I think sapphire. I have the Champion’s Tunic, but not sure if I’ve upgraded it. Probably not haha. I like that it shows the enemy health bars, although I wish you could always see them. I get why they put the Wild Tunic or whatever it’s called as a reward for doing all 120 shrines, because they wanted to give us something cool for doing it. But I’m with you. I wanted to wear that stuff from very early in, not late in the game. They could have made the reward like an unbreakable Fierce Deity sword or something. Ah, so you beat Ganon. What’d you think of the battles? I thought it was easy, followed by pathetically easy.
If Aonuma wasn’t so focused on Witcher 3 being a violent video game, he would have seen the awesome idea with New Game Plus. I’m so fucking sick of not having that as a feature in fucking Zelda games! Especially if customization becomes a huge thing for future Zelda games! Hell! They had guys from Monolith Soft, who made Xenoblade, in the development team! Why the fuck didn’t Aonuma ask them about New Game Plus!? Sure Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii & 3DS’s New Game Plus wasn’t that good since levels would carry over thus making the new game plus more like a speedrun than anything else but BotW didn’t have a fucking level system. Ugh! Yeah. My honeymoon phase with BotW definitely ended awhile ago & I haven’t even finished the fucking story yet!
Once you get parrying beam attacks from Calamity Ganon down which is similar to the Guardians beam attack, yeah. He’s fucking easy as hell. Even before I got that down packed, I still easily beat him awhile back when I was experimenting & went after him earlier in the game before I got my armor defense to a good margin but didn’t keep that save file as I had done something I didn’t want to do yet so went back to my manual save before I did that something. Beast Ganon was fun to fight but also way too easy. It was basically a cinematic battle that you can’t lose unless you actually let yourself die. Resident Evil 7 biohazard sadly did something similar with it’s final boss. :/ I like fun, cinematic battles, I really do, but not when the battle before it was just as fucking easy. The least they could have done was have a bunch of guardians & Lynels in the fight with Beast Ganon to protect the bastard. Some things never change with Ganon & he was as egotistical as ever without having any thing to assist him in his final fight with Link. Did this motherfucker not learn anything over the past, what I’m assuming, 15,000+ years of fighting the Hero of Hyrule!? I’ve heard a ton of people were let down by the Ganon fights. It was the fucking Twilight Princess fight with Ganondorf all the fuck over again! It makes me love the fight with Ganondorf in Wind Waker all the more!
A new game plus would be great. I hate beating a game and then get no recognition aside from a star next to my name. I don’t habe a PS4 and don’t really care to get any new consoles, so I won’t be able to play or comment on Witcher 3. I hear it’s amazing though. I don’t know why they thought Beast Ganon’s fight was a good idea. I mean, like you said, you would have let yourself die to lose. I played him the first time and was like “aww yeah. Now the real fight begins.” I was sorely mistaken. And the story. Wow was it weak. I was so mad at that. That honeymoon phase was a doozy. Once it wore off, so did the blinders.
