The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nintendo has decided to double the amount of Nintendo Switch units it produces due to strong demand for the system. Nintendo is aiming to produce 16 million Switch consoles in the financial year which starts this April. This means that Nintendo expects the console to easily outsell the Wii U which only managed to sell around 13.5 million units.

It’s a Nintendo handheld device. If MH5 and a new Pokémon game come out for the Switch it won’t sell any less than 50 million units.
I’d say it will sell 30 million. To reach 50m, they’d have to also do a nice little price cut for the Switch. Remember the 3DS? It didn’t really get it’s groove til after the price cut. Portability can only do so much & it needs to also have affordability to truly hit it’s stride.

If they release proper Pokemon games on Switch, lifetime sales will top 60mil easily.
Yup all they need is a heavy hitter like the next pokemon mainline game also monster hunter too hopefully they have plans for this for next year maybe
That’s aiming for 16-18 million units for the next 14 months more or so… Maybe Mr. Kimishima wasn’t messing around when he said that they expect the same sale numbers as the Wii… Fingers crossed. This are great news.

Excellent news. I’m guessing Nintendo is seeing much higher initial sales numbers than they expected. Chances are they already hit the 2 million units they expected to sell in March.
They sold 2 million in preorders and 2 million more in first 48 hours. 1.6 million preorders in less than 24 hours, Japan was the holdout for several weeks, but still did 2 million in January preorders, even though the last 400 of it took awhile. So 4 million as of March 5 in both shipment & sells (sold out).
Too bad they aren’t doubling NES Classic Mini production. Seriously, I can’t believe I still can’t find them in stores. It’s almost as if Nintendo WANTS people to buy them from scalpers.
They are probably working on a way to avoid getting hacked again.

They have a hard time getting the parts needed to make Nintendo Mini, but they are making more.
Switch will never hit the same numbers as Wii. Wii was n Oprah and Ellen show because if Wii fit. That’s not happening with the Switch.
And if you assume based upon nothing (and ignoring history) that the only way for the Switch to hit those numbers are to get on daytime television with a fitness trend, that would be an excellent point.
Since that’s a ridiculous premise to start with though, Nintendo dodges that problem.
The game “1 2 Switch” will end up on Ellen & also late night talk shows too.
Oh please it sold more than a wii atlaunch of course it will pass over the wii amount wii audience was mostly casual but with switch audience its to every one

I think they were shipping 8 million consoles because they probably planned on selling 5-6 million in the first year. Noe they believe they will sell 10 million in the first year? Damn that’s pretty good. They must have some pretty solid evidence to back this up, they wouldn’t risk over producing expensive hardware.
Double production speed? Let’s hope this doesn’t mean more switch problems.
