IGN Lists ‘100 Small Things That Will Blow Your Mind’ In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

While Nintendo proudly shows off the success of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild by telling the public about all the perfect scores it’s been receiving, IGN have taken it upon themselves to collate a list of 100 things that will ‘blow your mind’. The comprehensive list may contain some spoilers (I didn’t look through the whole list!) but it’s worth a glance just to see how much thought went into the game. There are some handy tricks in there that you may not of thought about or come across. Thanks to NeoGaf member Jmizzal, below is a small taster with the other 90 points listed over at the IGN page here.

(Potential spoilers afoot)

1) If you throw a rusty weapon at some Octoroks, they will suck it up and spit back out a cleaned, new weapon.

2) You can survive in cold environments without elixirs or warm clothes just by equipping a Fire Rod or a torch.

3) The temperature in the desert is lower in the shade than it is in the sun.

4) Killing animals in very hot or very cold climates will give you meat that’s already cooked or chilled instead of raw meat.

5) If you use boulders, Cryonis, or other tricks to lift or dislodge an old rusted guardian you’ll find more ancient materials underneath it.

6) If you befriend dogs at stables they’ll sometimes lead you to buried treasure chests.

7) If you feed your horse an Endura Carrot it will have more dash charges when you mount it.

8) You can ride a bear. And a moose. And a deer.

9) You can (very briefly) mount and ride a Lynel. They don’t like it very much.

10) You can ride an enemy’s skeletal undead horse.

  1. Just in those ten tips I already see way too much spoilers lol but I probly would not have thought of them otherwise so I don’t know if they can be called that haha I did ride the skeleton horse tho and was waiting to see if it disappeared in the sun but that was taking too long so I left it lol

    1. yeah i am staying far, far away from that list.

      i beat the game and did all 4 divine beasts and some shrines & sidequests, but i did that just to finish the main storyline– in reality i’ve only seen a tiny fraction of what’s really in this game.

      1. Yea I’m planning to finish it by early April with about 70 or 80 hours in. And then when the hard mode and extra story come out dive into it again lol I guarantee with 80 hours there’s still gna be lots to do so I’ll leave that for later

    1. Yea I feel like most of the people that are hating on the game about it not doing “anything special” haven’t really taken the time to actually look at what’s possible in the world. They only see things in black and white

      1. I even saw many people complaining about the things that are simply false, which proves that they didn’t even play it, not even watched the gameplay :D But hey, people are stupid.

      1. [SPOILERS]
        Maybe it’s childish to not let people have a own opinion? I mean this game is great and I like it a lot, especially all the little things in it, like when you drop food in the snow it freezes, etc. But there are a few minor things that bother me though. So in my opinion it’s not worth all the perfect scores, it’s like some reviewers are just currying the die hard Zelda fans. But a 9,5 out of 10 would still be great.

        – For starters, all the stuff they teach you on on the Great Plateau, like chop down a tree to cross a cliff or use scraps to build a bridge over a tar pit. After 3 divine beast I didn’t had to use any of these gameplay mechanics in the open world yet, because you can reach every spot by climbing or para gliding.

        – I believe there are 16 different enemies, which come in different color variations. About 20 wildlife creatures which also come in diferent color variations. It’s sounds like a lot, but it doesn’t feel that way in such a huge world. Like the dragons, they all look the same and always stay in the same area, why don’t they go attack a village or something, it would bring so much more to the game if it had live events like that. And for me this is a reason why it doesn’t deserve that perfect score.
        Same goes for the NPC’s, feels like you always run into the same person over and over again and they barely do something + all the “background” NPC’s have the same tone in their voice. And I’m so tired of the monk’s at the end of each shrine, same model and animation again and again and again… well not that they do much, but the people who played it know what i’m talking about.

        – I did like the puzzle like bosses of the previous Zelda games better. And you should expect that those Devine Beasts are heavily guarded with enemies and would take you hours to complete. But in reality, there nothing to it really, just some common sense.

        – Brittle weapons bother me so much and you can’t repair them. How can it be that you can defeat one of Ganon’s forms with only 1 weapon, but have to sacrifice half or your complete arsenal on a guardian or a lynel? So my conclusion is that these are stronger than Ganon?

        – The dodging does’t feel as intuitive like it does in other Zelda games.

        – Horses act weird, I mean not in the “that’s how horses react in real life man” weird, just weird. Like they want you to run off a cliff or against a mountain. One time they jump over boulders without effort, the other time they refuse to jump over a low flat rock.

        – Sometimes you’re overwhelmed by all the wonderfull music and nature sound effects, other times it’s stock-still.

        – This game needs controller remapping, I just hate how the shoulder buttons are mapped.

        – Brittle weapons bother me so much. How can it be that you can defeat one of Ganon’s forms with only 1 weapon, but have to sacrifice half or your complete arsenal on a guardian or a lynel? So my conclusion is that these are stronger than Ganon?

        I even must admit that I got really bored at some parts during the game. The side quests aren’t the most creative ones in gaming history, same old fetch this and bring it to me. Talking about fetching, why can’t you pet dogs or make them a companion that follows you around during your adventure?

        I believe the game only lives the hype and I’m sure the die hard fans are thrilled about this game. Because it is well build and it does look beautiful and all, but come on, it’s not perfect and quite frankly, I expected a little more. Why try to make this game perfect with all these details that they’ve stuffed in it, when it laks some other small things which could have really made it perfect. Like events, ok there are some scripted changes during boss battles, but that’s not what I’m talking about really.

        I’m probably forgetting some stuff that bothered me so far.
        Before you shoot me, remember that I like the game a lot, I’m still having fun with it and it’s probably the best game I’ve played in the last couple of years. I just don’t think it’s as perfect as they say it is.
        I did love Ocarina of Time on the N64, to bad this game doesn’t feel like that one at all, I even dare to say that it feels less “Zelda”. So for me personally, I think Ocarina of Time is still number one.

        1. There are opinions, and there are novels. You just wrote a novel. No one is taking the time to read that. However I’ll just say I’ve lodged a stupid amount of hours on this game and have played just about every major Zelda game ever and this game is nothing less than a masterpiece. Took aspects of Skyrim, Monster Hunter, etc and made it their own. Even when Nintendo gives fans what they want, people still aren’t pleased, just my opinion though.

          1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

            Can you tell me what you are smoking? I want to know so I can smoke it, too, because it’d be nice to fall back into the honeymoon phase & be able to ignore the glaring flaws with this game so I can also pretend it’s a masterpiece. Like shitty durability & no repair ability (like Witcher 3 had to go with durability which isn’t as shitty as BotW’s.) Masterpieces are flawless things & this game isn’t flawless. But hey! This is just my opinion. I hope I didn’t give you a novel to read here, lazy reader.

          2. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

            Or maybe you just didn’t want to read his “novel” out of fear it might make you realize the game’s flaws, too. *shrug* Whatever.

            1. who hurt you? you’re probably a lot of fun at parties. look at the perfect reviews on countless websites, think i’ll consider your half ass review? you haven’t even touched the game, who are you kidding?

              1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

                xD I’ve spent the last month playing Breath of the Wild. Got 99 shrines, over at least 15-20 pieces of armor maxed, over 450 Korok Seeds, the white horse, giant horse, Epona, all of the time & twilight armor, my house I spent 3k on in Hateno, all of the compendium filled out except for the Ganon incarnations, maxed out my shield & bow inventory, got one more sword slot to unlock which doesn’t count the one the Master Sword unlocks, maxed out my stamina gauge, over 50k rupees, all of the map is revealed, got all of my runes powered up, got all of the memories of Link & Zelda together and can easily progress the story & beat the Divine Beasts if I want to. I’ve even already beaten Calamity Ganon and Beast Ganon before getting every memory of Zelda & free every divine beast. *looks at the other comment* PlayStation troll? I’ve been called a PlayStation fanboy before so this isn’t new to me. *shrug* Oh well. Believe whatever you want. I got more than enough awesome people on MyNintendoNews that know who & what I really am. One little fanboy mad I dared to challenge his opinion with a different one isn’t gonna change that. In fact, it shows how little confidence you have in your own opinions about BotW if you have to pretend I haven’t played the game so you can feel good about ignoring mine while also using other people’s opinions that you agree with to bolster your own. Are you that much of a sheep that you need other like minded people to make you feel good about your own opinions while ignoring those with a different one? That’s fucking pathetic, really, if that’s the case. Be more confident in your convictions, bub, & don’t rely on others to bolster your own! Be independent!

                  1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Please, Nintendo! Blow me off of the fence at E3 onto your side so I can say the same for Switch, too!}

                    I won’t lie. You did. But then I realized some time after that you were just being a troll, so I quickly got over it. The short responses make it so obvious.

                    1. I’m not giving you the satisfaction of a one hour response like you did (lame). Don’t even turn this on me that I’m the troll, look at your fkn display name… just stfu lmao

                        If you read past the PlayStation 4 sentence in my name, you’d notice I want Nintendo to be successful. Not something a PlayStation troll would want to happen. Nor would they ask for Nintendo to blow them out of the water with awesome news at E3. Not my fault you’re one of those poor souls under the impression someone is supposed to 100% like something to be a fan. But whatever. Which brings me back to a previous point. Just a lazy ass reader. Or willfully ignorant.

                            Must have already made up your mind that I’m just PS troll & refuses to read the part of my name that shows I’m not & actually want Nintendo to succeed. Oh well. Just another fanbitch, anyway, that has traits of a shit troll.)

                          2. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Please, Nintendo! Blow me off of the fence at E3 onto your side so I can say the same for Switch, too!}

                            But yeah. Just a waste of my time so I’m done this time. Enjoy yourself cuz that’s all that really matters with playing video games.

        2. Found out #3, 4 on my own, saw or heard about 5 & 6 and 8 from friends. I read the whole list, others I had discovered on my own as well just dozens of things I didn’t know (and also won’t remember).

        3. Is anyone else constantly, accidentally clicking in on the sticks during heated battles? It ticks me OFF! One second I’m swinging my sword (or trying to use one of my special powers, such as Magnesis), then suddenly I’m using the darn scope (or squatting down) due to pressing in on the sticks.
