Nintendo has addressed the wireless issues stemming from the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons and have told Kotaku that they were caused by a ‘manufacturing variation.’ The issue seems to revolve around the left Joy-Con which is causing some people a bit of a headache due to disconnection problems. The company has informed the publication to contact them for a fix if you’re experiencing problems. Here’s the statement provided to Kotaku:
There is no design issue with the Joy-Con controllers, and no widespread proactive repair or replacement effort is underway. A manufacturing variation has resulted in wireless interference with a small number of the left Joy-Con. Moving forward this will not be an issue, as the manufacturing variation has been addressed and corrected at the factory level.
We have determined a simple fix can be made to any affected Joy-Con to improve connectivity.
There are other reasons consumers may be experiencing wireless interference. We are asking consumers to contact our customer support team so we can help them determine if a repair is necessary. If it is, consumers can send their controller directly to Nintendo for the adjustment, free of charge, with an anticipated quick return of less than a week. Repair timing may vary by region. For help with any hardware or software questions, please visit http://support.nintendo.com.

Mine definitely have the issues. I’ve been playing handheld a large amount of the time but hooked up to the dock Zelda is virtually unplayable. But you can guarantee if I contact support I’ll get a load of ‘is it anywhere near your router? Reconfigure your router, is it anywhere near wires?’ Kind of BS so I’ll try moving the dock or playing it at another house.
My brother had the same issue while his Switch was docked. Ended up all he had to do was move the dock in front of his TV. It was sitting behind his TV originally.
I have my dock in front of the tv and my router is really close right behind the tv. I haven’t had any problems at all thankfully.
Ya I don’t have any issues with mine but we did when I placed it behind the TV. We since moved it in front and laid it down to fit where the other consoles are and it works just fine now.
You should realize that that ‘BS’ is used to determine if your joycon requires a repair. They ask those kinds of questions to solve your problem in the least painful way possible.
That’s complete utter BULLSHIT!!! Not only the left Joy-Con, but also the right one has this issue! But it seems that only the left one gets a fix. I’m convinced that even after the fix the controls are very jaggy when the Joy-Cons are obstructed by a leg or something. (If the right one doesn’t get a fix, jagginess 100% confirmed! Even my right Joy-Con often doesn’t recognize a button press.)
You have some issues, your darkness. I’m sad to hear that. But my joy-cons have been flawless on a launch system… soooo milage may vary?
Most youtubers that I frequently watch (e.g. GameXplain) had this issue when they tested the Joy-Cons behind their back. In fact, I can’t remember one that DIDN’T have this issue.
Test it yourself: Go to the settings and and test the analog sticks behind your back (7 feet away from the dock). Do they move smoothly or are there small interruptions to be noticed?
For some people the issue is small, for others like me it’s really bad, but it’s always there! I don’t think your Joy-Cons will work any better in my living room.
Why would I put a Joy-Con behind my back or cup it in my hands to play a game? I know it sounds like Apple’s Antennagate… but people are holding these things wrong!! :P

I just got my Switch back from Nintendo. I had this so bad that two sets of left Joy-cons would not work consistently past three feet from the Switch, with them about five feet from ANY other device. They returned it to me with repairs and now both joycons work perfectly.
Finally everyone with working Joycons can shit the fuck up, the ones saying there was never an issue. I was goddamned right. Obviously it was a single factory causing the issue.
NOW, about the docks scratching people’s switches. Can we fix that factory too?

DUDE. You are who I’m talking about!! There are people carefully using docks, assuming the super tight fit is normal, then scratching their screens. It’s not many, but there are bad docks out there.
And yes, I’m sure some are being more careless, but alot of the dock scratches are likely misfit docks.

I put my Switch in my dock carefully & yet there is this chip on my screen. Thankfully it’s not where the video comes through but it’s still part of the screen none the less.
no scratches here, and i’ve been bringing mine to work almost everyday and docking when i get home. i did however put a tempered glass screen protector on it before i even turned it on though so…
I think if you didn’t scratch it in the first couple days, your dock is fine. People with defective docks report scratches fairly soon after purchase.

I can’t blame him. BotW got screwed on Wii U with the removal of it’s unique Gamepad features because of Switch & the Switch version is looking more & more like a rush job because of the shitty camera controls & motion controls. In the end, we got a lesser version of Breath of the Wild regardless of system. Then there are the issues the Switch itself has like bad connectivity which was fixed with a hardware mod instead of a software one so people with Joy-Con issues have to send the damn thing in to get it fixed. Then there is the issue with the dock scratching some Switch consoles. And I know it’s not bullshit, like amsterdamagecontrol wants to pretend it is because he doesn’t have said issue, because my screen has a chip on it & I know for a fact I was careful with it. But like I said up top, it’s on the part of the screen that doesn’t display video but still. I hate chips regardless of location. Boring menu, too. And no apps that honestly should have been ready for launch, not saved for some months later.
Keep on waiting, Jaded, if you are still waiting! Switch is fucking boring & basic as fuck! If not for BotW, though it also has it’s flaws, I’d be bored with my Switch right now. I give the Switch a 2/10 because of only having one little thing to play on it. I pity my Switch once I’m done with BotW, though. I guess I’ll put it all back up in the box til further notice.
That’s one problem seemingly solved. A lot more problems to go.
Fortunately, I haven’t had ANY of the problems with my Switch, like others are having. The only thing I’ve noticed as far as Joy-Con connectivity is that sometimes (when first turning on the Switch) I have to press the L and R on the Joy-Cons to synch them. But I hardly call that a problem.
This is why you don’t pre-order consoles.
While it’s nice my connection issues only happen when the Joy-Cons hit a certain battery level, I did have that dock issue as I got a chip on my screen that thankfully isn’t over the display area. I hope they fix this issue with a firmware update soon because this hardware fix isn’t gonna work for me since I only have one set of Joy-Cons right now and I’m still playing fucking Zelda on Switch. If they can’t do a firmware fix, then what the fuck were they doing when play testing the fucking Joy-Cons before they sent them out to get mass produced!?
