Nintendo Treehouse Goes Live With The Splatoon 2 Global Testfire

The Nintendo Treehouse team recently livestreamed some Splatoon 2 gameplay during the upcoming shooter’s first Global Testfire, which concluded earlier today. You can check out over an hour of footage in the video below. The in-game event gave Nintendo Switch users a total of six chances to play with other owners worldwide during a three-day period prior to the launch of Splatoon 2, which is scheduled to arrive this summer.

  1. See, I WANTED to play, but I kept getting dropped within 20 seconds of a match starting, and that’s if I got into a match at all. I think I completed a grand total of 4, and no matter what, there was ALWAYS at least one dropout. Whatever the Switch connects to for online play, it’s not ready, as online performances of Bomberman and FAST RMX also had problems during Testfire hours (well, Bomberman had MORE problems) which I didn’t/don’t have normally.

If this continues when they Switch over to paid online, things are going to go to Hell.

    1. Sounds like a problem with your internet.
I played in 5 out of the 6 Splatoon 2 Testfires, and never got kicked out. The only issue I ran into, was not enough players for a match to start, so I had to rejoin. That happened only once or twice.
If you do have good internet, don’t worry about it. The whole reason for this testfire was for Nintendo to improve upon their online services, not for our gaming pleasure. That was just a bonus. :)

      1. There is definitely some kind of problem with their online. I played 2 testfires which were at the same time on different days and the first one I tried was a complete mess and only played 3 whole games which left an extremely sour taste In my mouth to the point that I considered not buying the game. The next one I said what the hell let me give it another shot and this time it went flawless with no errors and this time I completely changed my mind and now looking forward to this game releasing but at the same time hope they fix this online bullshit.

      2. I really don’t think it is, friend- I played the original Testfire 2 years ago and that was smooth as silk, with the same Internet connection then as now.

The other possibility I can fathom is my brother spending *all* day on his laptop eating up all the bandwidth, so much so that I lag horribly trying to play Overwatch on my own PC and then being totally fine hours later, for example. I’m trying to determine if that is indeed the case.

  2. The second time worked better you said? After each testfire, Nintendo improves the online. The first one was a mess because they still had to work out the server issues. The servers haven’t even been used at that point.

The whole purpose of the Global TestFire was for Nintendo to improve the online service for the game. There is nothing to worry about.

  3. What is this game with ink? srsly people …grow up already..this game is not even for gay kids..
Play some real games like CoD or TitanFall ..WAKE UP PEOPLE im here to SAVE you ALL

  4. The first one was bit of a mess, spend half a hour trying to connect.
But after that it was just as smooth as splatoon 1.
It felt pretty much like splatoon.

  5. I played the testfire and it was a very pleasant experience. First the game is very good (though I would have liked more precision with motion controls) and second the network code was good. I had just 2 dropouts in like 3 hours. That’s good stability in my opinion.
I’m happy about Nintendo’s online part, and about the game too.

One thing to consider though… Wi-Fi signal strenght seems not good, I keep stuttering with videos downloaded from the eShop (it keeps buffering), that’s not tolerable. I hope there will be a firmware update to resolve the signal issue, at least to just avoid the video stuttering.

  6. Played three of the test fires all fine at my end and even played on a remote hotspot on one test fire to see how the about and about hotspot would hold up.
    Good news to report……No issues!

Most of the issues I’m hearing about are from the USA where the connection and internet service is poor. Most homes don’t even have fibre optic connections.

  8. Had a lot of fun with the testfire. No connections issues for me except when they kicked me out at the end, kicking and screaming. :( But even then, they allowed matches that started before the end of the testfire to finish before cutting the connection, which I thought was very considerate.

  9. Anyone else a Splatoon veteran think the right joycon stick needs to placed above A/B/X/Y buttons?
It was kind of awkward especially when one is use to jumping with X.
Nintendo should/could release a right joycon with the analog stick above the A/B/X/Y button as an accessory for purchase.
