The Voice Of Princess Zelda (Patricia Summersett) Now Has Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Patricia Summersett, who is the voice actress for Princess Zelda in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has tweeted that she now has a copy of the game for the Nintendo Switch console. She is obviously very excited to have her own copy of the game and why not? It’s a brilliant video game!

Thanks to N-Dub Nation for the tip!

If I ever get a Switch cartridge, I’ll be damn tempted to also lick it. Damn them for telling us about people that did think to lick it & found out about the thing on them to keep kids from putting it in their mouths because now I’m gonna do something I never thought to do myself before. *thinks* Well I wouldn’t say never since I might have done it as a kid myself back in the day. @.@

    1. Felt that way with a lot of the voices. Like they were ok, but not necessarily right for their characters I guess? I dunno. I still hated the Deku Tree’s voice.

      1. The voices in BotW were about as good as the ones from the fan dubs made by Zelda Universe. They’re not very good, but everyone praises their quality and accuracy to the characters. There are some good picks in both BotW and Zelda Universe, but there are so many bad ones.

    2. Agreed. I thought the Japanese voice actress was much better. I’m wondering if there is a way to switch to the Japanese audio in the American version, I haven’t really looked into it.

        1. Well, she’s not even 17 in the game, so I guess she should sound little childish… this way she sounded way too mature, which she personally wasn’t. But it’s not bad, it’s just not fitting pretty much.

      1. to play the Japanese audio I think you have to play the game with a Japanese user account. And it’ll obviously have all text and subtitles in Japanese, making the game not unplayable, but – if you don’t read Japanese – certainly a diminished experience.
I think this is the case across the system: Switch will assume you’re a native of that territory

        1. You only need to swap the region on the Switch, no new account needed, but the problem is the same – text changes along with it.
That said I’m not confident the experience is diminished.
Sure, you (presumably) miss out on all the text in the game…
…but in return you don’t have to listen to the english actors of Zelda, Impa, King Rhoam or Mipha.

Maybe it’s time to learn japanese…
(or any of the other supported languages, which all seem to have casting more suited to their roles. how do you even land a role as an ancient deku tree when you’re twenty? every old character is miscast in english)

Either way the other languages might be nice additions to replayability once you’re familiar with the whole game.

          1. I remember in an interview, they said they hoped people would switch between languages and listen to the game with the various voices. That made me think it was an easy, in-game setting. Is it not?

I wanted to hear it in all the languages they used.

Also, I thought the voice acting was fun. I honestly don’t understand any of the complaints or lack-luster, but the opinion of someone’s voice certainly can very person-to-person.

      2. theres a video from someone on the zelda team talking about how they encourage players to listen to the different casts for each region. couldnt find it …didnt look that hard… but its there

    1. IKR? I would have thought she’d have a switch and a game given to her for free, in addition to whatever they paid her.

  1. I honestly did not like 99% of the voice acting in the English version of the game. However, that doesn’t change the fact that I hope she enjoys the game as much as I did. I am surprised she didn’t have a copy already…

      1. It sounded far too forced, unnatural, and corny for my taste. Whenever a character actually speaks, I am generally cringing, especially Zelda. And this is coming from somebody who’s generally not bothered by most lame voice acting. Something about the voice talent in this game has left me rather dissapointed in this department.

      2. Also, it does not help that most of the dialogue for the cutscenes is atrociously written. Bland, heard a million times before, and boring in general.
All this said, I still LOVE the game. I’m just bagging on what I find to be the weakest link.

        1. I certainly respect your opinion however I do not share your thoughts on the voice acting.

Perhaps since I’ve been a Nintendo gamer most of my life, I haven’t heard enough to know the difference between good and bad. Or maybe my love of the game gave me “Love goggles,” But I thought most of it was pretty fun!

Mass Effect A is getting destroyed for many things, one of which is a very poorly written script, and that’s a huge game. So maybe that will take the edge off Zelda’s script for some gamers. Haha

You would think, huh. :/ Guess not…

  2. don’t like a voice. Kinda wondering that Nintendo wasn’t more cautious about the cast as it was the first game in that series offering spoken dialogues. But also once heard that after the US media landscape isn’t as used to synchronize stuff as other countries’ are, their synchronizations just aren’t as good, if not spoken by hollywood-stars. This kinda came to my mind when watching Princess Monoke in english after watching it in japanese. But don’t know, there are many games with awesome voice casts that aren’t made of stars.

  3. I don’t know how old Princess Zelda is in this game, but her voice sounds too old and mature. And the Gerudo women sounds way too American (aside from when they say “Naboris”. I also don’t know how old Link is. But man, he sure looks like a shrimp next to everyone he meets. Even women.

  4. So, reviewers get copies and systems early, but people who contribute a hell of a lot of voice lines to a triple-A title don’t get shit.

  5. I thought the voice acting was fine. I think everyone had a different preconceived idea what it was suppose to sound like because we have been forced to imagine it for so many years.

I enjoyed the voice acting. The scene with Zelda crying sounded just fine since that’s usually how American actors & actresses cry. We tend to hold back just a little when we cry so as not to be seen as weak (stupid, I know) or whatever. That & some American actors & actresses get accused of overacting when they cry the way many Japanese actors do.

Although, I will admit the game honestly should have gotten anime voice actors to do the characters. Some of the best voice actors/actresses will actually try to mimic the Japanese voice actors in how they cry, scream, etc. I mean, a lot of the other things in the game seem pretty anime-ish so it was a missed opportunity to not have anime voices.
