Given both its popularity and the fact that it pretty much saved a dying video game, or at the very least arcade gaming industry from extinction, I think Donkey Kong deserves to win.
From what I recall, that game saved the entire video game industry as a whole. So yeah. It definitely deserves to be in a hall of fame. In fact, it’s about damn time!
Not gonna lie, the original mortal kombat SUCKED!!
Uhhh no it didn’t! You had to be there when it released to understand its impact. There was NOTHING else like it on the market at the time and the fact that you could rip someone’s head off was inconceivable. It made headlines on every news channel and it was all we talked abou to in school. We used to all meet up at the local arcade and have tournaments for hours and hours. It was honestly bigger than Pokémon go at the time. In fact it dwarfed Pokémon go.
Still sucks, lol.
Yea I guess from the perspective of a child, I could see the game sucking.
I’m not a child… also the game sucks;)
Whatev
Lol, I’m literally just trolling you right now. I’m sure it was a great game in its time, its just not my type of game, and playing it nowadays really feels crappy.
Lol I know. The game is boring as fuck honestly I was just telling you about why it was nominated into hall of fame.
Yeah, i agree the series has grown a lot since and become something that a lot of people really enjoy. Personally I’m fairly sensitive to gore and stuff, so i could never play it.
kids these days don’t appreciate the classics lol
to add to what you were saying I wouldn’t necessarily say there was NOTHING like Mortal Kombat at the time. Before MK came out there was a little game in my arcade called Pit Fighter.

I always thought it was somewhat similar, but once MK came out it kind of blew it out of the water lol
Yea I remember this one. I actually used to like this game, I used to play it all the time. Then mortal kombat happened and this game was a memory…. Both games are really hard to play today, but back then they were the shit. Lol
I think the fact that it took this long for Donkey Kong and the original Pokemon games to be nominated is just tragic- they’re both legendary.
Also, Windows Solitaire? Really?
hey now, solitaire and minesweeper (and arguably SkiFree) are legendary in their own right!
LMAOSHMSFO is right. Solitaire & Minesweeper were the shit on computer before all of these MMOs, flash games, & mobile games also available on PC came along. Of course, Solitaire has fared better than Minesweeper since there have been clones of it. Like the 3D Solitaire game I got on my 3DS, for instance.
Zelda just got in last year so we should care about these awards why?
I mean this is only the third year that these awards have been given out. So Zelda was among the first 10 games to be inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame. That seems pretty reasonable to me.
POKEMON BLUE version ftw!
Gonna say Donkey King and SF2 deserve it the most for what they did for gaming as a whole. FF7 would be good as well.
inb4 Microsoft Windows Solitaire gets inducted
||Donkey Kong should have been one If the top 3 to begin with, it single-handedly revived our world…||
||*of…||
If not for Donkey Kong, we wouldn’t have a video game industry today. So yeah. It definitely should have been in way fucking sooner!
If I had to pick a few, Donkey Kong would easily top the list. Donkey Kong gave Nintendo a foothold in North America which led to the NES playing a huge role in saving a dying industry.
Pokemon Red and Green comes in second for revolutionary gameplay, spawning a worldwide phenomenon, and starting a multi-billion dollar franchise. There aren’t many people who haven’t heard of Pokemon.
Finally (not in a particular order) Halo for revolutionizing First Person Shooters, Resident Evil for basically defining the Survival Horror genre, and FFVII for popularizing JRPGs worldwide.
I think Donkey Kong is overrated honestly. Yea, it was popular, but boring as hell. I remember when it released, me and all my friends really hated that game. If you went to a local arcade you always saw the Donkey Kong machine all by itself with nobody playing it. It still deserves a spot in the hall of fame because of its popularity but the game was really short and boring af.
Not just popularity but for saving the video game industry. We wouldn’t even have video games today, nor games on PC, console, or phone period. Least not in the state it is now, anyway.
Why wasn’t Donkey Kong, the game to save the video game industry & allowed us to even have video games, PC games, & mobile games, in there sooner!?
And what’s with all the hate for Solitaire on Windows!? D: That was one of the things to have fun with back in the day before we had all this other snazzy stuff on computers.

Pokemons it’s my guilty pleasure, but my re-engaging in CS:GO with bonuses https://csgobettings.com/rollbit/ is a thing that keeps me playing. Awards like weapon skins and cases make each match more thrilling. Finding that distinctive skin or equipment that helps you stand out on the battlefield is more exciting than winning
