Playtonic Give Brief Update About Yooka-Laylee For Nintendo Switch

Many Nintendo Switch owners are wondering when they can get their hands on Yooka-Laylee. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game are out in just a couple of weeks leaving Switch owners a little frustrated. The developer PlayTonic says that it’s a bit early to go into specifics regarding the Nintendo Switch version which makes it sound as though it’s someway off.

It’s a bit too early to go into specifics with this version, but rest assured we’re working directly with Nintendo to get it out as soon as possible for our many fans and Kickstarter backers on that platform. We’re big Nintendo fans here, so it’s very exciting to be working on Nintendo Switch.

  1. For me, if I really want this game I will buy it on another platform. Goes for all other muti platform games. Unless it’s a game that I’d want to play on the go, I’m buying it on another platform, for most likely cheaper as well, than the late and more expensive switch version.

    1. and I’m just the opposite. I have a Xbox One and a high end gaming computer besides the Switch (and pretty much all prior systems too). I’ll be buying all my multi-plats on the Switch as I’m more than happy to give a little bit up in graphics for the convenience of having it with me wherever I go. Otherwise, if all I cared about were graphics, all my multi-plats would only be on my computer. 4K on my 65″ TV looks great, but 720p on the Switches screen looks awesome too!

  2. You make it sound like all backers who initially opted for Wii U version and switched to Switch are feeling frustrated. Definitely not the case. Fans are just excited that it’s gonna be here soon

        1. There’s no way it’ll take until fall to get the Switch version. The PS4, PC, and XBOne versions all release April 11th, 2 weeks from now, in fact. If the Switch version takes longer than one to two months to release after all the other versions, you know what happens? We get a repeat of Watch_Dogs, where most people who wanted it already got it on other platforms, thus inherently hurting the later version’s sales. I highly doubt YL Switch Edition will release more than a month after all the others.

          1. I hope your right I wanna get playing that game asap lol I’m just saying the way they stated that makes it seem like its a long ways away so I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce a date later than a month or two. And yup it would be a shame because most ppl will have gotten it already. I on the other hand will be purchasing all games on the switch if possible. Nothing tops portability for me so I would be waiting

  3. Being a spiritual successor of two of my favorite games on the N64, I can’t wait to play it, plus, is a colorful, vivid warm hearted 3d platformer, how often we see game like that nowadays.

  4. If you grew up with Banjo N64 then you know damn well it’s a disgrace if you play this on Xbox. Would be a shame if it’s not atleast a couple months after initial release though

        1. So? Playtonic have every right to port this to as many consoles as they want, and those console players, who had NOTHING to do with what Microsoft did to Rare, have every right to be able to enjoy this game.

Also, saying a Banjo spiritual successor on a non-Nintendo platform is a shame is like saying anyone with a picture with Mario and Sonic as friends is a shame, considering their history. It’s not.

          1. I’m not saying it’s odd that it’s on all platforms?? I’m saying if you grew up with Banjo and have a Switch, why would you not want to experience it on that? Do you pal don’t be so butthurt.

            1. That’s not what you’re saying. You’re saying people who play this on Xbox are a disgrace. I agree with THIS comment, in that I’d want to play it on a Nintendo console. That doesn’t mean people who don’t are a disgrace. Also, I’ll probably get it on X1 as well because, as a collector, I want a physical copy.

                1. Tons, actually, and I have an overwhelming amount of drunk pictures to prove it. You, on the other hand, must not go to many. I’m also, however, not a moron. I love the ad hominem, though. A typical response from people like you.

Oh my god! This guy is a troll! He responded to me with those same exact words when I had a different opinion about Breath of the Wild from his own! …along with a few other colorful words… xD

And that little shit called me a troll. XD

    1. Uhh what? I grew up with Nintendo I own all Nintendo Platforms including Switch and I think Yooka Laylee is going to look nice on Xbox One.

It’s nice that the game is Multiplatform tbh.

A disgrace to play a game on a certain console? never heard such nonsense before.

        1. With Nuts and Bolts you mean? it wasn’t the best game in the series but I wouldn’t exactly say they ruined it as such.

    1. I heard about them denying a refund but they are banning?! WOW! Did not know this! Personally, if they get backers who are contributing to a specific platform and they willingly cancel said platform then yes, they should willingly give back that money. That is bad business and bad form.

      1. Oh, and I believe I will not be purchasing this just for that reason. I wasn’t a backer but as someone in the industry, I believe with every part of me that it is just wrong. It is tantamount to someone asking for money for something that they will not fulfill and not giving it back or you ordering something from Amazon and not getting the item you ordered. Unlike Playtonic though, if Amazon cannot fulfill your order they will give a refund.

      2. It’s a temporary forum ban for asking for a refund over the JonTron voice removal, which they were unnecessarily spammed with by a minuscule minority. It’s an absolute joke; just a bunch of moron gamers acting entitled, as usual. They have no right to ask for a refund over JonTron’s voice removal when he was never a part of the Kickstarter backing in the first place. They never promised him and offered him the part as a gift to fans AFTER the campaign ended. Those backers backed the game before they knew this was a thing; they can’t back out because they took it away. God, I can’t stand the gaming community.

        1. That’s part of what happens when parents give their kids everything they want. Just looking at my kids friends and classmates, I’d say at least 90% of them come off as entitled….then they bitch about how much they hate their parents….f’ing brats.

After reading what Nowhere Man typed, fuck those people that got banned. It’s what they get for spamming the site all because their precious racist JonTron got removed. …maybe they should go back to hiding their faces under their white fucking hoods… Too soon..?

  5. This game’s initial launch will bomb, platformers don’t sell shit on consoles other than Nintendo’s, Ubisoft learned it the hard way when they betrayed Nintendo for Microsoft and Sony and their crappy Rayman game ended up selling more on Nintendo’s failed console than on the successful XBOone or PS4.
Not putting your platformer on a Nintendo console at launch is a death sentence for indies.

    1. That’s funny, the PS4 version of Rayman Legends was the only one that sold over 1 million, and it sold for over 2 million combined on all three platforms. The PS3 version of Rayman Origins was also the only one that sold over 1 million, and sold over 1.5 million combined on all three platforms (the Wii version sold the least despite having higher hardware sales than PS3 and Xbox 360). The Ratchet & Clank reboot sold over 2 million, and the overwhelming positive reception to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will probably lead to millions of sales on PS4. Helps to know what you’re talking about.

Also, LOL at calling the Xbox One successful. Despite strong initial sales keeping its overall numbers BARELY respectable, it’s as dead a console has ever been 3+ years in from an exclusive software standpoint.

        1. A) My comment is entirely relevant to the OP’s comment. You missing the point is merely a lack of reading comprehension on your end, and that point is that platformers can sell on any console, which is backed by actual data and not the anecdotal crap that the OP is spouting.
          B) I’ve never owned a Sony system outside of the PSP in my life. In fact, I’m a guy who spent over $700 on preorders for the Switch, its accessories, and launch games.
          C) You’re a ****ing child. Don’t ever call me a fanboy again, it’s an asinine term.
          D) Why would I be crying? It’s coming to a console I own.
          E) Liking Rayman doesn’t make anyone a PS fanboy, as definitive versions of the series’s best games are on SEGA and Nintendo consoles (Saturn, Dreamcast, GameCube, Wii, Wii U — all of which I own.).

I do appreciate your time and effort, though.

  6. Buying it for all Platforms so I can wait I guess. Was looking forward to playing it at work in 2 weeks but oh well if it means a smoother game on Switch I’m all for it.

Not gonna let the Jon Tron die hards ruin my Hype for the game.

      1. It doesn’t matter what Console you play it on and if anything it’s a good thing people can experience the games we enjoyed as Children on another Platform but of course you think that’s a disgrace right?

  7. Grunty fat ass is ready but the Switch sells are still not steady. Sold out here sold out there, while Im waiting may is will buy a Joy Con to pair.
Somewhere my Switch is in R&D while my Switch games and accessories are waiting for their hardware to be.

I have the portable USB battery, Th e Pro controller, Screen protector, BombermanR and Zelda you see. The game pre ordered is now Odyssey.

All my Switch stuff have been homeless enough. I have to strategize how to look around more tough.
