  1. It seems that Nintendo is already covering the shortage problem in japan, this are good news!! they have to sell the highest number of systems possible in this first months. almost 80k, not not shabby at all.

  2. P3. Very nice. I was afraid the number might continue to decline this week. This means the drop in sales since launch is at least partially due to a lack of stock.

  3. Even due to strong demand and shortages, the Switch still remains the best selling system in Japan. Kudos to Nintendo for a job well done

    1. Didn’t this happen with the Wii U and it sold 3 million, and then it bombed? Not saying the switch will, but I think we should all wait awhile for the year to continue to move forward before everyone gets in theirs knees with their mouths waiting for Nintendo to finish.

        1. Yeah it was It was at 3 million within a month in a half period. The system release November 2012, a week before Black Friday if I’m not mistaken. The end of the year, the system hit 3 million world wide. This is why I’m saying for everyone not to start jerking each other off just yet. Nintendo may also be skewing the numbers, as you have no idea if the numbers that are being shown are because people lost interest or because there wasn’t enough supply to meet demand. This was the exactly the same method of business strategy that was utilize during the holidays of the Wii U. I’ll wait until actual pen to paper numbers come out, because, from my understanding, nothing has been released for American at all. And we all know, Japan and American are their biggest markets. Japan is slowly cutting down. But where is the numbers for USA?

          1. I think it’s pretty clear that the decrease in numbers is at least partially due to stock shortages. Japan sales dropped two weeks in a row after launch and then this past week they were up 28k. The interest is still there. In NA, Switch’s are going out of stock minutes after they come in. Best Buy today restocked the Switch and NES mini and said they saw heavier online traffic than they had on Black Friday.

If you look at the full picture, not just sales numbers, the situation with the Switch is quite different than the Wii U. The enthusiasm among the general public for the Switch is much higher than it was for the Wii U. Nintendo’s marketing campaign for the Switch is much more aggressive than it was for the Wii U. Nintendo recently doubled production for the upcoming year.

I’m not saying the Switch will definitely succeed in the end, but it’s quite clear that the situation now is not the same situation we had with the Wii U. People have good reason to be enthusiastic about the Switch’s future.

            1. I hear you and all, and what you’re saying makes sense, but I just one thing to really say: Nintendo, show me the actual numbers and not just possibilitys.

                1. I mean, I do hope switch does good so better third party support can hit it. I’m not gonna really buy much on the switch third party wise since I already have the P4, but giving that to be an option to others who only have a switch or just started gaming with this one system is a win for them and customers as a whole. Thats what I hope at least. But numbers mean a lot.

  4. Well you guys focus on the switch. There is something more worrying, the wii u is selling less than a Ps3…. 2 things Nintendo needs to learn from Sony. 1) when you launch a new console you should also still support the previous generation this does not only apply to handheld console. 2) a 11 years console sell more than a 5 years console. You really needs to think about how you screwed it up.

    1. PS3 software do not sells, just the hardware. The Wii U instead bombed very early, it was something to forget about, and to not repeat.

  7. This is a messive achievement of Nintendo for acheiving this mighty target. I hope the number of sales will exceed to their targets.
