Japan: Early Nintendo Switch Sales Outpacing PlayStation 4

Every Wednesday we publish the Media Create sales figures which show how well software and hardware are performing in Japan. This week the Nintendo Switch was once again the best-selling hardware in the land of the rising sun. However, what is interesting is that early sales of the console are outpacing the PlayStation 4 in the same time period. Nintendo’s latest console has hit 500K sales already despite there being shortages.

  1. This is good to see.
From a UK perspective, they’ve done a great job marketing this.
Constantly see Facebook ads, TV ads, outdoor displays. And dare I say, its not too cheesy.

    1. Yeah i mean I’ve seen like 100s of TV ads which is fab, with WiiU i saw like 3 in 4 years lol… Get more Switches out and pump out the games, as i say E3 better be delicious lol

    1. now we need a strong third-party lineup for the European and American market. don´t get me wrong, but we need the Switchto sold great in those regions, and for better or worse, third-party games like FIFA, COD and many more are vital for that matter.

  3. And what’s amazing is that the bombs have yet to be dropped outside of BOTW. Once MK8 Deluxe launches next month with Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Super Mario Odyssey to follow in the next coming months, the Switch will be in complete control of the Japanese gaming market

  4. The PS4 had a slow start in Japan, and combined with Japan’s love for handhelds, this isn’t too surprising. I just hope Nintendo can steadily deliver to keep things up.

It’s Japan. They are suckers for portability.

      1. Yeah I know. It’s doing great in sales in general, though. Personally, I don’t care about sales. I just like seeing haters eat their words. Fanboys are haters alike ruin the gaming community.

I wonder how long before someone calls me a Switch hater for all of my criticisms in spite of me actually owning my own Switch. I already got called a PlayStation troll, aka PlayStation fanboy, by someone that has made me see him as nothing more than a Nintendo troll.

I’m sure they’ll be able to keep this up. Least in Japan, anyway. Switch is portable, after all, and Japan loves their handhelds.
