Recording For Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Soundtrack Is Virtually Complete

One of the big titles for the Nintendo Switch this year is the behemoth of an RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Many are sceptical as to whether we will actually get it this year, however Nintendo Europe recently reconfirmed it’s coming. The composer behind the soundtrack Yasunori Mitsuda says that the recording for the game is virtually complete and now they’re gearing up for the mixing of the music.

Mitsuda said that 150 people have worked on the ambitious soundtrack for the game and that it is one of the biggest projects in gaming right now. He also hinted that plans for a OST are in the works and that news will be announced soon. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope that we get the game this year here in the west.

  1. I just started playing the original Xenoblade Chronicles through the virtual console on the WiiU. It is an AMAZING game! The battle system, the world within the game, the quests, and the soundtrack as well as the characters just blew me away! I only wish I would have been able to play it sooner.

    Looking forward to playing Xenoblade Chronicles X as well as this one whenever it comes out :D

    1. I completed Xenoblade on my N3DS, the portability and 3D effects helped me reengage. Great, great game and I did eventually beat it. (The final boss is hellava hard IMO)

      I took a break from X. I Love it, and will get back into it as I slowly start taking breaks from Zelda BotW.

      I hope Xenoblade 2 is as amazing as X!

      1. I’ve been wanting to replay the original Xenoblade on the 3ds just for the 3D effect alone. I think the 3d effect is tremendously under appreciated. It’s one of my favorite things about the system and it’s why I still prefer the 3ds over the Switch, at least in handheld mode.

        Here’s to hoping they didn’t butcher the soundtrack in Xenoblade 2 like they did in X. Seriously, that was my biggest gripe about the game… that damn NLA theme was awful… even a few days ago I went back into the game, just to see where I left off. And that NLA music started playing… I quickly turned the game back off. Just awful. The worst rpg track of all time.

        1. I thought the theme was just fine…
          Until I played so many hours hearing the same thing over and over they definitely could have done with a little bit of variety. D:

            This is what happens when you only have one major hub for people to visit. It’s better to have a bunch of random smaller hubs scattered about instead. And all NEED to have different music. I guess they forgot to add those things from Xenoblade to X.

          So I don’t spam what I said to Jaded, read my comment to him as it applies to you both, actually.

        Zanza? Hard? lol …. Then again, I always ended up over level 90 by the time I got to the bastard. They really should have made it to where Zanza’s difficulty raises with your current level. So if ya level 99, he’d be level 102 so he can put up a moderate fight. (I’d say 105 but another enemy with that level is yellow so you’d end up having to do the entire segment with Zanza all over again if you mess up even once & get killed. Oh & You’d have to refight what’s his name all over again, too. Damn it! I forgot his na-… Oh right. It was… Wait. I don’t want to spoil that for people that haven’t played the game. I had a lot of stuff in Xenoblade spoiled that I don’t want another person to have what would have been the best plot twists since “Luke, I am your father!” ruined for them.) Speaking of, I wish New Game Plus allowed you to choose what carries over into new game plus beyond your items since the second playthrough is pretty boring since you restart over leveled & can’t enjoy the sweet ultimate weapon for Shulk or any number of awesome outfits you want to play the entire game wearing.

        1. Aw, I’m hoping no one who hasn’t finished the game yet sees this… At least put a spoiler tag before giving away the final boss right at the beginning of your comment

            Yeah. I didn’t think about that. Too bad wordpress doesn’t let us black out spoilers like reddit does. :/ Honestly, wordpress needs to let us use HTML codes.

            Then again, it is just the guy’s name & I didn’t really give specifics as to why he’s the final boss. As long as no one puts too much thought into it, they shouldn’t be able to figure anything major out about Zanza. Still, the black out thing for spoilers from reddit would have been nice.

    2. You’re in for a treat. The game just gets better and better as you play, and the story is one of the best I’ve seen in any game, ever.

      How far are you at the moment?

  2. Hopefully they announce release date soon. I gta make time to play xc1 . Never been able to beat it after two tries lol first was 40 hours and 2nd was 60hrs then got erased . SMH

      1. Lol well I lost my ds where I had the file stored so yea not really erased. Still have the game tho so I can restart anytime it’s just a lot of time to devote just to get to the part that I was at previously which sucks

    1. If I was you I’d just start fresh with Zenoblade 2. Otherwise you’ll burn yourself out. Happened to me with Bayonetta 2. I played through the first Bayonetta and 100 percented the game. That game is amazing btw. So then I tried to play Bayonetta 2 and I was too burnt out on the series. I had to wait like six months later until I finally played it. In retrospect I wish I would have played Bayonetta 2 first.

      1. Lol that’s a good idea. It’ll all depend on when exactly XBC2 comes out. Assuming it’s this year, I’ll probably only have enough time to finish X.

        That same exact thing happened to me with Bayonetta. I bought the two-pack for Wii U and couldn’t get into the first one immediately after playing the second. I still haven’t gone back to it. Supposedly Sega is gonna make a Bayonetta announcement on the 11th, so it might be a good idea to go back to that soon.

        1. Personally, I’d play Xenoblade Chronicles 1 first. It might not have giant mechs or as big a world, but the story is quite a bit better.
          Xenoblade Chronicles X feels more like an MMORPG with a single player story mode included. Actually, it would probably have been better if it was an MMORPG, the world is big enough to be one.

            1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Please, Nintendo! Blow me off of the fence at E3 onto your side so I can say the same for Switch, too!}

              Shame. If you played Xenoblade first then played X, it’d make you want Xenoblade 2 even more as it’ll be more like the first Xenoblade as X was completely different. (While I kind of regret not playing X, I’m also kind of glad as I’d probably be let down by it not being the same as the first Xenoblade. But then again, maybe the giant mechs might have made me actually like it enough to not be disappointed by it being a lesser Xenoblade Chronicles experience. Til X gets a Switch port, I may never really know. I hope it gets ported before Xenoblade 2, though, so I can play the lesser Xenoblade experience which will make me appreciate Xenoblade 2 more. After all, absence makes the heart grow fonder & it does that best when you’ve played a lesser experience in between them.)

              1. I’m enjoying XCX a lot. I doubt I would’ve been disappointed with it if I had played Chronicles 1 first. I know a major complaint about XCX was a lackluster story. It may be that I’m just not far enough into it, but I haven’t noticed anything yet that makes me think the story is bad. I think the combat is great, I like the exploration, atmosphere, and customization options. If I had to rate it right now, I’d give it at least a 9/10.

                  ||The main story is not bad, it’s just too short, however, if you do all the Affinity Missions and some other special missions, it expands the story and knowledge of the world/inhabitants alot…||

                2. It’s not that the story is bad, but… if you’ve played the first game, it’s VERY hard to live up to a story like that.

                3. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Please, Nintendo! Blow me off of the fence at E3 onto your side so I can say the same for Switch, too!}

                  To baconstrip37’s point, Xenoblade Chronicles’s story is like this generation’s Chrono Trigger. Least for those that owned a Wii and/or 3DS & got this game and doesn’t have some foolish hate for JRPG stories.

              2. When and if you play XCX, the Skells are AWESOME. You don’t get them right away (you gotta pass a license test and -warning- the Curators part of it is a pain in the ass as it’s largely luck-based- you have to collect 3 items that spawn rather randomly and only in a few areas), but when you DO get them, they make combat so much more fun and traveling less tedious. Just don’t let your Skell get wrecked- you respawn, but they don’t, forcing you to go all the way back to NLA Barracks just to recover it, and even that can only happen a few times. Battle dialogue for party members also changes (the best thing is putting Lao in a Skell and hearing him say “Go to Hell, please!” as he rips into enemies). They really add to the experience.

                1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Please, Nintendo! Blow me off of the fence at E3 onto your side so I can say the same for Switch, too!}

                  So the skells are like the horses in BotW where I have to backtrack all the way back to where I left them to use them again. That’s sounds like LOADS of fun! …ugh………

      2. SAME thing happened to me with that witch. Burnt out (but fully enjoyed) part 1.

        Fuck. I think I’ll play me some Bayonetta soon!

      If you are talking about XCX, I can understand why you might want to turn the music off if the hub theme is that annoying at NLA. If you are talking about the original, what was annoying about the music in that one? I enjoyed every single track in the first game.

      1. I don’t understand the complaint people have about the music in XCX. There are a couple songs that I enjoy; and the other songs I just don’t notice. I haven’t heard anything that’s actually bothered me to the point that I want to turn the music off.

          ||When you have only 2 themes in NLA and you have over 300 hours, you’ll understand…||

          1. There are only two themes in NLA? I thought there were more. Well I doubt it’ll ever bother me. I like at least one of the NLA themes, and if there’s only one more, it won’t bother me.

              1. Lol I just looked it up. That’s the one I like. It’s not great and the vocals are mostly unnecessary, but I’ve tapped my foot along to it more than once.

    I hope we really do get this game in the UK this year. I don’t need a US version as I’ll be happy with the UK voice actors. Now I just have to remember how to get into the eShop of another country without having said game attached to an account I won’t be keeping.

    1. If it has physical copies (which it most likely will), why not try importing one? I don’t think you need an alt account for that unless I missed something about no region-locking (again, thank the gods they dropped that nonsense, score 1 for Switch).

        If this game is a direct sequel to the original Xenoblade and it’s just as good, I want this game digital because I don’t see myself selling the game… ever! So must have digital! (Nintendo needs to fix this stupid thing where we have to make a separate account to access other eShops! I want all of my purchases under the same account. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of an account in the first place.)

  4. 3 & 1/2 years ago I shelled out major cash to get my hands on a new copy of Xenoblade Chronicles… (It was so worth it.)

    I’d never played a game like it before. The gameplay was perfect, the characters and voice acting was beyond anything I’d hoped for… And the music…!
    I think that I logged somewhere along 125 hours total when I was done.
    Then Xenoblade X came out and I was so excited… Only to be horribly let down when I finally played it. I only did like 24 hours. Never even got my Mecha, but I didn’t care. I was too dissatisfied and let down.

    So I sincerely hope

    So I sincerely hope that they are able to recreate the magic of the first game (or at least come close), because that was really such a missed opportunity on their part. No interesting characters or relationship dynamics. Overly varied music, no playable Nopon, weak story, shallow side quests… Please not again.

  6. I have a gut feeling that Sony Music Japan will be publishing the soundtrack for Nintendo and Monolith Soft.
