We heard earlier in the week that Square Enix is pledging to support the Nintendo Switch with a variety of titles, which is clearly great news. We now have the full translation of Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda comments to Japanese publication The Nikkei. You can read the encouraging words, below.
“Our developers with a strong interest in the Switch are eager to challenge themselves to find new ways for people to play games. Having more gaming platforms available is a good thing for us. I really want the Switch to succeed. We’ll be develop new titles, and we’d like to port existing titles that the Switch can support often as we can.
Nintendo creates a variety of new gameplay possibilities. I think other companies will come up with some surprising gimmicks using the Switch’s unique capabilities. We have our own way of doing things, so we’ll be marrying the Switch’s unique features to the kinds of games we’re known for.”
Hitman, Tomb Raider and Deus Ex Mankind Divided would be nice… please?
||Give me the third one you mentioned at least…||
The Commander likes humans better when they are… more like him.
Tomb Raider was recently ported to the Nvidia shield (exclusive to the platform), since it’s the same hardware I’m betting that is one we’ll see.
I believe games that are tailored to look as good as possible on the PS4/XBO will never really be a thing on the Switch. Tomb Rider Rises was never considered to be released on the Switch when it was developed, so it might be too hard to now port it over.
There’s a difference in porting a game like Snake Pass which isn’t really that complex, during its development phase and taking an AAA title like you mentioned and port it to a different kind of device.
Not impossible though, I just would never expect it to happen.
Some studio at some point might try it, as the Switch really generates hype and they’d be fools not to. But I highly doubt the results are gonna be so great.
But chances are quite good that studios like SE from now on create games for PS4, XBO and the Switch so we don’t need any ports of older games anymore.
The problem with those franchises you mentioned is just, that it’s not just an issue with the platform but also with the audience. Even if Tomb Raider would look and run just as good on the Switch, ppl wouldn’t buy it as much as they do on other systems where these franchises feel more at home.
Actually, Tomb Raider (Reboot) was able to run on the Nvidia Shield and basically most of these games are made using that same engine. So no, I think the Switch is more than capable.
Reboot, yes, that also ran on the PS3. I was talking about TR Rises which was designed more exclusively to run on XBO and PS4.
Also, a portable full Tomb Raider, Hitman or Deus Ex game would actually increase the audience as more people would want a portable version of those games that also doubles as a home console version.
though I can imagine that a game like Deus Ex might not be the best experience on the handheld-screen. With Zelda I already notice how much more you actually see on the big screen but there it’s still very good on the handheld. But a game like Deus Ex might be too much tailored to be a big screen experience for that. But it’s just a thought, of course I’d like to see them trying. In the end, they even did an iOS game for that franchise.
btw Hitman would really be very good for the Switch. I believe handhelds allow you to play around more and do stuff that would feel like waste of precious screen-time when sitting in front of a TV. That’s why Zelda is so cool on the Switch. And a game like Hitman would encourage you to try out even more.
SECRET of MANA!
Final Fantasy !
Do it.
One down, one to go.

I know! I think that is very cool indeed!
I mainly wish they would make a whole new game from the ground up. It would be an absolutely beautiful game.
Can we have Chrono Trigger 2?
Chrono Cross you mean?
No, a proper sequel to Chrono Trigger would be nicer.
You have to keep in mind, a lot of dipshits who never even played the fucking game insist that Chrono Cross is not a sequel.
Lot of hate for that game.
I like it, and it DOES connect to Chrono Trigger.
But i also would like more of a sequel.
I don’t really hate the game & I do consider it a sequel to Trigger. But I think it’s a lousy sequel that should be treated as an alternate timeline game. Trigger involved a lot of time travel & changing events from the past so that should cause a nice ripple effect that creates alternate timelines from the point they killed Lavos. Cross can be considered one of the more darker alternate timelines. I’ll be more accepting of it & would actually play it then if there is ever a chance to play it.
They already got dragon quest on the way that’s all I want honestly lol the other games they could port I already bought on PS4 . But hopefully there’s some good stuff for the future
This can be easily the most popular console ever. So it should be good to have every software existent on it.
Past, present and future. Something to talk about 10 years after now.
“Hey, do you remember that ‘clicking’ console?”
“Yeah, I’ve played Mario Odissey on it, and this, and that.”
“Whoa, I’m still playing with it.”
Etc.
Please port KH3 and FF XV!
KH3 would be the most perfect SE game ever for a Nintendo console, so I’m sure they’re looking into that.
Parasite Eve 1,2 and 3rd Birthday as a collection, similar to the Secret of Mana collection, would be fantastic.
A Front Mission collection would definitely sell too.
Crystal Chronicles and a true sequel to Chrono Trigger would be nice. (I refuse to acknowledge Cross as a true sequel to Trigger & hope a new game reveals it takes place in a darker timeline. (Yay for time travel & the alternate timelines it can create if you change things in the past!)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remake*
I would buy Crystal Chronicles from the eshop if they ever include a gamecube vc, only problem would be no gameboy adapter since that had useful stuff.
We’ll be develop new titles, and we’d like to port existing titles that the Switch can support often as we can.
