One of the more interesting programs coming to Netflix is a gritty animated television adaptation of of Castlevania. The director behind the project, Adi Shankar, was recently asked what else he would like to work on to which he replied that he would love to make an r-rated Mega Man movie. Let’s hope that the Castlevania show is a huge success so that he can make his dream a reality.

Hell no. I’d doubt that a franchise that has both a 90’s cartoon, a 55-issue comic, and a dumbed-down 2017 cartoon, would allow a R-rated incarnation of a video game mascot to exist.
I don’t trust this guy with video game properties. With Castlevania he said it’s “going to be R-rated as f***,” and “is going to be the best f*****g video game adaptation we’ve had to date.” Now he wants to make an R-rated Mega Man. It sounds like he just has a hard-on for blood, gore, and violence; and wants to make R-rated shows simply for the sake of making R-rated shows. In what universe can an R-rated Mega Man show ever work?
I’m not even convinced that an R-Rated Castlevnia is necessary. After all, the source material for the game was classic horror movies. Why not make a Castlevania series that shows homage to classic human monster tales of old?
I feel the same way. I’m afraid he’s gonna ruin the show by putting too much focus on having a hardcore, R-rated series, and not enough focus on actually making a decent show. I don’t think there’s ever even been an M-rated Castlevania game.
All of the 3D games along with the 3DS game were M rated
Ok. I didn’t know the 3DS even had a Castlevania title. I had only found a few DS titles, a Wii title, and the older PS1 games, all of which were rated teen.

I think that it could be great, The Protomen made a great album using Megaman history and transforming that history in something way more dramatic and serious.
Calm down, boy. A dark and gritty Castlevania works because of the world it’s set in has the potential to be violent. An R-rated Mega Man would make about as much sense as an R-rated Kirby movie.

I have no faith in Adi Shankar to even make the Castlevania series. I really didn’t like his gritty Power Rangers fan film he made a few years ago. When he makes things gritty, he does it in a way that almost seems ashamed of the source material.
Whoa now! Slow your role (roll?), Shankar! Let’s see how you do Castlevania first then we’ll talk about other projects.. even if it is Mega-Man who might not fit in an R rated movie but I’m willing to give it a chance if Castlevania does well, if Capcom even allows it. We don’t want you making the same mistake that one idiot made with Mighty No. 9 by working on other projects before his current project was even proven to be a success. (Sadly, he fucked that game up since he was focusing on other projects which is probably one of the reasons Mighty No. 9 failed in the first place.)
If it is the Zero series or the X series it may work, but classic will not not work at all
How about we get some Mega Man games instead. Like, I don’t know, Mega Man Legends 3? Or maybe a classic MM game that mixes up the bosses of the 11 (12 with Gameboy’s Mega Man 5) different games. Or perhaps something new? We have nine or ten completely different versions of Mega Man. Why not add yet another?
I think this is the right guy to do Castlevania, but not everything needs the R-rated treatment.
