Video: Mario Kart 8 Graphics Comparison (Wii U And Switch)

While Mario Kart 8 sold very well considering the Wii U’s limited install base, Nintendo is clever to re-release the hit racing game for their newest console. However, many loyal fans are left wondering whether they should buy the game again. This graphical comparison video may answer that question for some, showing us if the game’s fantastic visuals look any better on the Switch. Check it out below.

  2. It’s hard to tell too much with YouTube’s compression, but from the looks of it, the only improvement on the Switch is the resolution being higher. With a continued lack of any anti-aliasing, there is still some jaggedness. The better reason to buy it again would be for the portability, not the graphics.

  3. You can’t call for anti-aliasing. All the power is necessary to sustain a good level of graphics.
The Wii U version already very good, this just update resolution to make it better. Enough.

  4. Original Mario kart looks good enough to me so any improvement made is welcome . Never purchased the original so I’m definitely buying this with the switch wheel accessories . Hope they work well enough lol

  5. The only difference besides resolution that i see is that in the first track there is some confetti on the finish line that’s not on the Wii U, and the motion blur when hitting a boost pad is much more pronounced in the Switch version. But I don’t care because 720-1080p is a gigantic leap in visual quality, and the battle mode fixes the only part of Mario Kart 8 that wasn’t near perfection. Totally looking forward to this game!

  7. next up: Switch remaster of Zelda Breath of the Wild in 1080p 60fps with new Triforce Heroes Battle Arena starring Epona as a playable character with 5 new Epona amiibos

  8. Mario Kart 8 was the first 1st Party Wii U game to have Native 1080p graphics. I don’t know why people are talking about a resolution difference. Technically the Switch version is a downgrade because it only plays 720 when on the go. 3rd Parties started making their games Native 1080p on Wii U earlier. Batman Arkham City definitive & Call of Duty Black Ops 2 were 720p with their resolution upped at 1080p. The Switch is at least more powerful than the original PS4, the Nintendo Switch runs the Vulkan game engine.
