Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Seems To Remove Fire Hopping Exploit

As review copies have been trickling out we’ve learnt more about the upcoming Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. GameXplain is reporting that Nintendo has removed the popular but slightly annoying fire hopping exploit from the game which saw players quickly hopping from side to side to extend their boost. You can check it out in the video embedded below.

  1. Unlike many people, I see the fire hopping as an interesting feature, which is intended to be an intrinsic part of the game mechanics. Every MK8 player is granted to take advantage of it, so I don’t get all the fuss around it.

Which is annoying is people cheating during online races. Some players are strangely immune against shells, bananas, and whatever weapons. I quit playing MK8 online because competing against those cheaters is really annoying.

      1. Given how frequently it happens, I barely believe all of them are using shields. But I acknowledge I may be wrong on this issue as most of people I talked to about it never saw any suspicion of cheating on MK8.

        Well, maybe I’ll never know.

      1. Could be a lag issue indeed. But the problem is that some particular players never got hit. This is kind of odd in my opinion.

      1. “doesn’t mean that it’s something that Nintendo want to require you to do to be good at the game”

So why devs left behind the possibility of doing fire hopping in the final version of the game?

Actually, no. You and maybe a few more power-MK8 drivers can, but not “every” in the sense that it’s VERY DIFFICULT to master.

I consider myself a very good MK player and yet, as of today, I still can’t put the trick off (either offline or online). So if I have a friend coming over and using Fire Hopping, I say the F* word and just don’t wanna play.

That’s a very unfair trick for the 99% of us.

      1. I’m not a high-skilled player. But sometimes I end up mastering the fire hopping decently. So, my common sense says that if I can do so, 99% of people out there are also able to master it.

I noted that in every race I played online, 100% of people were able to do it. Of course, maybe those who aren’t do not join online multilayer to star with.

Anyway, if I were you, I would look forward to play against skilled people as they push us to our limits — this is a good thing in gaming.

      2. Oh no, a Mario Kart game involving skill? The horror! Let’s keep it 100% luck based instead. While we’re at it, might as well triple the number of blue shells too.

  2. This is the first time I’m hearing about this. It doesn’t sound like cheating, since it’s an in-game mechnic, but I’m on board for seeing it removed. The field will be more level now. Also, for those saying that there’s nothing wrong with it because anyone could use it, it seems that not every vehicle is capable of it to begin with. My go-to (Rosalina on a Comet) doesn’t seem capable of pulling off the exploit.

  3. It’s sad that so many people are happy about this just cause they suck at the game, and can’t be bothered to learn how to use it. It really adds a lot more strategy and fun to the game, and now that it’s gone I will most likely be skipping this title.
