The upcoming Nintendo Switch port of Mario Kart 8 has more content than any entry in the series before it. According to Nintendo, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is simply “the biggest Mario Kart yet” – with new racers, a wider selection of items, a revamped battle mode and support for various playable modes via the Nintendo Switch’s versatile hardware. You can check out the latest trailer below to see what’s new in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe compared to the original Wii U game:
You don’t say?
The new Renegade Roundup battle mode looks so fun.
Admittedly, yes, it does.
I’m tempted to go all-in and just buy it since I haven’t missed a Mario Kart since 64 (and getting it on launch day since MKDS), but since I have 8 and all its DLC on Wii U, I’d essentially be paying $60 for what amounts to 15$ DLC plus portability. I’m still holding out for an early-adopter’s program for Wii U version owners.
You can always trade in the Wii U version. I believe you can get about $20-$30 for it last I saw it advertised at GameStop.
I downloaded my copy…
This is exactly why I prefer physical copies of games if I can get them.
Tough luck man that sucks…
Yyyyyep…
I’m exactly in the same situation. Downloaded it as I thought that game would be perfect to always have accessible on the system and now I feel the tempatation to get it for the Switch, but not at full price.
But It might also be available on ebay or something else shortly after its launch, so I’ll just wait and see how the price develops.
Digital copies are good for cheap games, not really for high priced ones. That’s why I prefer buying physical. It makes me resell everything when a new console come out (if it’s good). ;)
$15 DLC + Portability + 1080p… If it weren’t one of my favorite games of all time I’d be complaining a bit (but probably still buying). With MK8, I’m lapping up this deluxe edition with a smile.
Ditch it. Why buying it again? You already have it. Buy it only if you trade your Wii U. The bonuses aren’t worthed 60$ in my opinion. This is a game for those who haven’t it (because have sold their Wii U or never had a Wii U).
I will buy it only because I missed it. And if I had a Wii U I would have just traded that console for a Nintendo Switch and just for that eventually bought it again.
Eventually they can offer an early adopter program only for digital downloads but it’s unlikely.
Still, it was an $80 game with all the DLC so even if you conclude that it is only $15 worth of DLC, it is still $95 worth of game for $60 on a new console with better resolution, portability and other tweaks outside of the new battle mode.
I would have not touched DLCs with a finger.
Money is unfair stuff, even a rich man should use it moderately in my opinion.
I don’t see for him the point to waste them except all those things you mentioned would be vital. If it’s his case fine, otherwise he can invest on things he missed out. I would have done that, seems logical to me.
Next time better physical eventually (out the old, in the new).
I have the digital and physical version on Wii U. I will be buying this digital day one on the Switch because… you can’t take your money with you when you’re dead.
But you can offer it and make happy someone else if you have it in abundance. If not think at your future after tomorrow. You are not going to die tomorrow (I wish you that).
I would have given away my physical copy after I decided to download the digital during a winter sale but anyone I know who has a Wii U already had MK8. I’ve been meaning to just sell it on ebay but I’m lazy lolololol
It may be the largest MK yet, but it’s also the smallest jump between itself and the last one as far as new content and mechanics. That doesn’t exactly make the claim of “largest Mario Kart yet” particularly extraordinary.
Exactly. It’s a bit like releasing an updated version of Breath of the Wild with 5 new shrines in a few months, selling it for full price, and advertising it as “the biggest Zelda yet”.
Nope, it took years and it’s on another console.
Though SNK did exactly that with some Neo-Geo games. No one complained. ^^
It’s just marketing, and it works. ^^
Mario kart wii + riivolution = 100+ tracks.
It’s also the biggest rip off too regardless.
nice. hopefully, smash bros comes next to the switch. with all dlc ready to go.
seems like it could easily happen if mario kart sells exceptionally well.
Only way to pique my interest is if they add new race tracks, otherwise I’d rather have another Double Dash.
Lol obviously
If I didn’t already have MK8 with the dlc then I might buy it but spending $60 for the same game with better battle mode is just a waste of money to me. So pass.
No… new… race tracks..? :(
Nope, though that’s old news, man.
Mario Kart 9 DLC will be Fire Emblem Characters and nothing more just… Fire Emblem Characters
ANd I would be OK with that. :P
JUST. FIRE. EMBLEM. CHARACTERS.
… No Mario.
No Dankey Kang
No Peach
No Yoshi
No Bowser
Just… Fire Emblem Characters
We shall call it “FE Kart”! It will be GLORIOUS!
I’ve always hated the battle modes in Mario Kart games. Not because they were bad. But because I HATE MULTI-PLAYER! I get sick of them SO fast!
The standard race mode can still be considered multiplayer.
But it’s not split-screen. So it’s more tolerable.
Ah good point, I’m not a big fan of split screen but I do think Mario Kart is much more fun to play with humans rather than CPUs, which is why I really like playing online.
Personally I can’t wait, I skipped Wii U so for me this is ALL new content. The fact that it’s portable has really got me hyped!
A couple of new characters most people won’t even use online plus a shitty Battle Mode most people also won’t use? hahaha what a rip off.
The only thing good about this is if you don’t already own Mario Kart 8 but a lot of people do already so what’s the point? not much I don’t think.
A rip off no matter what way you look at it and only blind fanboys will defend this.
You really don’t like seeing people enjoy things huh?
Where did I say that? I didn’t so don’t put words into my mouth please.
It’s more about the implication of your final statement. You’re basically shaming people who are excited for this by saying it’s a rip off no matter what and if you’re content with purchasing the game as a previous Wii U owner of the game then you are just a “blind fanboy”. Don’t try to pretend like your comment wasn’t toxic as hell, because it was.
It is a rip off though to those that already own it for Wii U that’s what I mean and it should be offered at some sort of discount to those players at the very least. I don’t like people that defend these practices as they only encourage Companies to keep conducting business in this manner so I stand by what I said before.
Don’t like what I said? that’s too bad I’m allowed to speak my mind as much as the next person.
I’ll wait until the game is 30 to 40 bucks. I had the Wii U one, and I don’t see it worth another 60 dollars. IMO
I have Rayman 3 on GOG so I’ll stick with that thanks. Didn’t think much of the GBA version tbh
Woops wrong thread LOL
Still had this tab open from earlier and I clicked on it by mistake :3
20-30 bucks or no buy. I got some games on Wii U digital in the hopes the next system will have some kind of system set up to allow those of us that got it digitally to get it for a nice price-cut when & if said game gets ported. (Least this was one of my reasons for getting many games digital on Wii U.) Probably a mistake on my part to actually trust Nintendo, though, so I only have myself to blame.
No matter. I’m perfectly happy with skipping over this port as I can use the money I would have spent on this on something else instead. Since the Switch doesn’t have anything worth my attention coming this month or next month, Prey for PS4 is my target game in May.
Anyway, now I’m waiting for the day every physical copy of any game comes with a download code for a digital version of the game like how movies have a digital download code these days. Probably have a long time for that to happen; if it happens at all. :/
