A Twitch user named Coldeggman has managed to complete the original Animal Crossing for the GameCube in one day.
By completion, this means he has collected all items, found all bugs, fish, fossils and gyroids, along with upgrading his house and Tom Nook’s store. On top of this, he also donated every possible item to the museum, collected all of the villager statues and built the town’s extra bridge. All in a grand total of 22 hours, 49 minutes.
Unlike recent iterations of the Animal Crossing series, Animal Crossing for the GameCube allows you to input codes to unlock some of the items, which Coldeggman used to help him along. The use of codes certainly doesn’t make it any less impressive considering the amount of effort it takes to do all of the above in less than 24 hours.
You can check out an archive of the speed run here.
That’s crazy.
I wonder how long it took to perfect that run.
To get all the fish, bugs, etc., would that mean he had to save and go back to the menu to fast forward days since certain species only appear during certain seasons? Would exiting actual gameplay technically not count as a single run?

Isn’t there a code for a complete catalog? How do we know he didn’t cheat?
If you click on the little “here” link on the article you’d know he didn’t cheat.
they also said they used codes though. so how do we know they didnt use that one?
“Unlike recent iterations of the Animal Crossing series, Animal Crossing for the GameCube allows you to input codes to unlock some of the items, which Coldeggman used to help him along”
So he did take advantage of the code system to an extent.
that’s what i mean. he could have used the one for complete catalogue.
Skipping to 13 hours in the stream he’s apparently buying stuff from Nook to complete his catalog, so apparently he didn’t input the code to automatically complete his catalog. Though, if you’re going to input codes at all, why is inputting codes for a 100% speedrun acceptable while other ones aren’t?
that’s what i was wondering.
There are some items, like the retro games, that you can’t get without codes
Some you can’t even get through Action Replay like the forbidden four NES games.
Meant to say can only get.
If there is an article about his speedrun, then it is recorded. And might I add, duh, sir.
I remember going to this game just to play the old NES games, it was a pretty neat feature before the VC was a thing. I also miss when the villagers seemed to have more personality to them and the aesthetic of the “choo choo” the train would add to the overworld.

Thats a big accomplishment! Ive played this game for years. Still better than Wild World in my opinion.
I truly don’t know what people get out of speedrunning games. I never have understood the point.
