Nintendo President Says He’s “Relieved” Consumers Have Taken To The Switch

The Wall Street Journal has published a brief interview with Nintendo president  Tatsumi Kimishima after today’s promising financial results were disclosed. Kimishima says in the interview that he is relieved that consumers have taken to the company’s latest product, the Nintendo Switch. He also says that he is surprised that Zelda is selling so well and says that it only goes and reinforces the idea that good software can sell hardware.

“We have done a lot of things to raise awareness about how the Switch experience can offer something new, and I am just relieved that consumers seem to have accepted it.”

Mr. Kimishima said Nintendo would be spending more this year on promotion to sell the Switch, putting a drag on operating profit.

“It is surprising that Zelda is doing so well, but it also proved what we have been saying is right: A good game title will spur sales of the platform device,” Mr. Kimishima said.

  1. When Tatsumi Kimishima became the new president of Nintendo, I thought we would see him all the time. Even in Nintendo Directs. But, I think I’ve only seen him in one special event, and that was the Switch presentation. Oh how I miss Iwata.

        1. IWATA MADE MORE CASH THAN NY ONE IN GAMING HISTORY SWITCH IS NX =IWATAS PLAN ALL ALONG THIS GUY ONLY TOOK OVER BECAUSE IWATA DIED

          Jesus the ignorance here

          1. and Iwata and company still keep alive most of Mr. Hiroshi Yamaushi’s way of thinking: always do something diferent.

    1. As much as I love Iwata–may he rest in peace, I am very grateful to have Kimishima in charge now. He has a no-nonsense attitude, and knows what modern Nintendo needs to do to succeed.

      1. YOUR A COMPLETE IDIOT SWICH WAS IWATAS PLAN, AND WII AND DS ARE THE HIGHEST BY FAR MY MULTITUDES PROFITING SYSTEMS IN GAMINGS HISTORY

SWITCH COMBINES EVERY THING ALL NINTENDO SYSTEMS HAVE DONE INTO ONE UNIT IT IS A WII A WIIU A GAMEBOY A N64 ITS EVERYTHING EXACTLY AS IWATA PLANNED EXACTLY AS I SAID YEARS A GO AND YES I DID SEE WII COMING AND I INVESTED I MADE A FUTUNE AND I HAVE INVESTED AGAIN

ONLY A IDIOT WOULD CALL THE NATURAL EVOLUTION OF GAMING A GIMMICK SWITCH IS GENERIC EVOLUTION OF THE EXPERIENCE AS TECH EVOLVES AND ALLOWS IT TO HAPPEN ITS NOT WEIRD NINTENDO OR ANY-OTHER MINDLESS SHIT SONY SHILLS COME OUT WITH

PLAY STATION IS THE EXACT SAME THING AS PS1 SWITCH IS THE ACTUAL GENERATIONAL EVOLUTION THAT ALL REAL GAMERS AND REAL GAMING COMPANY’S ALWAYS WANTED IF SEGA WAS A THING TODAY THEY WOULD HAVE GONE THE EXACT SAME WAY

SAME WITH NEO GEO ETC SONY IS SELLING A BRAND NINTENDO IS SELLING THE REVOLUTIONS EXPECTED OF A GAMING SYSTEM….

        1. Fantasticly said, 100% agreed. The only thing I miss on Switch though, is the 2nd screen experience. I am hoping however, that it WILL be supported in the future iterations of the Switch. I am almost certain. It will probably be optional 2nd screen experience and one screen experience.

          1. How would that realistically be done though…
Would you have to buy two Switch consoles, one for the TV and one used as a controller?
Would they do the whole smart phone used as second screen thing?

Or are you thinking of a future post-switch console.

            1. I’m thinking the latter. When the time comes. I mean, they still push the DS concept and I am not convinced that they will abandon the 2-screen functionality any time soon. I think WiiU was a huge learning experience for them in this direction.

        1. Your surprise at my surprise about his surprise of Lord Kimishima’s surprise which he found surprising is surprising, but irrelevant… Being an Evil Commander and all… which isn’t a surprise… :p

  2. Looks like the Prez will be pushing for better games as he is seeing first hand how great games push console and other hardware sales. With that, my guess is E3 will have some big Nintendo IP announcements…

    Bring the games

  3. Nintendo has been winning back my trust with the likes of breath of the wild, fire emblem and of course super mario odyssey. They just need to keep this listening to consumers up and I think they’ll do very well.
