Equity Analyst Calls Mario Kart 8 Deluxe A “Mega-Hit On A Different Scale”

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a huge success for Nintendo, the game’s record release day sales outpacing the hugely popular Mario Kart Wii. However, it seems that the game has been even more of a success than we initially thought. According to one equity analyst, “MK8D is mega-hit on a different scale altogether”. Observing market trends, Atul Goyal of Jefferies Equity Analysts claims that the game is an absolutely massive hit for Nintendo’s newest console. Check out his full quote below.

“No, this is not just any ordinary success. The scale of this success is many times bigger than what is visible with “MK8D sales of 459K units exceeded MKWii sales of 405K”. Analyzing the scale, we realize that like-for-like, MK8D is mega-hit on a different scale altogether (maybe 5-10x better). On the launch day in the US, MK8D sold c. 459K units. By 31Mar’17, Switch had an installed base of c. 1.2m in ‘The Americas’ (and probably 1.5m by Apr-end). The earlier launch day record was earlier held by Mario Kart Wii (launched in Apr 2008). Recall that MK-Wii was launched 17 months after Wii launch (Nov-2006). My 31Mar’08, Wii had a global installed base of 24.45m (Switch was at c. 2.74m by ’17 Mar-end) and its installed base in The Americas was 10.6m (Switch was 1.2m).”

  1. So annoying and confusing tekst to say that it’s a bigger success, not only for the #of sales, bus the attachment rate being also much much higher.

  2. This is a crucial moment for Nintendo, they need to take advantage of this level of demand and ship as much as possible systems they could afford even if that means to raise the shipping cost a little… great job again!

      1. Commander… You better watch that tone with me, after all, Samus is my profile icon, not some Boss that I beat in Dark Aether. Of course, just joking. ;)

  5. Yeah of course it’s going to sell good. All the early adopters are mainly die hard fans. So far its.m literally the only great game besides Zelda. What else are people going to buy? 1-2-Switch?

    1. No thanks true most of the people who got Mario kart 8 deluxe were either new to the series or haven’t pick up one since double dash or snes same with most people who pick up a switch it’s doing really well and selling at better pace then the 3ds and Wii U console and games at the start of a launch year most fans of Wii U and 3ds are die hard Nintendo fans the switch seems to reel in almost anyone

    2. This isn’t how entertainment media works. People don’t buy something just because it’s there, they move to a different platform. They could be buying PS4 games with that money. They aren’t.

  6. HATERS!!!! EAT YOUR WORDS!!!! BETTER YET…..EAT THAT CROW TOO WHILE Y’ALL AT IT!!! ;)

  7. The Switch is not just being bought by Nintendo die hards as the Wii U is a better way to gage that number because only die hards knew that it was a new console and not just a Wii add on. The Switch has struck a chord and people have gotten interested. The “it only has Zelda and and 1-2 Switch (and now Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” rants are over ridden by the fact that 2 of the 3 are pretty epic games. Other consoles get 2-4 huge AAA games a year if even and the Switch already has 2 in a couple months. Throw in Fast RMX (in my opinion) and you’ve got plenty to play. Arms, Splatoon2, Xenoblade and Mario Odyssey are all coming out in 2017 and all are pretty exciting if you ask me. Apparently people have taken notice and Nintendo is doing a fantastic job with advertisements and keeping the Switch in our faces and that is why it’s selling so well. 3rd parties will on on board easier and it’s a win for all Switch owners.

Nintendo says they won’t do a huge presentation at E3 but if the announce Pokemon it’s really going to put the Switch over the top sales wise IMO.

  8. Great news. Amazing game. Only thing I don’t like about it is that the forced Mercedes Benz promo/ in-game ad also made it to the Switch. Stuff like this doesn’t belong into a full priced game. I am very concerned about this in general and I hope that we wont see this too often in the future. If we do, count me out Nintendo. It’s a deal breaker.

  9. Fire Emblem Elitist

Hmm, I wonder how much Nintendo Paid people to say that Microsoft bribed people to not say negative things about the xbox one so how do we know this isn’t staged too?
