With the release of the Nintendo Switch, many fans are wondering what the future looks like for the 3DS. While Fire Emblem Echoes is still coming for the handheld, the series producer has said that it will probably be the last entry to the series that will appear on the console. In an interview with Dengeki Nintendo, Hitoshi Yamagami talked about the franchise’s future and ruled out future 3DS games.
This is to be expected and a welcome development. This game is single-handedlybkeeping my 3DS a zombie. The more developers focusing strictly on the Switch, the better.
Good, now some Advanced Wars or another Code name game….
Please and thank you…
i would like to see a new advance wars and with the actual cast aka the blue moon, orange star, yellow comet green earth and black hole armies. not the awful days of ruin but i will not buy another system which is hard for me to do as the switch seems ok but in the end it’s another bit of tech that will gather dust and become obsolete then forgotten so i’m staying retro. Only new thing i’ll buy is probably a nvidia shield
And I will stay awaiting for my Fire Emblem Heroes….
More Switch Fire Emblem games confirmed
Good, I love my 3ds but it’s time is done. Echoes will probably be my last 3DS game I buy unless the next Pokemon game isn’t available on the Switch. I don’t need to carry 2 handhelds around.
b-but Nintendo said the switch isn’t a 3ds successor
Its really not, but if you own a Switch then you would know the feeling. A feeling that you would rather be playing your Switch than your 3ds. It’s just a superior device. Every game I play on the 3ds I always tell myself; “this would be so much better on the Switch”.
Didn’t they say the same thing about the DS during game boy days? Then it was so successful they made it their main handheld.
A lot more developers are now getting focused on the Switch and this is great. Now I know Nintendo’s E3 presentation will be sorely dedicated to the Switch as more devs are gearing their games towards it
On top of that it’s a remake and not even a new game. Can’t wait to see all of Nintendo’s effort on one machine. Hasn’t happened since the NES.
Yeah that’s true. This is why I think Kimishima said that Nintendo wants the Switch to be played for a long time. They weren’t being honest when they said the Switch wasn’t a replacement or the Wii U or the 3DS because it certainly appears to be just that. I’m so anticipated this year’s E3 for Nintendo. I think we are gonna be amazed at the quantity of quality content
They had the Game & Watch concurrently with the NES, and then came the Gameboy. They’ve always had two fronts.
And then only GameBoy. Only idiots can’t see the obvious.
And then the SNES… You obviously don’t see the overlap here…
They won’t have two portables cannibilizing each other.
Thank you fortune cookie.
There may still be two variants of the Switch, only time will tell.
That wouldn’t be cannibilization as it’s still the same system.
Like the new 3DS, Scorpio, Neo… The newer system always takes away spotlight.
It still counts as the same sales. They’re not counted as separate consoles since they play the same exact games.
Well the New 3DS is capable of higher processing power titles, while the former doesn’t. Similar thing could happen with the Switch as Nintendo has done it for portables twice already.
New 3DS has two exclusive games. Two.
When your Switch doesn’t play two great titles, you’ll hear it from the masses.
One of those games is coming to Switch and the other is getting its sequel on Switch. The fuck you talking about.
Back when they released the regular 3DS users weren’t happy. If there’s a split in the future, current Switch owners wouldn’t be happy even just for two titles.
I don’t think they’ll release a more powerful Switch until late in the game. The next iteration will most likely just be a smaller version for more portability.
*for the Wii U or 3DS
His comments doesn’t do any favours to the 3DS/2DS. If anything, it might actually hurt the sales of the new 2DS. Imagine you’re someone who is excited to buy the 2DS then find out that main company will soon stop supporting the system with content/games.
If you didn’t have something in the 2DS or 3DS family yet, you probably didn’t play any of its games from the past 6 anyway, and the library of games is still impressive with the likes of LoZ Link Between Worlds, Mario Kart 7, Fire Emblem Awakening/Fates/Echoes, Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon, Pokemon Sun and Moon, Tomodachi Life, Animal Crossing New Leaf… I could go on.
*past 6 years
I feel terrible to be ringing the death bell for the 3DS – but it’s time for all series to make their way onto the Switch!

*looks at the word probably* I’m skeptical of whether Echoes will be the last now.

But doesn’t the release for the new 2DS XL means more games or at least DS still not dying out?
RIP 3DS, I only knew ye for a short time overall since my attention was drawn to the U.
