The Nintendo Switch has been a massive success, but Nintendo is not the only company that contributed to that success. NVIDIA‘s Tegra chipsets were a valuable asset in making the Switch what it is. That said, NVIDIA recently held a financial call, where CEO Jen-Hsun Huang was asked if the console’s success would result in NVIDIA pursuing consoles more. Huang gave a lengthy response, saying that “Consoles is not really a business to us. It’s a business to them. And we’re selected to work on these consoles. And if it makes sense and the strategic alignment is great and we’re in a position to be able to do it, because the opportunity cost of building a game console is quite high. The number of engineers who know how to build computing platforms like this – and in the case of the Nintendo Switch, it’s just an incredible console that fits in such a small form factor. And it could both be a mobile gaming device as well as a console gaming device. It’s just really quite amazing, and they just did an amazing job.
Somebody asked me a few months ago before it was launched how I thought it was going to do. And of course without saying anything about it, I said that it delighted me in a way that no game console has done in the last 10 – 15 years. And it’s true, this is a really, really innovative product and really quite ingenious. And if you ever have a chance to get it in your hands, it’s just really delightful.
And so in that case, the opportunity to work on it was just really, really too enticing. We really wanted to do it, but it always requires deep strategic thought because it took several hundred engineers to work on, and they could be working on something else like all of the major initiatives we have. And so we have to be mindful about the strategic opportunity cost that goes along with these. But in the case of the Nintendo Switch, it’s just a home run. I’m so glad I did it, and it was the perfect collaboration for us.
Thanks, paidenthusiast
Well people did say that Nvidia were talking about how they need to get a contract with a console manufacture or they’d of canned the Tegra line, so Nintendo actually saved the Tegra and we could see a new Nintendo Switch with possible a more powerful Tegra chip a few years down the line.
Couldn’t be happier for both NVIDIA and Nintendo.
Shut up
Dude seriously!
I thought we got passed this?!
YOU SHUT UP!
You fucking pathetic moron!
He did nothing but spoke positively and here you are back to your same old bullshit you stupid little fucking piece of shit!
YOU SHUT UP!
UGH i’m so sick of this shit from you.
It would be different if you actually fired back with something more thought out and intelligent, but you did not.. you just keep telling people to shut up.
Why don’t you do the rest of us a favor, and you shut the fuck up!
Fine.
Thank you, paid, for sharing this excellent news. Let’s hope that the relationship between Nintendo and NVIDIA will continue for the next decade and beyond. The Nintendo Switch is (according to the CEO of NVIDIA) an innovative hybrid system.
||The Hybrid will be our new beginning and the end of the Xbot infestation in Japan…||
I seriously doubt you need Nintendo for that.. i mean Japan has little to no internet in the XBox either way.
||Are you lost? No hostile attacks? No rage over my unreachable self?…||
ugh!
Interest!
Can’t even edit comments.
Nivida did approved for Nintendo help to make this thing. Not only that, they help them with the motion controls for the joy-cons.
Shut up
And why?
No problem my bro. I’m always willing to share good Nintendo news with my fellow Nintendo comrades
||And wipe away impurities from Nintendo and us…||
Looks like NVidia got their Shield to sell afterall, it just needed some retro branding. :] I’m a fan of NVidia and will generally choose a PC build that includes their graphics cards. Glad it appears to be a win-win for them.
Hold on a second, was it nvidia who approach Nintendo in the first place and sold the chip at lost ? Cause I don’t remember it was Nintendo go to them and say guys could you please help ???

Nice humblebrag, nVidia…
Sicar you need a “Like” button. I would give it a heart if you added that feature all of a sudden.
Phenomenal news. Bravo Nvidia.
