The Digital Version Of RiMe’s Switch Port Is Now Priced At $30

RiMe is just two weeks away from its worldwide launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with a Nintendo Switch version coming later this summer. The Switch version is going to be released both physically and digitally, but paying for the game on the Switch was going to cost more than on other platforms. Grey Box, one of two companies that will be publishing the game, has announced that you will now be able to digitally buy the game on the Nintendo Switch for $29.99/€34.99/£29.99, down from its original price of $39.99/€44.99/£39.99. Grey Box explained that the higher price was due to “additional development, manufacturing, and publishing costs involved with that port”. The reason for the price change, according to Grey Box, was due to fan feedback and the desire to “provide a fair deal to everyone around”. They said that they “discussed how we could do that, without simply selling at a loss, all while also being fair to our retail partners”.

The price change helped out with the digital version of the game, but Grey Box admits that a price change for the retail version just wouldn’t work. They can’t lower the price without selling at a loss, so the team decided to add more value to that package. Grey Box says that “for the Nintendo Switch version of RiME, all physical copies will include a printed code for a download of the complete, beautiful soundtrack by David García (a sample of which you can find here). You will be able to download the music via Bandcamp in one of the multiple high-quality formats. The soundtrack is planned on being sold separately for $10 in the US (and equivalent prices elsewhere), and so the value you’re going to get out of this will be the same as somebody who purchased a different version of RiME, and then bought the soundtrack”.

  1. Ok, i think this makes sense. If cartridges cost more then yeah you might have to pay more for physical, but then you get the soundtrack. Digital doesn’t cost more to produce, so it can be the same price. This is fine by me.

  2. I don’t know about anyone else but I’d pay more for a more tangible version of the game. Digital is cool and all but I wanna be able to actually hold my games.

    1. Then that is the option you are given, and will take. As it was before they were charging more and you either had to take it or not buy the game. A lot of feedback opted with the latter and thats why they gave everyone a 3rd option.
