Wonder Boy Developer Wants To Remake The Original Zelda

Lizardcube did an incredible job remastering Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, originally released as Wonder Boy III back in 1989. While the developer has said they’re interested in moving on to games of their own, LizardCube’s Omar Cornut has said they would continue making remasters if the right project came along. In an interview with USGamer, Cornut said how he’d love to remake the original Legend of Zelda. However, he doubts that Nintendo would let them. Would you like to see Zelda remastered in the style of Wonder Boy? Tell us below.

Part of me wants to make new games. The creative me is sort of ashamed to be making remasters. The technical me finds the process very interesting. If we were to make another remake, we need to find something that first we love enough and then this game has to be something we can get the license for. I wouldn’t mind remaking The Legend of Zelda, but Nintendo is never going to let us.

  1. That maybe it in a nutshell. Think of all the times they’ve resold Zelda to its users? Thats free money too. If they have a remake, people would opt for that new version over the original.

    While they could make endless cash off both, if it sucks or not fun by today’s standards, then it will just hurt the franchise.

    1. Eh youll always have older people like for example my dad who would never buy the remake but would always buy the original. Which we did for the 3ds, wii, wii u etc.

    2. That’s not necessarily true. Mario 64 was remade, but the original is still widely preferred by the fans. Even Pokemon, there’s FRLG, but the original titles still broke records on the eshop.

    1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

      ||Since you have been pretty civilized lately, I’ll comment on yours with the same…||

      ||I’d like to see a remaster of Golden Axe 1-3 myself for the Switch, preferably 2.5D and maybe add something new or add more levels…||

  2. Considering all of the classic NES games to be remade, I’m surprised Zelda 1 has never gotten a proper remake. I would love to play a remastered version with graphics like A Link Between Worlds. Put that on the Switch and you’re golden.

  3. Nintendo already remade original Zelda (with different maps) into the SNES art style, DS Zelda. I think simply re-releasing DS Zelda in a playable format would be adequate.

    1. I think you mean BS The Legend of Zelda, if your talking about the SNES Satellaview game that was it. Of course, every time I read “BS” I think of a different definition of BS.

  4. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits. This use to be something that awaited those for all consoles. It's sad it's mostly just a PS4 slogan these days. Maybe Nintendo will get back to that greatness with the Switch. Only time will tell.}

    I hate to say this but I just can’t get into Legend of Zelda or it’s direct sequel, Adventure of Link. :/ It’s just too outdated for me. If I had played them before ever touching Ocarina of Time or Link’s Awakening, I’d have a different opinion on the matter. So a remake of the first two games would be most welcome for me.

    1. I have the same opinion of the gameboy titles, I think those deserve a remake more than ones that are already popular like OoT, WW, TP, and MM. There’s something about the original Zelda that drew me to it though, I think it has a certain charm to it that I can enjoy even though I grew up on an N64.
