Level-5 Share Their Thoughts On Nintendo Switch

Level-5, the developer behind the beloved Professor Layton and other established series, have confirmed today that they are developing for the Nintendo Switch. Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino has shared his thoughts on Nintendo’s latest platform in the latest issue of Nikkei Trendy. Here’s what he had to say about the popular system:

Nintendo Switch, which you can play as both a stationary system and as a portable game machine, was released in March.

Hino: “I think Switch is good. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is extremely fun. It’s almost dangerous. (Laughs.) Actually, playing with Switch myself, my impression [of the system] has changed a lot from when it was still in development. I was hesitant about its ‘play both inside and outside’ style, but I feel like there is a considerable potential there.

“Anyway, Zelda is a lot of fun, so I personally carry it around and play it as much as I can, even on airplanes. The model that Nintendo gave me is the one with the red- and blue-colored controllers, so when I carried it around a lot, the looks I got made me self-conscious. I bought the black controller that they released myself and attached it. (Laughs.)

“I think the Style of Switch is a wonderful fit for competitive games. You can play if you’re gathered in real life, as well as online. For example, I think the fact that the game lovers within a company can get together and play Mario Kart is really fascinating and interesting. And while I can’t say the content quite yet, we’re working on game(s)* that support [Switch].”

          1. I think they are making decisions based on how the switch performs, based on what their president said. They are in new territory, and don’t want to commit to a hard direction hastily.

            1. It looks like they already did to me. If you look back at the 8th gen with all those ports to 3DS and how the Wii U was basically a Wii/DS hybrid their next step seemed crystal clear.

    1. Me too, got into the series because of the Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright crossover, and I’m almost done with the prequel trilogy. Absolutely can’t wait for Lady Layton, I’ll be playing the original trilogy as I wait in the meantime.

        1. I remember when Professor Layton was new, saw the demo in Wal-Mart and I wanted it right away, but I was a 10 year old with no allowance and would get only one game for my birthday and Christmas. Eventually I forgot about wanting it, but I’m grateful that the crossover reintroduced me to the series 2 years ago.

      1. I’ve been a huge fan of the layton series since the first game came out. I have been fortunate enough to play (and own) all of the pf games. (My favorite being the 2nd one.)
If level 5 releases something similar like a spin off even, I’ll be happy. Just no more mobile games!
