Nintendo Switch doesn’t have a system-wide achievement system, but that didn’t stop NIS America from implementing one of its own via Disgaea 5 Complete. The recently-released Switch port carries over all of the original PlayStation 4 version’s trophies, as well as the notifications for acquiring them. However, on Switch, these trophies are cataloged within the game itself – which sees a non-player character keeping a record of every achievement players unlock.
Not sure why Nintendo hasn’t implemented some sort of trophy or achievement system yet. Even PC has it. *shrug*
To be fair, a lot of them DO have in-game ones. Smash Bros and Bayonetta 2 being perfect examples.
Which is nothing new. Games have been doing that for decades.
Which is why I’m saying what is the big deal?
Ok in game is something but he refers a global system trophies.
Personally I don’t see Nintendo copying tehse ideas from Sony or XboxOne.
The big deal is the trophies/achievements won’t be lost if something befalls your game’s save data like it gets corrupt or you accidentally delete it. Or some family member deletes it because they don’t know what the hell they are doing. Of course, this is pointless if Nintendo is too stupid to do a universal account system instead of this console locked bullshit.
Because they don’t want to make it a requirement for every dev and 2 man indie studio out there? Because they don’t want to hire hundreds of people just for testing each and every achievement before a game is allowed to released on their platform and to ease up the submission process? Waste of time and money if you as a dev need to do something, that doesn’t make any sense for your game!
Not a valid argument. Just because a platform has an achievement system, it doesn’t mean every and each developer that makes games for it is forced to make use of it. Those who want to, can do so. Those who do not, are free to ignore the feature, as it is the case with plenty of games on other platforms.
Once again, it’s a question of options. But we already know Nintendo doesn’t seem to be very fond of providing those, haha.
They don’t need hundreads of people to work on an achievement system. I think it was on the last “ps I love you” podcast that Jeremy Dunham (of psyonix) was the one in charge of the trophies. If an indie developer needs a single person to work on the achievement system, then other devs will manage. Soecially since most bigger titles are multiplat and already have that system implemented.
Nobody said to make it a requirement for every game and it’s really not that hard to implement.
I would not be opposed to it, but I would not care in either way.
I do not care about steam achievements at all. And after I stopped playing PS3, I have not missed that feature.
Maybe Nintendo doesn’t seems to be interested to bring this system on the console.
Even if they add this I don’t see as a cool think now.
This is one of the things Nintendo should do. Make em “Stars” so they fit in with “Nintendo’s Theme”. You could have Bronze, Silver, and Gold Stars. Not hard Nintendo.
That would be cool, like coins, mushrooms and stars.. Maybe a platinum or gold Mario trophy when you collect all in game “trophies”
Yes! I like your idea even better!!
In game achievements are cool but part of the fun is attaining a certain achievement / trophy that your friends don’t have and kinda show it off. Wish Switch along with other platforms would a a virtual room or something where you could display your fave or rarest trophies and achievements for you friends or others to see.
Like the statues in Wind Waker?
Anything really, could be random Nintendo Characters as long there was something to work for to get all trophies in a game… But could be complicated too if there’s to many random trophies so a gold Mario would be cool too for getting all Stars, Shrooms, coins in a game (trophies/achievements ). But then it needs to be social cuz other wise I don’t think I’d really care to much to unlock the achievements if only I know I did them lol.
The xbox has that (sort of) you can place whatever achievement on the background of your profile. So whenever anyone looks you up, youre most rare or hardest achievement is on display.
Ah, I didn’t know that ! I only have PS4 and Switch this gen and the 360 didn’t do it at the time I was playing… Have no idea what it’s doing now as my 360 is R.I.P (for the 4th time btw….). So I’ve given up on Microsoft lol. Cool to know though, wish Sony and Nintendo would do the same thing or similar ;)
You arent missing out much. Unless you like its exclusives youll be fine without an xbox one. And yeah its a cool feature, im sure itll be copied to the ps4. Or at least it should be.
I don’t want achievements as a requirement to systems. I hate them in most games. Storydriven games that award you with achievements every chapter and more genre in which achievements just doesn’t make any sense are my problem with this. I believe achievements could be integrated in any game by itself. Like in Diablo 3 or Smash and like in this example.
Everything else is just the virtual dick size comparison and defines humanity again as animals if it’s really necessary.
Plot twist: in the grand scheme of things, humans ARE animals. We just developed reasoning & stuff. It’s just that many humans have gotten this big ego that blinds them from this truth.
I like Trophies/Achievements. It’s like a checklist of what to do. I loved Nier: Automata so much that I was compelled to Platinum it. Also they’re great for revisiting games. I hadn’t finished a No Kill run on Snake Eater until the PS3 version. Besides if people don’t like them, they can just turn the notifications off and never look at them. Win/win!
No because you need to create achievements for many languages, test them activating correctly which is taking many reccources in every small dev team. 95% of Nintendo Switch games are indies…and if achievements implemented by devs optionally into the game are no motivation for you…than what’s the point of those? Do you know how many games are not going through submission on PS4 and Xbox Live because of 1 or 2 broken achievements? Delay of games for this bullshit is not worth it.
This is different to Steam. The place on which it doesn’t matter if everything works or not. Valve isn’t interested in testing every inch of your game. On console that’s a bottleneck system for games. Not to mention that more than 70% of Nintendos own first party studios prefer to have no achievements to their games. Forcing creatives to do something is not a good thing. Achievement systems are the most uncreative thing about games and one of the worst developments in the past decade.
I didn’t say that they should be mandatory or that I thought they were creative. I don’t care if a game has trophies or not. They just don’t bother me. Neither do delays.
Hopefully they announce something like this at E3
Filthy Xbot concept. Disgusting.
Nintendo should quit being stubborn & just create their own kind of trophy/achievement set up. If any gamer doesn’t care for it, they can just ignore them & turn off notifications if the system has a notification thing for it. And contrary to what Tenograd thinks, developers aren’t required to bother with the system if they don’t want to.
