Rumour: Supposed Super Smash Bros Switch Images Float Around 4Chan

Update: As we all expected these are fake and were designed by YouTuber TheBitBlock.

Rumours have been swirling for quite some time that a port of Super Smash Bros Wii U is heading to the Nintendo Switch thanks to various Nintendo insiders. Images of the game have reportedly popped up on popular online message board 4Chan. It isn’t the most reliable source as anyone can post to the site but there have been leaks before that have originated on the site. I guess we shall have to wait until next month to see if the images that have been posted are legitimate, but for now mark them as rumour. Enjoy!

        1. Multiplayer smash run on console wasn’t really viable. Think about trying to find a lobby and see if everyone stays in it for the whole match. Nintendo just didn’t have the servers for it.

    1. Conspiracy Theory:
This is why Nintendo went with such a basic title name for the game… (it would be easier to rename/rebrand if they wanted to port it.)

  1. Looks like nothing more than what a 4Chan newfag would make. We’ve been through this road many times.

    Pass.

  2. The character’s models doesn’t look with the same quality as the Wii U ‘s, it looks fake to me, but, it would be a perfect addition to my switch library

    1. I’m just spitballing here, but what if in handheld mode they use 3DS models, while in dock they use much higher quality ones? Look at the top left picture. It looks completely different from the 3DS version of the stage, in a good way. The level of detail in the shading, colors, and textures seems too good for an amateur. Those Smash Run pictures are suspicious, though…im 50/50 on this being true.

    1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

    2. You just made me realize that I did paid about $150 in Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS.
And I don’t know how to feel about it.

  3. I’m not convinced these images are real. I mean… they’re of everything we want – Smash Run with other players, the old Target Smash… It also seems strange how they would make Target Smash look exactly like Melee’s, like the same background and design. The only thing that would make it more fake would be Smash Tour online.

  4. Smash Run is a dead giveaway on the fakeness as the Wii U version does not have it so if it was a Wii U port it would have the the Smash Tour that no one uses except on one or two occasion, mostly once.

    1. Is it not possible SSB4 Switch gets all or at least most of the content from both versions together?

Besides, I’ll take Smash Run over the unfun clusterfuck that it Smash Tour any day.

    1. Yeah, I’d have to agree with you; Yoshi’s egg has different shading compared to Yoshi himself, Yoshi lacks a visible shadow where, if you look closely, the target on the top right platform has a bit of a shadow sticking out. Unless I have my angles wrong, or Yoshi’s eggs are actually just sprites, I don’t think the Target Stage pic looks real in the slightest.

On the contrary, I can’t seem to find much that screams fake in the 4-player Smash Run pic (possibly other than the splitscreen part); nothing particularly seems wrong with that picture; however, you can see Toon Link on Ness’ screen, while Ness isn’t even partially shown on Toon Link’s screen. This could be a difference in angles, or, more plausibly, laziness on the photoshopper’s part.

All in all, most of it doesn’t seem genuine, though there’s still a bit of hope that this whole rumor turns out to be true. Probably not.

      1. UPDATE: After a bit of research (such as looking through mods for Sm4sh Wii U), The Paper Mario Stage is actually starting to appear more genuine to me; there’s a lot more texture detail – and since I haven’t found a mod with this particular stage with these sorts of textures, this could be an EXTREMELY well-done photoshop or the real thing.

I also looked up the original 4chan page; I took a look at the comparison between the Paper Mario Stage above and its 3DS counterpart on Citra (not 1080p, unfortunately), and even if the stage were directly ported to the Wii U as a mod, it wouldn’t have the level of detail the leaked image showed right off the bat.

Still, I wouldn’t go all in just yet; that’s only one picture, and it could still be photoshopped for all we know.

  5. Remember when the entire roster legitimately for real leaked on 4chan and everyone was trying to say some dumb shit like “Shulk is just photoshopped little mac”

  6. To my eye, the shading looks quite a bit better than the Wii U version. Considering the Wii U was able to run that at 1080p60, they should be able to just use shaders that are twice(ish) as complex. Figure in TV mode, it would be outputting the same framerate and resolution that Smash for Wii U did but it’ll have roughly 2-2.5x as much shader performance and in handheld mode, it’ll be running at 44% of that resolution but with about as much shader performance as the Wii U.
