Take-Two Says It Will Be ‘Selective’ About The Games It Brings To Nintendo Switch

GameSpot recently caught up with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick to talk about a variety of things, and of course, the Nintendo Switch was mentioned. Zelnick says they are there on the console with the new NBA title for the platform, but they will be selective about which of their established games they will bring to the console.

“We believe in it. We see it the way [Nintendo does]; it’s been a very successful launch. It remains to be seen how it does, but we’re excited about it. Assuming there is an installed base, we’ll be there. Not with all of our titles, but selectively.”

  1. You know what the funniest thing about this is? I’m not entirely sure if everyone else has this, but on my screen there’s a list of related articles under this article, and one is titled “Take Two (Rockstar/2K) Will Have Sports & Family Games On Wii U, Not Sure About Hardcore Games”

    Deja vu huh?

  2. I lost all hope for the switch now, first no anouncment for farcry 5 on switch, no assassins creed(yet) no red dead redemption 2, no cod ww2 (oke they are working on it) no straitgh forward fifa 18, and now this, i get the wii u all over again, if the switch Will sell 60-80 million by the end of 2018, than we Will See gta 6 and those big games coming but if no AAA 3th party game is coming on full support, nobody Will take the switch seriously.

    1. Everybody is complaining about third party support, like if Nintendo needed 2K to sell hardware units.
Claiming that Nintendo needs EA or 2K is just like saying Microsoft needs Adobe or Autodesk to sell their OS. They don’t need nobody in particular, because they are powerful enough to create their own support.
The only thing they really need is selling hardware units, which they have historically done with no sweat without relying on anyone else. Wii U had a different problem, nobody bought it because nobody really understood what the point was. Switch has already surpassed Wii U by a large margin so, there will obviously be a LOT of people trying to bring software over. The only reason not to do so is if you hate making money.

      1. People won’t buy a product if the manufacturer does not provide any reasons to buy it. The sole existance of a product will not convince millions of people to buy it. The main reason to buy a video game console are the games it offers, because the whole point of a video game console is to play video games. A video game console without enough games will not sell. A video game console without a wide variety of games will not sell. A video game console that makes you wait several months before offering you something new to play will not sell. Denying that seems delusional to me personally.
The lack of a steady flow of games for the WiiU was without doubt one of its biggest issues, and that is because Nintendo was left on its own when it came to providing new software for the system, as 3rd-party developers decided to stay away from it for the most part. Nintendo simply can not produce enough games on their own to steadily offer regular releases.
There are far more than 12 million Nintendo fans, let alone people who have a good general idea about what’s up in the video game industry, out there, which means there are far more than 12 million people who were aware of what the WiiU actually was. They just didn’t want it. I honestly doubt that the confusion over the WiiU’s concept was a big contributor to its failure. I know it was a thing, but I just don’t see it being big enough to prevent millions of people from buying the system.
I also don’t think your PC analogy was a good one, but there’s probably not much of a point in elaborating.

    2. Wii 2, will sell a billion and be full of shit games, yet somehow the users will try to justify it isnt that bad because it sells a lot and not because it has the good games

as if they were the ones making money, shit happens when you release an underpowered console, all you get is shitty games so the third parties cash in

  3. We all know that NBA 2K18 is coming to the Nintendo Switch. What I really want to see from Take Two Interactive are WWE 2K18, Grand Theft Auto V, and (not possible, but a dream becoming true) the return of Bully.

      1. ???????????
How is GTA impossible on the SWITCH? That is a straight up lie. They can EASILY put GTA on the SWITCH. SHIT! The 3DS & PSP bith git GTA CHINATOWN WARS. & that is hands down my favorite GTA of all time.

        1. Pff please, GTA on the Switch? That’s impossible because Nintendo want games that are targeted for people of every age.

Anyway GTA isn’t fun anymore, and on the Nintendo Switch or 3DS there is already some sort of GTA in 2D that is muuuuuuch more fun then GTA.

    1. Exactly Dub, I kinda knew that every 3rd party game wouldn’t be on the Switch but if Take-Two’s ” selected games ” are GTA V, a new Bully title and the NBA 2K series then I’m cool with that

  4. I know this is gonna sound crazy but I think if they released Battlborn on the Switch and got permission to add Samus as a exclusive playable character Battleborn could actually thrive on the Switch. It’s not like it would have to compete with Overwatch on the Switch and the Switch would be the perfect platform where Battleborn could actually get the attention it deserves because it’s actually a really good game tbh.

    1. Maybe but let’s think for a minute.

If Overwatch is on the Switch, everybody will play OW and not BB. BB is already surpassed by OW and Paladins.

But bring the game on the system it’s not a problem of Nintendo, it’s a choice of the developers.

      1. What’s funny is, even though the OW devs said there’s no plans to bring OW to the Switch, if BB were to just pop up on the Switch I guarantee OW is going to follow behind instantly out of spite lol:D

        1. Yes I thinked that too. But let’s be honest. It’s just hard to see OW on the Switch.

But BB it’s not gonna happen. But who knows. Maybe it will at E3?

        1. Well, here’s what I think.

Jeff Kaplan says they targeted the game with low specs, so I think they have only tried to run the game with low graphics and don’t try to optimize the game . Second problem is the patch system, they have to publish patch for all the platform (PC,PS4 and XboxOne) add the Switch and there are 4 platform to check and that’s not easy because every platform have their process to control.

I also think is Blizzard headquarter that stops the work of OW on the Switch because Blizzard want always a game that work perfectly on Consoles and PC, and the Overwatch team is working on the story of the characters and new maps ecc.

In addition to this, yesterday I see a video of DigitalFoundry where they talked about Nintendo and Nvidia and I totally forgot that Nintendo still haven’t released the Supplementary Computing Device to the Switch and this device gives much more power to the Switch for both computing and networking. So maybe the possibilities for OW on the Switch there are, but it’s up to Jeff and his team to see what to do.

  5. I don’t expect companies like this to offer full switch support. The fan base hasn’t really supported their games on Nintendo. That’s because their games are multiplatform and people go for the best experience which has never been on nintendo. If your buying a switch it’s not for 3rd party its for 1st party. Of course they want more units to sell so that they can at least be willing to take the risk and gauge interest which they will be doing with 2k

          1. It’s what GTA was before 3. Point being, it’s not unheard of. Elder Scrolls doesn’t really “fit” either and is just as “bad” with all the murder n’ shit.

  6. All they gotta do isbring GTA to the SWITCH. Shit! I’d take a visually updated sequel of GTA CHINATOWN WARS. That came out on the PSP & THE DS. Awesome game by the way.

  9. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits. This use to be something that awaited those for all consoles. It's sad it's mostly just a PS4 slogan these days. Maybe Nintendo will get back to that greatness with the Switch. Only time will tell.}

Whatever the Switch gets from them doesn’t matter. Games like WWE 2k18 & Grand Theft Auto V would benefit the Switch but they aren’t games I’d buy on Switch. At one time in the past, I would have jumped at the chance to get these games on a Nintendo console. Now… I think I’ll just stick with them on PlayStation.
