Nintendo outlined major upcoming waypoints on the continuing journey that started with the launch of the Nintendo Switch system in March. This summer, Nintendo renews its commitment to fun multiplayer gaming anytime, anywhere, with anyone, with games like Splatoon 2, ARMS and Pokkén Tournament DX, the first Pokémon title for Nintendo Switch. Tournaments featuring all three games will take place this week during the E3 video game trade show, which runs through June 15 in Los Angeles. Later this year, Nintendo Switch owners will get to explore glorious new kingdoms with the Super Mario Odyssey game, the first 3D sandbox-style Mario adventure in more than 15 years. Visitors to Nintendo’s booth at E3 this week will be the first members of the public to get their hands on the game.
Today’s Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video featured new Nintendo Switch games for Yoshi, Kirby and Xenoblade Chronicles, plus new looks at key titles such as Super Mario Odyssey. The video also announced the development of the Metroid Prime 4 game and a Pokémon RPG for Nintendo Switch. “Nintendo Switch provides everyone a ticket for a journey to new worlds and fun, exclusive experiences,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “This journey continues through all of 2017 and beyond, and it’s one that video game fans of all types won’t want to miss.”
This year, Nintendo will see a constant delivery of great games for both Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, headlined by Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch system. Players roam massive 3D kingdoms to collect Moons to power Mario’s airship, the Odyssey. The kingdoms around the globe are filled with secrets and surprises. Mario can don a variety of costumes and interact with his environment in many creative ways, such as by driving vehicles or exploring sections as Pixel Mario. Mario’s new partner, Cappy, gives him new moves like cap throw, cap jump and capture, which provide a fresh take on the classic Super Mario formula and define this new adventure. The game offers new locales like the skyscraper-packed New Donk City. Three Super Mario Odyssey series amiibo figures – Mario, Princess Peach and Bowser in their wedding outfits – will be sold separately and as a three-pack when the game launches on Oct. 27. These amiibo can be seen in Nintendo’s booth at E3, alongside two new amiibo figures in the Super Mario series: Goomba and Koopa Troopa.
Other upcoming games for Nintendo Switch:
- Pokkén Tournament DX from BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and The Pokémon Company will let players take direct control of the prized Pokémon fighters to defeat other Pokémon in arena battles. With new fighters on the roster and new support Pokémon, this is the definitive version of the game, which saw a strong fan reaction to the Wii U original. Pokkén Tournament DX launches on Sept. 22.
- In Yoshi’s new game, players explore a huge world decorated like a miniature diorama. Each side-scrolling stage has the traditional front side as well as a back side that lets players explore the world from a different view to find new surprises. Yoshi’s new adventure begins in 2018.
- In the first mainline Kirby game for Nintendo Switch, the ever-friendly puffball can recruit enemies by hitting them with hearts to gather a party of up to four characters, or join with up to three friends* for co-op play. Kirby can even combine copy abilities to create combo attacks for defeating enemies and solving puzzles. This game will release in 2018.
- In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the latest entry in the acclaimed RPG series, a new hero will seek out Elysium on an immense journey through a new world. The game launches this holiday season.
- And in Fire Emblem Warriors from Koei Tecmo Games, players take control of favorite Fire Emblem franchise characters such as Marth, Xander and female Corrin, as well as new characters exclusive to this game. Players unleash over-the-top moves and strategize with the classic weapons triangle as they try to defeat hordes of fighters in a variety of areas, including some that are inspired by well-known Fire Emblem locations, such as Hoshido Castle. Fire Emblem Warriors launches this fall for Nintendo Switch, and will also be available for New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 2DS XL**.
Nintendo Switch will enjoy strong third-party support from some of the top publishers and developers in the industry. A sampling includes:
- Rocket League from Psyonix lets up to eight players* compete in a high-powered hybrid of arcade soccer and driving. The Nintendo Switch version of the game includes exclusive Customization Items and Battle-Cars. The game launches this holiday season.
- As a special treat for Nintendo fans, select items from The Legend of Zelda franchise will appear in the Nintendo Switch version of Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim when it releases this holiday.
- Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle from Ubisoft® is a playful mashup of the Mushroom Kingdom and the irreverent Rabbids. The turn-based combat adventure combines classic Mario characters and wonderfully hilarious Mario-themed Rabbids with fun exploration and gameplay. The game launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch on Aug. 29.
- EA SPORTS™ FIFA 18 delivers all of the action fans expect from the world’s most popular sports video game franchise, and now players can play the world’s game anytime, anywhere, in brand new ways with FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch. The game launches on Sept. 29.
Nintendo showed details of the upcoming DLC packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The two packs are available only as part of the Expansion Pass for $19.99. The first pack, “The Master Trials,” launches June 30, and the second one, “The Champions’ Ballad,” arrives during the holiday season. Nintendo also announced upcoming amiibo of the four champions from the game for release during the holiday season: the Goron champion Daruk, the Rito champion Revali, the Zora champion Mipha and the Gerudo champion Urbosa.
In addition to announcing Metroid Prime 4 in the Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video, Nintendo also announced during Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3 that a classic Metroid adventure would return, rebuilt from the ground up for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The Metroid: Samus Returns game is a modern reimagining of the 1991 Game Boy adventure Metroid II: Return of Samus. Intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran’s arsenal has been enhanced with new moves and abilities such as the powerful Melee Counter, 360-degree Free Aim Mode and mysterious Aeion Abilities. This intense, side-scrolling action-platformer has been completely remade with engaging and immersive 3D visuals and a rich, atmospheric color palette. The game launches on Sept. 15.

I can see it now, a vision.. A spreader of the disease runs out and buys the abomination called the Xbox One X … He gets home and ecstatically plugs it in.. He sits back and looks at it in awe. He continues to stare as if it’ll do something amazing! So where are the people talking doom and gloom about Nintendo’s E3 plans?
I liked Mario and Metroid obviously also the Zelda DLC and Pokemon depening on how it looks. If Pokemon looks something like the new dragon quest i’m happy. Other than that not much to talk about compared to Sony and Microsoft wich I liked way more : God of War, Horizon DLC, Days Gone, Uncharted, Shadow of the Colossus , Monster Hunter World, Detroit Become Human, Destiny 2, Cod 2 , Spiderman as for Microsoft : Metro Exodus , Assassins Creed, Anthem (!!!!!). I would buy most of these games over anything Nintendo has shown besides Metroid ofcourse and Zelda but thats just DLC. Not sure if I would buy these over pokemon my nephew and I spend over 5000 hours on those mainly during the GBA. If thats Doom or Trolling to you than so be it. Those are my honest feelings about this E3.

This is seriously the best E3 they’ve had in years. I know that’s not saying too much, but it’s still impressive. They’re doing a great job so far.
Good luck to everyone who will try to get those Zelda amiibo – best to be prepared the moment they go up for pre-order, because I expect them to go incredibly fast. And naturally Nintendo will only have a very limited supply as usual for Zelda amiibo….

In short my wallet is going to kill me. Nintendo really showed off this year. and in my o pinon showed that the Switch won’t be like the Wii U. Nintendo Won e3.
It ended up being better than I expected, but still under my passing score. IMHO, both Microsoft and Sony had much better presentations.
I was really hoping for Animal Crossing for the Switch. I am heartbroken.

Too much talking & not enough game trailers. Typical Nintendo E3 Direct. (As usual, Reggie prattled on & on about other crap so I ended up skipping maybe 5-7 minutes of the video.) So with that in mind, Sony’s E3 Showcase was better as it has me way hyped for 2018 & even for some of 2017. *shrug* Oh well. Least there were highlights from Nintendo’s E3 Showcase so it wasn’t as terrible as E3 2015 or even 2016. Anyway, on to my personal highlights!
Super Mario Odyssey: Glad it’s coming sooner rather than later. Hopefully I can get it & Assassin’s Creed Origins in October.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Love the art style. Some don’t but oh well. Less people to fight for the game over when it releases. lol
Metroid Prime 4: Should have died with Metroid Prime/Dark Samus, so we could have gotten an entirely new Metroid trilogy.
Core Pokemon game for Switch: Finally a true Pokemon game on a home console. (Sadly, it probably wouldn’t be happening if the Switch was just a regular home console.)
LoZ: BotW Champion amiibo: I want them! Therefore, let the war begin because these are most likely gonna be horribly stocked like past amiibo people were hyped for were.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Again, I better get Lyndis or I might have to seriously skip this no matter how much I want it or how much I like KT’s Musou franchise.
BotW DLC: Nice to see it’s coming a lot sooner than I expected. Hopefully DLC pack 2 will come just as quick. Of course, some things in the first DLC pack should have been in the base game. Like how the Korok Mask should have been a Sheikah Sensor. Now I gotta wear a boring mask instead of a more awesome item, like Majora’s Mask. Since there are over 900 Korok Seeds, you won’t get to enjoy wearing other headgear as you’ll have to keep the Korok Mask on at all times instead or miss the seeds. (I won’t get into the other shit that should have been in the base game as I’ve spent enough time on this part of my comment as is!)
***Things not in the E3 Showcase video, least that I saw, but I’ll mention them here just the same.
Metroid 2 Remake: I don’t see the need in the name change from Return of Samus to Samus Returns… (Unless the name Samus Returns has a double meaning beyond being just a game title…) I’m excited for it all the same, though!
Bride Peach amiibo: Since it’s a Super Mario amiibo, I don’t expect this to have bad stock… (Least I hope not, anyway…)

Though I haven’t actually watched the presentation yet, Just reading here about what was announced, there was nothing (unknown) that I cared anything about, except maybe the Yoshi game (I LOVED Wooly World) and the amiibo. A BIG, expected disappointment for me. Yet I saw several really cool games announced for the PS4 etc. There’s something very wrong about all of this. And this is coming from a Nintendo fanboy.
I wanted to hear about Animal Crossing, Pikmin 4, and maybe even a new Switch Mario Baseball and Golf. It’s been FAR too long since the last Mario Baseball and Golf game (3DS don’t count). And why no word of anymore HD remakes/remasters?
