Game Informer Says Metroid: Samus Returns “Looks And Feels Great On Nintendo 3DS”

One of the big surprises from this year’s E3 event was the announcement of not one but two Metroid titles. We’ve got Metroid Prime 4 coming in the future and also Metroid: Samus Returns coming on September 15th. Game Informer has played the game and came away with glowing impressions. The previewer, Kyle Hilliard, says that Nintendo had to “quite literally had to take the 3DS out of my hand in order to prevent me from progressing any further.” Here’s some further impressions!

“The game feels fantastic. Holding down the left trigger plants Samus’ feet so she can aim in any direction and the X button performs a melee attack that can counter enemy attacks. The prompts to counter are clearly broadcasted with audio and visual cues, and though I missed the first few prompts, it did not take long to block and blast nearly every enemy that I attacked.

As I mentioned before, I did not want to stop playing. The game plays smoothly, the new counter mechanic feels great, and the ability to scan the environment will hopefully help reduce those moments where you are exploring aimlessly without clear direction.”

  1. This game will be legendary and it will DOMINATE all competition just as zero mission, fusion and super that came before. Prepare yourselves as the prophecy dictates there can be only one alpha male in the video game industry…and that alpha male is motherfucking metroid boiz!!!!1!

  2. I sincerely hope they didn’t just announce Prime 4 for calming everyone’s mind down, so everyone would accept this title without too much “noise”. Smart move if they did.

    1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

      ||High Command isn’t that stupid, and if by some illogical probability they were, it would be the end of them because I would turn on them like I did with the Luminoth and we all know how it went for them…||

      1. Well, if Kimishima just wanted short term high income, to please the stock owners, before he runs away with his pension – this is one good way of doing it.

    2. Why wouldn’t people accept this title as is? Sure, it’s no Prime 4, but it’s a genuine 2D Metroid remake getting the Zero Mission treatment, and the original game was already a lot of fun. It’s nothing like that Federation Force garbage.

      1. I guess there are a lot of people that would fire up for anything Metroid that isn’t Prime. I played through Force Feb and I thought it was a good game.

  3. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4 & Nintendo Switch!}

    A bit of Other M’s gameplay will be in this remake!? HELL FUCKING YES!!! (Just… save the finishers, if they also returned, for boss fights.)
