Minecraft CEO Confirms Xbox Live Login On Nintendo Switch

It was heavily rumoured but now it is official, you’ll need to login to Xbox Live to play Minecraft online. The news was confirmed by Mojang CEO Jonas Märtensson who says that the account system will have you logging in to Xbox Live on Nintendo Switch for cross-platform play. Märtensson says “We needed a good system to connect everyone, and Xbox Live is a good system.”

We’re tying everything together with Xbox Live. So you log in with Xbox Live …

Even on Switch?

Yes. (Laughs) That’s pretty unique as well! But everyone that’s in on this, all the platform holders, have been pretty pragmatic and understanding of that what we’re trying to do is create a good experience for the players. We needed a good system to connect everyone, and Xbox Live is a good system.

    1. You don’t have to pay for two memberships. XBOX live is free. XBOX live Gold is the paid service. You don’t need the Xbox live Gold service to cross play from switch, just the standard Xbox live.

    1. So it begins Quadraxis…

You know it… I know it..
Hell, N-Dub Nation and that pathetic excuse of a fanboy knows it…

      Weapon X has been deployed..
The Olive branch has been offered though not as a sign of peace but a vow of servitude towards Lord Spence and what he has commissioned for Obinna the annointed one….

Soon the Nintendrones will be intergraded into the X-Bot hive and thats when the real fun begins… We shall not be “gentle” with the Kyoto whore… But she will be looking Phil in his eyes the way he likes it as she says Me love you long time…

He may even has use for you after all Quadraxis… Lord Spence is found of obsolete equipment.. It pleases him.

      1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

        ||Only your first 4 words are sufficient to satisfy me, as for the rest, you should know by now that my comment was not solely directed at this particular topic…||

  1. $60 subscription for one game? They better have a way for people to just use their active Nintendo subscription to access a limited Live account that just works with Minecraft.

      1. Short answer; no.
Long answer: you would need Live to log into minecraft, but Gold to access online in the first place from an Xbox One.
You need Live to log in, and Nintendo’s online subscription to play online in the first place from a Switch.

  2. A lot of people are mistaken…. read the article and interview…

You sign into your Xbox Live account… not your Xbox Live Gold account… there is a huge difference between the two. The first is free, the other is paid.

  3. What a clever idea. I’m not interested in Minecraft but if they did this with other games that would really benefit the Switch.

I’m laughing at people who are getting mad thinking they need to buy an Xbox Live Gold Subscription for one game.

  4. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4 & Nintendo Switch!}

I wonder if this is the real reason Sony doesn’t want to do cross console play with this game.

Basically, I’m saying Sony doesn’t want a rival console makers account system to be on their PS4.
