One game that I’m sure many of you are excited to play later this year is the sequel to the incredible Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for Nintendo Switch. IGN managed to catch up with Monolith Soft studio head Tetsuya Takahashi who explained to the publication that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is set in a completely different world from the original and features new characters and is basically a different game. However, they are connected in their play style. Here’s what Takahashi had to say about it:
“It’s a completely different world, with completely new characters. It’s a different game. The way I see it, I feel as though Xenoblade 1 and 2 are connected and linked in the sense that they’re linear and story-driven games, whereas Xenoblade Chronicles X was more focused on open world and exploration, and maybe an online aspect. I feel like I’d like to continue to create games separating those two aspects out.”
off topic:
The new look has been getting flack, but im digging it. I hated the flat ugly faces that XCX and XC had. they just looked bad. This one gives me a ‘Tales of’ kind of vibe.
You should talk only for the faces btw cause all the rest looks very bad…..compared to xenoblade on wii u..doesn’t even look new xenoblade on a new console if it is 1080p on dock mode and 30 fps ofc it is a good thing atleast. but these graphics if it is anything not in 1080p…well…fuck it i will buy it anyway :P
The faces looked flat and boring true, aesthetics looked way better in X through, still does not excuse them taking tales art style, when they could have opted for something more unique and stylize like FE is doing right now, I do not want to use this word, but X2 just looks so anime, you can clearly see is mainly targeted towards Japan unlike X.
If the game story/pacing is not on point, I fear it will be the first Xenoblade game that will score below average, there just nothing impressive about it.
Also, no mechas, fucking why.
He just explained how this is more of a “linear” game like the first one. Mechs don’t suit that type of game as well as they did X.
Probably because the word “anime looking” has gotten flack thanks to a certain idiotic meme.
I think the style is good for the game because it will allow it to age much better, however I do have a problem with it. The environments look very realistics and the characters look quite stylised, it doesn’t mix too well in my opinion.
If this is the case, I’m TOTALLY on board for Xenoblade Chronicles X2!
All the more reason I’m ok holding off. X is such a rich, in depth game. I’m happy soaking it in until the very end before starting on another Xenoblade journey.
And, personally I’m not a huge fan of the new design styles, but I’m sure they will grow on me when the time comes for me to start Xeno 2!
After my experience with Wind Waker, I never let an art style alone effect my opinion. Even if I didn’t like the art style, I’d still get this game in a fucking heart beat.
Yep. Same for me. Windwaker was a lesson learned for me also.
It mainly only applies to game series I love, though. xD
Did you know I met Kirby yesterday?
Here is the proof

And then he sucked me and became this

I love the art, did you draw this?
No no no I found it on google. Just type Kirby and D.va and you find this.
With the comments about how Xenoblade 2 is story based where as X is exploration and online play, I wonder if there will be an X2?
Please tell me they aren’t trying to turn Xenoblade into Nintendo’s exclusive Final Fantasy esque series where most games in the franchise aren’t connected by story & characters. (I was wanting The Last Story to be that since it & Final Fantasy have similar titles: last is the same as final & fantasy is a type of story.)
Anyway, for the people not liking this game because of the art style being too anime-ish, it’s in the JRPG genre so they should have seen this coming a mile away. If they are gonna pass it up because of the art style alone, in my opinion, it’s their loss.
