Many fans were disheartened to learn that Miiverse was disappearing on the Nintendo Switch and has yet to be replaced. Game Informer recently spoke to the team behind Splatoon 2 which had a huge Miiverse following. The game’s producer Hisashi Nogami said that while Miiverse implementation is missing from the game they will still allow players to post artwork on the ground and walls and send message to other players.
The implementation of Miiverse in the first Splatoon was sort of bizarre and interesting. You see everything from people leaving funny messages on the walls of your plaza to even conspiracy theories. Is there any sort of implementation of a sharing of messages like this in Splatoon 2 with no Miiverse on Switch?
Nogami: That’s a good question and it’s nice to hear that you enjoyed in Splatoon 1 the ability to post messages and artwork. Our idea with that feature was that after playing multiplayer, your plaza is populated with some of the people you played with and in creating this Miiverse functionality, it was that you weren’t just competing against these people but also that you were seeing what they are thinking and it’s some way to meet players indirectly and maybe see what the player base is thinking and create a sort of community atmosphere. This would mean that each time you enter the plaza, you would have some sort of update and some sort of change to the environment.
As you pointed out, while we don’t have Miiverse on the Nintendo Switch, we have made sure to allow players in the same way to post artwork on the ground and walls, or messages to other players. So I think players will be able to continue communicating in an indirect fashion and seeing what players from around the Splatoon 2 community are thinking.
Miiverse come back. It’s not the same without the incoherent nonsense you created with your existence!
Miiverse is old.
They can always make a new, less terrible one. The concept of social media on a game console is never a bad thing.

I’m glad Miiverse is gone. It was poorly executed. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea concept and people do really post cool and funny art. But the admins… Oh my Lord, the admins are really the worst. They’re the main reason why I hate Miiverse.
Well, miiverse bored the hell out of us. I’m glad it’s gone. I don’t hate it. I just lost interest in miiverse.
Something we can agree on. If the admins weren’t total trash, Miiverse would have been so much better. (Also, that update with all of the limits killed most of the social activity on there.)

As i said before, instead of getting rid of Miiverse, either replace it with a better social app or fix Miiverse to be less of a shitstorm of wrongful bans & deletions where any troll can just cry “I’m offended!” & boom! You are gone while the false reporter continues on his merry way to ruin another person’s good time on Miiverse. Sadly, Nintendo will do like the Wii U, take the easy & cheap way out, & get rid of it altogether. Worse case scenario: They’ll tie it to their stupid fucking smartphone app instead and change absolutely NOTHING! -.-

I liked the Miiverse…for the most part. Do I miss it? Honestly, no. I imagined Nintendo being & doing more interactive things with the Miiverse. Like updating the customization of your Mii.
Which they never did.
Other than that, it was pretty cool.
I liked it early on when I was playing a lot, posting screenshots and finding multiplayer options.
I think it had potential, and was quite enjoyable in Splatoon so I’m glad they’ll be implementing something.
