EA is taking a cautious approach with the Nintendo Switch as is evident by them only developing one game for the platform, the next edition in the FIFA franchise. Speaking to Games Industry EA executive VP of global publishing Laura Miele said that the company is looking closely at the Nintendo Switch and how it performs and are thinking about how they could bring other franchises to the platform .
“FIFA is the largest game in the business, so the offering and expansive footprint FIFA has around the globe will help connect Switch hardware to gamers as well,” [EA executive VP of global publishing Laura] Miele said. “So I think it’s a strong mutual partnership with Nintendo. We love the mobility of the Switch and I think the content they’ve put out is really strong on it so far. We’re going to continue to watch how the hardware does. We are exploring other products. We are looking at other IP and what the technology connections need to be for that.”
“There are technical differences, yes, but I think most importantly there are player differences,” Miele said. “When you have a game you’re playing on the go, it’s a different interface, different experience, different features, and different flow I think, then it would be if you’re playing on the sticks in your living room on a TV. So that design consideration always has to be taking place for our players.
“We never want to do just a direct port of something; we want to have a meaningful experience on the hardware. So it’s tech and design and user flow that we’re considering as we’re looking at future titles.”
Inb4 bitching.
||A direct port is better than the empty words you Electrons hurl around again and again…||
Switch ID!
||Since you have behaved yourself more than usual, you can find my code in my profile, go on ahead young one…||
Thx you master. i will be your best soldier.
Not likely :p
Commander. I sended to you my friend invitational. My code name is SP.
It’s becoming evident that this is yet another situation of lackluster 3rd party support. The switch will not receive the big name games. It’s just another nintendo machine. Fingers crossed, though.
I don’t understand why there isn’t more support. I feel like if EA released Battlefront 2 on the Switch, it would sell like crazy! Everyone that owns a switch is looking for more games, that would fill a gap, and there is already a large user base. I don’t understand how they can be skeptical after seeing how well it Is already doing
Of course it would, but why would they care? Most people who’ll have a Switch also have another console and will buy their crap there. This is just EA being EA, they’ve sucked for a long time now.
The Switch can’t handle Battlefront 2. It needs to run at 60fps so the downgrade would be too big. Don’t expect too much EA on the switch besides sports games. The switch is still mainly for Nintendo games and this time a lot of indie games too because of the portability factor and there’s nothing wrong with that. If you want more third party stuff then just get a refurbished ps4. They’re really cheap anyway.
So fucking true!
People need to relax. They haven’t had developer kits more than a year, and during most of that time, they had no idea how popular the Switch would be. Just because Switch hasn’t gotten every single 3rd party game announced at E3 yet, doesn’t mean it won’t.
Once they see that the Switch is still selling out at record paces past the holiday, and the SEVERAL 3rd party games sell well, and continue to sell well (the ones available) we’ll see a very different 3rd party presence at E3 next year. There is at minimum one huge launch title each month the rest of the year for Switch, and some are 3rd party like Rabbids, Sonic games, NBA2k18 among other larger Indi/3rd party titles like Oceanhorn.
July: Splatoon 2, Fate/Extella
August: Sonic Mania, Mario + Rabbids, Redout
Sep: Pokken Tournament DX, NBA2K18, FIFA 18
Oct: Mario Odyssey, Battle Chasers
(Fall) Nov/Dec: Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Sonic Forces, Skyrim, Fire Emblem Warriors, Rocket League
The system will be on fire heading into 2018. WIth these games, others coming by the end of the year, and early next year, and if a few rumors are true about MH and BGE, the Switch will be sitting pretty in the eyes of third parties. Lets hope in the mean time that we can add Dragon Ball Fighter Z to the list with petitions.
Hey, they sound like Reggie.
“Bla bla bla, dadada ditty bla.”
“Maybe, possibly, we care, we’re open minded”
“bla bla bla”
Empty Promises. #Fail.
Still, you can bet your ass I’m buying their games for my other gaming box! (depending on the game of course)
Well at least reggie wasn’t lying when he said we would see something of Metroid Prime 4 by next year!
His overlords fed him something useful to say. Its bound to happen now and again. :)
It’s becoming evident that the only company that will treat the Switch like a home console is Nintendo. Everyone else will treat it like a portable which doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Remember those exclusive versions of games that came out on Vita? Since the Switch will actually be successful maybe third parties should try that again.
Good point. With Nintendo building the install base this time around, and Switch being the most powerful, portable gaming system on the market, you’d think it could achieve what Vita was meant to (and more, obviously) – I don’t have anything overly against Sony, but if Switch did what the Vita couldn’t, I would be pretty embarrassed if I were Sony. At least the switch let’s you buy your own SD card, and doesn’t charge you for proprietary storage devices. I think that was the first, huge nail in Vita’s coffin.
And Switch was designed for TV play out of the box. I know there are one or two Vita fans here, so no offense to them, but the Switch does kinda make the Vita look like a half-assed attempt at HD portable gaming. I guess it was a good stab at it back in the day though given what they had. Sony just got TOO greedy and designed Vita to nickel and dime it’s customers to death. I’m not a Vita expert, most of that is just what I heard 2nd hand.
Vita wasn’t even really HD. Switch is the first HD portable.
As CEO of Nintendo of America, Reggie has no control over what happens concerning Nintendo in the United States.-Some Nintendo fanatic damage control excuse. You are gonna piss off his defenders, bro! lol Quick! We should hide before the Gestado (Nintendo Gestapo lol) appear!

Perfect! lol You never disappoint!
||My vision is undeniable…||
I am always surprised what people think might happen in an interview like that.
No company would announce anything big in an random interview, be it Nintendo through Reggie or EA or Sony or Microsoft or Intel….
If they have something big to announce they will do it in a big way, not through an interview which wouldn’t really make any sense in the first place.
If things like that are being asked in an interview they will answer with typical corporate talk like “we are thinking about it ” or “we have nothing to say yet” and there usually aren’t really any empty promises in there, they just don’t say anything in a pretty sounding way.
It’s just normal….
I understand what you are saying, but most companies say, “We can’t talk about that,” instead Reggie goes on this long-winded, hollow promise filled speech, when he should just say he can’t talk about something.
Hang on. They threw nothing but a few shoddy ports (minus NFS which was well made) at Wii U and complained. NOW they talk about actually thinking about things?
In other words “No Anthem, No Mass Effect, No Need for Speed, No NFL, No Battlefront, No Battlefield and No Skate”, we’ll probably just get Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 3 and yet another FIFA game, other then that, I have no hopes for EA support on Switch.
In other words, enjoy FIFA because that’s what’s up.
fifa doesnt even have team gyro controls like pes wii in 2006 A TOTAL FAIL EA i dont want PRE 2006 football i want cutting edge football on my switch
you do not get it at all do you EA….
i can remember EA saying you cannot do football on wi so we have introduced a top down look and GIMMICKS LIKE MOTION THROW INS
THEN PES WII HIT and revolutioned sport gaming and made the most hardcore chess like soccer experience ever made
give me intence switch optermized gaming EA not ports from CASUALSTATION 4 AND ITS 25 YR OLD CONTROLLER
this is 11 plus yrs ago for cying out loud !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
even if EA did put battlefield medal of honor etc, on switch THEY WOULD IGNORE THE GYRO MOUSE AND ITS SUPERIOR AIMING AND EXPECT US TO AIM WITH A ANOLOG STICK
LIKE A DOWN SYNDROME
Can’t handle a stick? Lol
This sounds
Unprecedented
“We never want to do just a direct port of something; we want to have a meaningful experience on the hardware.” And then there is Mass Effect 3: just a direct port. *shrug* Let me know when you fuckers make a new Dead Space.
Oh & the trilogy on PS4 along with Dead Space 4 would be nice, too!
Gamers are different… yeah, in fact nobody bought your Mass Effects, guess why? Because it sorted out on other platforms before and those SAME gamers didn’t want a duplicate of their already owned game.
EA is out of touch. EA is the past. Money spent on wine & bitc*es do this to a company.
||The Electron Army became corrupted back in 2006 for real, everything from that point was meant to cater to the delusional defective product worshipers…||
Even before, after the departure of Trip Hawkins. Those who took his software house destroyed it and closed many companies (like Origin). With Trip it was a very solid software house.
||Are you refering to 3DO incident?…||
Can we have BattleFront II?
Allow me to be the ice breaker:
E.A. is full of SHIT!! They’ve been FULL OF SHIT FOR A LOOOOONG TIME NOW! Lol
The reason they aren’t going full speed with the SWITCH is due to Nintendo’s approach to ONLINE. E.A.’s games are major heavy online support based. & while Nintendo has a good online service it is yet to be seen if they will rival SONY’s let alone M$.
Give E.A. a couple of years to see if they will actually make anything other than FIFA for the SWITCH. If you ask me NINTENDO will be lucky to receive the ever boring MADDEN. Lol
They’re showcasing NHL 18 at the NHL Awards tomorrow.
We’ll see if they actually intend on bringing it to the Switch.
To be honest, I don’t expect to see western support on Switch. Western companies already made their decision to ditch Nintendo.
You lost me at EA.
