Here’s A Better Look At The European Special Edition For Metroid: Samus Returns

Fans were delighted to hear that two Metroid titles were in development and even more pleased when they found out Metroid: Samus Returns for Nintendo 3DS will be released this September. Metroid: Samus Returns is getting a special edition in both North America and Europe, however the European version looks like the better of the two as it comes with the following:

  • The special edition of Metroid: Samus Returns includes:
  • A physical version of the game (the cover will not have any rating)
  • A download code for the original Game Boy game Metroid II: Return of Samus to be redeemed in Nintendo eShop
  • A SteelBook®
  • A sound-selection CD featuring 25 tracks from across the Metroid franchise
  • A gold “S” pin badge
  • A Morph Ball 3D keyring
  • A 40-page artbook

      1. I always used to claim that Europe got better Limited Editions solely because we did not have a Club Nintendo physical reward program, but now that that has ceased in all regions, I am not sure what the reason is…
I guess I can just count myself as lucky for living in the “right” region.

    1. hey now CDs aren’t useless you can rip them onto your computer and convert them to ACC files!

if your laptop still has a CD drive… D:

  1. Steelbook would’ve been better if the cartridge art was on it’s side, rather than upright and really awkwardly in the middle like that lol

    1. It’s Metroid and I’m feeling jelly since I live in North America. :( why don’t we get the full Metroid treatment? :'(

As usual, NoA is fucking cheap as hell with the bullshit excuse that they don’t want Latin America & Canada to be left out yet where was this bleeding heart at in the past? Now they suddenly care!? Meanwhile, the European edition is for the UK & 4 other countries, if not more. A damn shame the 3DS is region locked…

Hence why NoA’s excuse pisses me off.

    1. The Canada/Central America excuse won’t even work in this instance, cause North America is still getting a limited edition. It’s just far inferior to this one. I would love to hear Reggie try to explain why the U.S. is only getting a cd.

    2. The grass is always greener on the other side, sometime the NA version is better, sometimes the EU version is better. I’ve sat here plenty of time wishing I could’ve gotten the NA version instead of the european. It’s not “as usual” that the american fans are getting the short end of the straw. Most recent example: Breath of the Wild. There was exacly ONE limited edition for Europe and it included the Master Sword Satute and a Soundtrack CD together with the game, which is less than the smaller limited edition the US got + the US actually got a master edition as well.
Traditionally Europe has always been treated second class compared to the US, because the US is the bigger market and it’s harder to localize in Europe thanks to the amount of languages, ratings, approvals… Bascially you’re not really publishing something in Europe, you’re publishing it in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland…
20 years ago our games didn’t even get a translation, you better payed attention to your English classes, because it was English or nothing – and that was for the games that were actually published, because a great deal of games either never made it onto the european market or came much later. Getting games a year or two after the US was normal, we were basically happy if we got these game at all. Did you know Chrono Trigger, only arguably the best JRPG ever made, was first published in Europe in 2009? We had to wait 14 years to play this gem of a game, because it was never released on SNES or PS1, due to Nintendo assuming we europeans don’t like JRPGs enough to justify pumping money into localization.
BUT as soon as Europe is not getting treated second rate anymore, sometimes even gets games earlier than other territories or the more appealing limited edition for once, there’s always someone form the US who starts crying they’re getting always screwed. Yeah? You do? Well, please tell me which one was the only territory that got Pokemon Sun and Moon a week later, or Super Mario 3D World, or Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon, or Zelda Twilight Princess, or Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (an entire month). We’re still remembering the days when we were lucky if a game made it over at all, we’re greateful whenever we get at least a silmutaneous release so the internet is not full of spoilers and you guys have the nerve to complain that Europe is “usually” getting the better deal whenever you don’t get the best limited edition or the game releases a couple of days later in the US, when you don’t even realize how lucky and spoiled you actually are.

I think you might be misunderstanding me. I’m happy you guys are getting better treatment. It sucks you all got screwed for so long. Up til only a few years ago, I didn’t know half the shit I know today about how shitty other regions got it. I wasn’t into the political scene of video games til near the end of the Wii’s life when I wanted Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, & Pandora’s Tower. I want every region to get the same treatment because that’s what I ignorantly thought was the case growing up in the 1990s & 2000s.
