The grass is always greener on the other side, sometime the NA version is better, sometimes the EU version is better. I’ve sat here plenty of time wishing I could’ve gotten the NA version instead of the european. It’s not “as usual” that the american fans are getting the short end of the straw. Most recent example: Breath of the Wild. There was exacly ONE limited edition for Europe and it included the Master Sword Satute and a Soundtrack CD together with the game, which is less than the smaller limited edition the US got + the US actually got a master edition as well.
Traditionally Europe has always been treated second class compared to the US, because the US is the bigger market and it’s harder to localize in Europe thanks to the amount of languages, ratings, approvals… Bascially you’re not really publishing something in Europe, you’re publishing it in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland…
20 years ago our games didn’t even get a translation, you better payed attention to your English classes, because it was English or nothing – and that was for the games that were actually published, because a great deal of games either never made it onto the european market or came much later. Getting games a year or two after the US was normal, we were basically happy if we got these game at all. Did you know Chrono Trigger, only arguably the best JRPG ever made, was first published in Europe in 2009? We had to wait 14 years to play this gem of a game, because it was never released on SNES or PS1, due to Nintendo assuming we europeans don’t like JRPGs enough to justify pumping money into localization.
BUT as soon as Europe is not getting treated second rate anymore, sometimes even gets games earlier than other territories or the more appealing limited edition for once, there’s always someone form the US who starts crying they’re getting always screwed. Yeah? You do? Well, please tell me which one was the only territory that got Pokemon Sun and Moon a week later, or Super Mario 3D World, or Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon, or Zelda Twilight Princess, or Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (an entire month). We’re still remembering the days when we were lucky if a game made it over at all, we’re greateful whenever we get at least a silmutaneous release so the internet is not full of spoilers and you guys have the nerve to complain that Europe is “usually” getting the better deal whenever you don’t get the best limited edition or the game releases a couple of days later in the US, when you don’t even realize how lucky and spoiled you actually are.
