Animal Crossing fans will be delighted to hear that the mobile version of the game is still on track to launch this year. The news was reconfirmed by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in a recent interview with Waypoint. Reggie also said that development on the game continues at a good pace and that it will hit mobile devices in 2017. He also said that they will be sharing more information on what to expect from the game in due course.
So, specifically now, Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing development continues quite strongly, the teams are very excited about what they have. It’s an application that is going to launch this year, as we’ve committed. And we’ll be sharing more information in due course. We believe, just as we’ve seen with Pokémon Go, just as we’ve seen with Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, we believe that the application will help broaden the user base for Animal Crossing, and it’s going to end up having a positive impact on our dedicated video game business of Animal Crossing.

It would be so cool if they revealed a AC Switch game which would coöperate with the mobile game.

How should be interpret this? As we’ve committed for a release in 2017? Or should we see in those words the doom of Nintendo games on cell phones?
As in: we’ve committed we’ll do those specific game for cell phone, but after that we won’t be releasing any new IP for mobile.
I hope it’s not the latter.
What? I seriously doubt they’ll do that.
I don’t know. The fact that the Switch is a success will surely comfort Nintendo into thinking that they “still got it”.
They have a strong tendency of living on their cloud, and that nothing will happen to them. That makes them think that their formula was right all along, while in fact it’s totally outdated and they are just being lucky.
I hope mobile is really a long term strategy, and not just some safety net.
Whatever it is it won’t be a replacement for a real one the likes of the original, Wild World, or New Leaf.
And a mainline one should be the next AC after/alongside this mobile one, lest we have another fiasco a la Metroid 2 years ago. I don’t think I need to say anymore.
I want a SWITCH Animal Crossing game (a real one, not another turd like Amiibo Festival). I don’t give a rat’s patoot about mobile garbage.
