Spider-Man Edged Out Super Mario Odyssey For IGN’s People’s Choice Award

While Super Mario Odyssey received Game of the Show by the journalists over at IGN, it seems the readers have voted for Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4. However, IGN states that it was a close call between the two game which both look set to be fantastic. EA’s Anthem came in at third place while God of War entered at number four.

    1. You obviously did not see the presentation than lol , the combat for example was very refreshing for a spiderman game. Loads of websites and television programs said simular things about this game in my country. I trust there opinion more than some random dude on a nintendo website to be honest.

      1. Lol your an idiot of course Mario odssessy gets its inspiration from 64 and sunshine just like Spider-Man on PS4 gets its inspiration from the ps2 so both of these games bring something new to the table of course.

      2. Actually your the idiot for not reading , he mentiont that spiderman didn’t bring anything to the table and mario did while they both are pretty much the same game as the n64 and ps2 versions with some new mechanics.

    2. Spiderman games are always the same. Sure it looks nice but that is all that has changed. Ultimate Spiderman on the GC is the last one I played.

  1. Well, it’s the only game that I have ever gone “Aw, wish I had a PS/XBox whatever.” I do love Spider-Man, and always thought that his games had the greatest potential to be fantastic.

  2. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch!}

    I can’t wait to get that Spider-Man game. I’m more excited for Assassin’s Creed Origins, though, and is my personal game of E3. I’ll most likely, hopefully, be getting Super Mario Odyssey, too. *crosses fingers & hopes the Switch gets cloud storage for paid online, the ability to have extra copies of my save data on Micro SD Cards, and external hard drive support* Til I get at least 2 of these things on Switch, I’m gonna hold off on my Switch purchases til next year when they finally fully reveal paid online. Hopefully along with other stuff, too, that I’d like to have on Switch.

  3. I’m not even into superhero games. And I only just recently watched the Tobey Maguire Spiderman trilogy (which I didn’t care too much for. Didn’t care for any of the actors for one thing). But I can’t deny, this was the first Spiderman game that actually looked interesting to me. Don’t know if I’ll ever buy it, but it looked interesting. Super Mario Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins are at the top of my MUST BUY list at the moment.

    1. I’m kinda with you on that. I have a hard time getting into super hero games. I love the movies, but I think the last super hero game I played was Spiderman…on the ATARI. Yes. I said Atari bitches! I was web-slinging when you guys were in kindergarten!

        You old, mate! lol My last Spider-Man game was that shitty port of Spider-Man 3 for the Wii. Spider-Man 2 for the second Tobey Maguire Spidey movies was way better. I also think it was my very first open world game, too! My first best experience with the open world genre. Spider-Man 3 on Wii would be my worst. lol

  4. I’d say my game of E3 was probably Battlefront II. I’m really happy with all the changes EA and Dice made from the first one. Can’t wait to play it. Everything else was either unsurprising or underwhelming. It was a pretty meh E3.

    1. Battle Front wasn’t my only game, but I am also very happy with what they are doing. I skipped the first, I’m excited to give the second a try do long as they don’t fuck it up!

        So far, my worst PS4 game has been Star Wars Battlefront from EA. I’m just not into a game comprised of mini-games which is exactly what it was. (Yeah. This means I have not nor ever will play a WarioWare game!)

        1. Yeah, what an epic disappointed. I was DO hyped for Battlefront. As soon as I got wind something was off, I Held off, I’m so glad I did. I remember because Battlefront was going to be my first game on a non-Nintendo console as I was JUST deciding which box to buy.

            Luckily, I got that Darth Vader PS4 bundle so I kind of got the game for free. Still, I count it as a purchase since I was also buying the bundle for the game. In a way, it’s a bit my fault as I went in expecting Star Wars Rogue Squadron levels of awesome. Still, the game would have sucked for me even if I wasn’t expecting Rogue Squadron.

            1. the Darth Vader PS4 Bundle looked amazing. I had it pre-ordered and then cancelled last minute. I kind of regret it because the console look so f****** awesome, but since my technological ecosystem is centered on a PC environment the Xbox really made the most sense for me.

      2. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch!}

        Then again, it’s the only real bad game I actually got for PS4. lol

      3. It’s definitely not the only game I’m excited for. I’m actually looking forward to most of the big games that were shown, but no other game comes close to Battlefront for me. After the 2005 Battlefront game, I waited years for another one. Finally, ten years later, a reboot was announced. I can’t remember ever being more excited for a video game. Subsequently, I can’t remember ever being so dissapointed in a video game. After everything that was screwed up in the first one, I honestly thought the seires was doomed, and I would never get the game I wanted. So with everything that seems to have been improved, this one has my full attention.

  5. I’m really excited for the new Spider-Man game. The gameplay demo was pretty much the only time I really felt excited during Sony’s presentation. It’s not too often I see an adaptation of an adult Peter Parker outside of the comics (and I don’t mean an adult pretending to be a teenager like in the movies). Yes, his high school years are the highlight of the character, but I really want to see him grow up and become a tech genius with Parker Industries rivalling Stark Industries in some adaptation or another. Plus, I love that they’re using relatively obscure Spider-Man villains like Mister Negative and Kingpin (err, this one was pretty obscure up until Daredevil came out) rather than just focus on the most recently used or upcoming movie villain.

    Though, my most excited-for games is probably Battlefront II, with Super Mario Odyssey a close second. If Spider-Man was coming out this year, it would take first…

      1. O.O Well. There’s really no way to follow a statement like, “He has a T Rex.” That’s kinda how a conversation ends. XD

      No, no. Nintendo said it’s called “capturing.” Possess & possession are bad, bad words. We mustn’t offend anyone with such words.

  6. At least it didn’t lose to a crappy game. I’ll probably end up buying this new Spider-Man game, Insomniac usually makes great games. Definitely looked to take a lot of inspiration from the Arkham games.

    I just wish it was out this year. Kind of a dry rest of the year for my PS4. Only 2 games I’m wanting, mayyybe 3 (still conflicted about Sonic Forces).

  7. Honestly don’t get what people see in that Spiderman game. Looks more like watching a film than playing a game most of the time, with constant slowdown and cinematic angles totally breaking any immersion. No thank you, not for me anyway!

  8. Just another reason I don’t value their opinions AT ALL. :)
    I mean sure, Spider-man looks rad, but Mario Odyssey is a major step up for Mario games, it’s revolutionary in that way. Plus MOST everyone else thought that it looked amazing. But of course, IGN needs to be ‘Unique’ and ‘Different’ (they’re not and never have been though.)

  9. Spider-Man looks awesome! Superhero games are one of the main reasons I bought my PS4 so I’ll most likely end up picking this game up when it comes out. I can’t wait!

    But I’m also pretty excited to see what all Super Mario Odyssey brings to the table. So many good games, so little money lol

  10. I’m a HUGE Spider-fan. Have a decent collection including the Night Gwen Stacy died. I listen to a Spider-Man podcast. I briefly wrote for a Spider-Man fan site.

    I got a PS4 with the release of Destiny, and while I like the hardware, the platform’s been a big disappointment for me. It’s been mostly a dead console generation, with AAA gaming costs finally having been driven so high, many 6-8/10 level games just can’t afford to exist anymore. So when my PS4’s hdmi port broke late last year (a fairly common problem I found out), I didn’t plan on getting it fixed. Well those plans have changed. There is ZERO chance I am missing this Spider-Man game. Other than using Dan Slott villains, and that white bit on the costume, it looks perfect.
