Nintendo is probably celebrating right now as it has emerged that their latest system, the Nintendo Switch, has sold one million units. That’s not bad going at all for a country that many declared home consoles were dead in. While it hasn’t reached the one million mark as quickly as the Wii in Japan it has still beaten the Wii U by a decent margin. Here’s how the console has fared in Japan over the same period:
- Switch: 1,000,000
- Wii U: 820,000
- Wii: 1,850,000
Is that 1m sold this month or 1m sold for the entirety the Switch has been out in Japan?
Total figure
The entirety, as in since launch.
kalas..
you, son of a bitch..
we need to damage control this ASAP
More like you need to. You are the Microsoft guy after all. Your favorite console is the one doomed to get it’s ass kicked when & if Switch takes off like a rocket. The PS4 will be fine. Even if it was gonna get it’s ass kicked too, I’d welcome it as I want the Switch to succeed.
don’t be a bitch, your beloved obinna is now a pony just like you, you know it.

Thats pretty damn impressive. It beat the wii U’s numbers in less than 3 months. DAMN!
Never mind. Miss read the last sentance.
Remember the system shortages for Japan, I’m sure that without those shortages, the sales had been better, much better ( sorry, English is not my native language)
What I’m hearing from friends across Japan is that the shortage isn’t really that bad. Most places have it in stock and have had it in stock since launch. I have a buddy that buys a new one every week at different stores and resells them there because people assume they’re out of stock. lol
Also, Wii had massive shortages as well but it sold almost twice as much. With that said, Switch is still doing well.
Not bad. It seems like the Switch is suffering more from stock shortages than the Wii did. I wonder how it’d be doing if the stock wasn’t an issue.
I remember the Wii was nowhere to be found after launch.
The same is happening with the Switch. In every major retailer here in Houston there are nonexistent. Just as those systems come in stores those systems sell out with the quickness
I think that’s how it is just about everywhere in the West.
The same is happening with the Switch now. The difference is that Nintendo may have stocked more than the Wii at launch than they did the Switch. It makes sense that Nintendo would have expected the Wii to sell more, so they produced more of them. After all, the Wii was released during the holiday shopping season and Nintendo was fairly certain they had a hit on their hands. The Switch was released in March and Nintendo seems to have been unsure of how well it would sell.
I think the shortages have played a part… But there’s also the case that the Switch is a more expensive console than the Wii was.
Great news…..

How long did it take for PS4 to reach 1M over there?
I just remember that Wii U was occasionally out selling it week or 2 after it’s release.
