To celebrate the upcoming release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild downloadable content pack, The Master Trails, the director behind the game will be discussing various aspects about the first DLC pack. Today’s update sees Hidemaro Fujibayashi, Director of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, discuss the brand new Korok Mask. You can read the full blog post, right here.
“Koroks are hiding all over Hyrule in this game, and the Korok Mask is a new item deeply related to these hidden creatures.
There are many suspicious locations in this vast world of Hyrule. So during development, we started saying things like, “It would be fun to discover something if it were placed at a location like this, don’t you think?” Initially, we placed some random rocks in spots like these, just as an experiment.
But as development continued, we concluded that simply placing rocks somewhere isn’t intriguing or challenging enough to be rewarding, even if you were to find them. Instead, we suggested hiding some small creatures there for the finding. So that’s how these Koroks, who would normally only live in Korok Forest, ended up scattered across remote areas of Hyrule.
Now, let’s get back to the Korok Mask. It isn’t something that exists simply to give you a taste of the Korok life when wore. If you walk by a hidden Korok while wearing it, it will actually shake to clue you in about it! This mask will help you find many hidden Koroks, so I hope you will enjoy using it.”

I’ve actually thought about that. It could’ve been your reward for getting the 441 seeds needed to fully expand your inventory making the rest of them easier to find.
I really wish they would have implemented more Masks in the game for whatever use. But so far I’m enjoying trying to find them, the puzzles are fun to figure out.
I can’t wait to get my hands on Majora’s Mask and gear.
Imagine if the fierce diety mask was functional instead of ornamental.
Dude, I thought so hardcore that the Mask Salesman would make a return and be a key character.
I wanted so badly for masks to make a big return.
But yeah, it would have been cool to get it again and NOT be able to use it lol…

Finding all the Koroks isn’t exactly rewarding either.
Expanding your weapon/shields/etc isn’t rewarding?
I’m so thankful for it after how fast some weapons break, while I feel some weapons should last longer in battle, it’s not an issue.
You need 441 to max your inventory. There are 900 koroks in the game. Finding all of them gets you literal shit.
As much as I like it, I would’ve preferred just being able to scan a Korok and use the Sheikah tracker to find them lol. Sacrificing an armor slot is a pain.
Very useful, I only have around 300 seeds last I checked so this could really help me out getting the rest. :]
