We’ve heard rumours that a SNES Classic retro-based console like the NES Mini is coming this holiday season. Online gaming publication Destructoid claims to have heard further information about the device from a handful of GameStop managers. These managers claim to have been shown off the device in a private meeting with Nintendo. The SNES Classic is apparently due this holiday season.
“Yes, there is going to be a SNES Classic. No, it does not have a release date. No, Nintendo would not confirm that a N64 Classic would be coming next year. With these plug-and-play systems, they want headlines and foot traffic, dude. The Switch and the 3DS sell great, but if you want to get the normies out there to take a break from their regular Facebook and YouTube routines and do a Google search for ‘New Nintendo system,’ or actually walk into the Nintendo section of a store like this, you have to pander to that lowest common denominator with nostalgia.”

I used to be a GameStop manager. Working there long enough to become a store manager makes you an incredibly jaded and sad person.

Personally. I think it’s better not release a SNES classic and here’s why:
– If we have the online services for the Nintendo Switch, we can play old games on the Switch and you can play on the go. Creating a SNES classic gives to you a constraint to play in house. I hope these rumors are false because I don’t think Nintendo want the same problems as the Nes Mini.
They could do both. Don’t know if they will, but they could.
Probably, but for me it’s better to focus on the new system than going back and release something that already was released in the 1992.
I’m a Nintendo fan and I love what Nintendo has done from the Nes to today but I it’s better to think about the future of the Switch instead of the classics.
Switch has the dna of all the Nintendo consoles, now we don’t see it but in the future this will happen.
Hopefully we get news soon on what they are going to do.

Everyone knew it was coming, I called it back when they announced the NES mini…
They (Nintendo) kinda had to do this because of how quickly the NES Mini sold out and how massively popular it got. The SNES is heavily regarded as the greatest gaming console of all-time so them bringing out the SNES Mini makes a lot of sense……..especially from a business perspective. I know that some people may think that this isn’t really a smart move on Nintendo’s part now that the Switch is on the market (and given how great it’s been selling thus far) but this is ideal for the gaming ” collectionists ” out there who just want some gaming nostalgia. I saw this coming from a mile away but it’s good that more and more clarification about it coming is being reported. I want and need this but my wallet will be bleeding badly given the many great titles that are slated to release for the Switch this year. That SNES Mini is a sure fire day one purchase for me

I could careless this better not be the main reason for online voice chat and getting free nes and snes games delay they even said on there website they had to consider adding snes games though which make me think there only doing at because there making snes classic better

Judging by the NES Classic, it’s anything but the lowest common denominator. In fact, the sheer desire by everyone else probably meant the LCD never even got one.
