Japan: Nintendo Switch Sells 22K And Nintendo 3DS Sells 14K

It is Wednesday which means it is time for the Media Create sales figures from Japan. For the first time in a while the Nintendo Switch has been dethroned by the PlayStation 4 this week. I’m not entirely sure what Nintendo Switch stock is like in the land of the rising sun but that could possibly have something to do with the upturn. ARMS remains at number one but it is very closely followed by Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood. Here’s the best-selling software and hardware in Japan:

    P2. Well, all streaks must come to an end. Looks like the Switch may be falling behind all over the world. It’s tough to tell how much of this is due to stock shortages.

      The Switch has never gotten below 20k sales in a week anywhere, and it’s all due to shortages. While it’s unrealistiearc to think it will ALWAYS outsell the PS4 (technically it did, just not when you combine Pro sales) it’s also silly to think that one week where it didn’t outsell the PS4 in Japan, suddenly translates to “falling behind” and is some sort of crisis. The Switch will not be in stock the rest of the year. There are too many huge games each month the rest of the year, and the Switch will be the hot holiday toy, along with SNES mini. The Switch is still outpacing nearly every console that came before it in sales, WITH shortages in stock. It would easily be outpacing Wii if it had enough stock, and possibly even the PS2.

        1) At no point did I act like this was some sort of crisis. I only stated facts as I understood them.

        2) PS4 and PS4 Pro must be combined. They are the same system. They play the same games. In terms of functionality, neither does anything that the other can’t. Treating them as different systems would be like treating the 3DS and new 3DS as different systems.

        3) It’s silly to think that I based my comment on one week of sales in Japan. I’ve been following sales data since launch. PS4 has been periodically outpacing Switch globally since mid-April; and Switch sales are substantially down overall.

        4) I previously amended my original comment with a follow-up comment stating that stock shortages are clearly a big issue.

        Finally, and this is completely unrelated to the conversation, would you happen to be an investor? Just curious.

      ps4+ps4 pro do the maths idiot Switch is already lost to ps4. on this early stage of its life.
      PS4 and PS4 Pro outselling all 3DS versions(and Switch too). That’s the reason the main Monster Hunter is coming for PS4. and the rest. cause Nintendo is only for mario and cartoon graphics.

        You can’t sell stock if you don’t have any. Nintendo has to make a system before they can sell it. It’s still sold out in Japan everywhere it’s still hard to find in North America or at least I can’t fine any. The only place the Switch is failing in Europe which Nintendo has never done well there. You Monster Hunter is coming to the Xbox and PC too right because Sony had to pay Capcom and forbid a Switch version, but didn’t care about an Xbox or PC version. Sounds like Sony is running scarred to me.

        You’re telling me to do the maths, this coming from someone who heads over to a Nintendo site with very little in the way of any basic English grammatical skill and even less in brain capability to lead a one-man charge in defence of the PlayStation 4; a console which, most of us here have as well as a Switch since playing good games doesn’t mean you’ve got to be fiercely loyal to one platform, man. You’d do well to remember that.

        Aww boo hoo.. only cartoon graphics wah wah. Worthless troll. The Switch is capable of running PS4/XB1 ports, hardlly equating to only able to run cartoony graphics. It’s vastly more powerful than PS3, and it obviously had realistic looking games, so nice try.

        Did Nintendo touch you inappropriately when you were a kid, or do you just get your jollies on trolling Nintendo fans? I mean, low self esteem is a real bitch, or so I’m told, and I would almost pity you, if you had any real skill at trolling, and understood business, supply and demand, etc.

      Learn what stock shortages are.

      FFXIV just had a huge update, causing PS4 to have a sales bump. Switch will be right back on top next week. Pathetic how many weeks you must have been waiting to jump on this.

      Also, maybe some day you will realize that all the games that so far weren’t announced for Switch like Asassin’s Creed Origins and such, were in development before the Switch was made, before kits were available, and before anybody KNEW for a FACT the Switch was a huge hit. Now that the sales are there, and the development kits have been around, 3rd party games will be coming. You’re a complete moron if you think those games can’t run on the Switch, as the Switch is already running the latest and most powerful game engines (or capable of running ones as stated by developers) like Snowdrop, Hedgehog 2, Unity 4, UE4, Frostbite. It doesn’t matter if the game is cartoony or realisic. If it uses any of those game engines, or others of similar specifications, (those are all top tier btw) the Switch can run the game. Sorry to burst your troll bubble.

        They must downgrade the game like HELL
        and also they must work with 2 versions of the game like portable and a better version with dock mode +all these HD rumble and motion controll gimmick shits to put and all this FOR WHAT?
        FOR what exacly? No1 will buy the New Gta or the new witcher on the switch. Because EVERYONE knows The Nintendrones will keep buying only mario and cartoon games cause the majority is just casual gamers. LOL look how many hardcore games Wii u have like HOW many?     Nintendo seems to send more Switch out during the week of a big game release. I remember the Switch sold 40K the week of Mario Karts 8s release then the next week it sold only 20K, so my guess is the next big jump will be late July with Splatoon 2.

    so many haters in here. lol 1. Nintendo just apologized last week about low stock and said more stock will be coming soon. So obviously that’s 1 big factor why ps4 is close at all. 2. Nintendo haters ignore the fact that 3ds is beating ps4 pro by itself. 3. Nintendo Switch RULES!

      Not to pour too much water on that argument but 3DS and Pro is a $200 price difference and seen as a upgraded console version of the base product competing in a handheld market.

      With that said I love my Switch and PS4 so gaming on multiple consoles I don’t tend to sway any one way. I’m also pretty sure stock issues are affecting the Switch..as said above let’s hope Ninty has plenty of stock for the Splat2 release
