IGN France Says STEEP For Nintendo Switch Is In Trouble

IGN France is reporting that sources have informed them that Ubisoft is having trouble bringing STEEP over to the Nintendo Switch. The open world extreme sports game wasn’t showcased or mentioned for the Nintendo Switch at this month’s E3 event in LA. The source has told IGN that Ubisoft is having so much trouble porting STEEP across to the platform that Nintendo have stepped in to offer some much-needed help. The source even goes as far as to say that STEEP may not come to Nintendo Switch altogether and could be canned on the platform. We shall have to wait and see what happens!

      1. …..Steep is like a modern 1080°?

        F**K OUTTA HERE!!lol

That bullsh*t is NOTHING like 1080° off N64 or Gamecube!!
…”didn’t your mommy teach you to say NO to drugs?” because you must be on either dope or dog food to think Steep is ANYTHING like 1080°! Lmao

    1. 1. some people like snowboardgames
      2. Some people see this as a use case of an open world game getting ported over to the Switch. And with some people I guess this includes also publishers of other companies who would like to publish on the Switch but aren’t sure if it’s possible to create a version for that system out of a PS4 game.
      3. Such a release wouldn’t hurt. Maybe you don’t hear from it now and maybe it’s not Ubisoft’s biggest release, but when it launches, they’re gonna advertise it and if the Switch would be on board, some people would be like ‘wtf, that system’s capable to do that?’. So even for people who aren’t interested in this game, it would be quite an advantage if it’d be released there.

    1. I agree. A game such as that would work quite well on the Nintendo switch because no one has to play a south park in 4K.. Also it would be fun to see what Trey Parker and Matt Stone could do with some Nintendo imagery in the game. Even at 720p it would be completely playable because paper cuts outs in 1080p would not look any sharper., as well as the fact that South Park is not desired to be running at 60fps.

I own a Switch & I agree with him. Most of the games on Switch are mostly filler content at best. Who wants to watch an anime with only 3 canon episodes while the other 20 or more is filler?

This is alarming if this game is high maintenance as it could effect other games from Ubisoft coming. Look at the bigger picture those of you all shrugging this off.

    1. its a problem. BUT, if the switch gets a huge installbase, the power of the console won’t matter because the money is more important for 3rd parties at that point.

      1. Exactly! There might be some games that won’t come regardless. But a larger install base will help!

    2. The Mario Rabbids cross over should have more impact over games coming to switch than this game.
But all in all, this doesn’t bode well for the Switch. It can really use more games… Cos Rocket League and Mario Rabbids are the only major 3rd party stuff coming…
At least Ubisoft is trying.. .unlike capcom that claim to support Nintendo but bring ports of old games while their newer IP refuses to come to the Switch, even though the console is powerful enough to run it

    1. This pretty much picks up where SSX left off (the reboot from a few years ago.) And does it better. Hopefully it does come, it wpuld be such a shame if it didnt.

    1. It is true and the game would be just as good and could be even better. Nintendo does not themselves make simulation type games for this reason as it allows them to get more creative to get the most out of their consoles “lack” of power. You could also argue that they design the consoles because they plan on making games that only need a certain amount of power but either way…. i agree, problem solved

I wonder how many people are gonna come here & diss this game because it might not be coming to their precious Switch but were probably hyping it up before this.

“Ooh! I can’t wait for this 3rd party game!” *Sometime later.* “It’s not coming to Switch? Fuck this game!” lol

      1. lol I Don`t think anybody cares about steep I forgot it was even coming to the switch ubisoft just needs to get some decent third party games that most people know about and if they there trying to release a sport game for the switch they should go with something better.

        1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch!}

Actually, there are a few in this article that do want this game for their Switch or would gladly get this on Switch instead of PS4 for the portable aspect of the console.

    2. Oh No.
      No.
No. No. No. No. No. No. No my friend. I played steep before & it sucked to me. If you wanna give me a snowboarding game then give me SSX instead.

      1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch!}

The last SSX game EA let get released was back in 2012, so it doesn’t look like a new one of that is coming any time soon.

  3. Hopefully they get it running well. If they don’t, it’s not a good sign for things to come. Worst case scenario is that it’s a graphical issue. The system not being powerful enough for 3rd party games within its first year would be terrible news. Ideally, the problems they are having is specific to Steep and won’t necessarily hinder other games. Otherwise, the Switch will be in trouble (regarding 3rd party games at least).

    1. Seems like it’s an error with the game rather than the engine as Ubisoft has already got it up and running on the Switch with Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle using the Snowdrop Engine.

Might have something to do with the ARM Cortex CPU as it’s not based off x86 which this game was probably built around. At least Nintendo has decided to chip in to help out.

  4. while i dont care about snowboarding games, if this games still ends up on the switch by some miracle then i may buy it to support ubisoft which tells them that this game is not sh*t unlike just dance which is sh*t, also looks very interesting.

  5. when will nintendo learn how to make a real console again. Lets turn our console into a handheld and compete with ourselves. what a bunch of f’ing idiots. you can bet they’ll release another real portable to go along side this pos.

      1. His standards are in check u need to lower your standards gaming fan (8 year old boy) . I recommend obtaining the Super Nintendo classic mini that is more of Nintendo’s best games

    1. Unless Switch struggles after 2 years on the market I doubt they release a new dedicated handheld.

    2. You are obviously 8 yrs old. So you have only lived through the current generation of consoles.

Which means you probably only see e importance of graphics in games. Which is completely wrong.
First of all, the Switch is extremely powerful for its size. Look no further than current mobile phones and tablets. They are small, but heck can they be do a lot. Technology has moved to a point where the possibilities are much beyond that of yonder years.

The Switch uses the current technology to its fullest. It is far more powerful than PS3 and Xbox 360, and is not that far behind the original Xbox one and PS4. Which is a mighty achievement.

I am so glad that Nintendo don’t follow suite with this stupid current console wars, where it’s all about power and online play! Not all games need to be hyper realistic grapghics and don’t need to have online functionality. For a large part of it, they are pretty well balanced with how games should be.

Games need variety, not some stupid CoD or FIFA clone, that homogenises the gaming industry. Hence why I think Indies are becoming so popular, as they have a larger variety, and don’t flop during development due to rediculous costs. 80% of AAA developers went out of business for this exact reason during the 7th gaming console generation. And now they are playing it safe, and re-releasing the same thing every year, so they don’t break the bank.

The Switch is not the same as the other handhelds. The handhelds like the 3ds or Gameboy colour, are cheaper, and a lot easier to port around. There is no reason that it should compete against itself for the majority of the market. Take any piece of technology and there are tons of varieties that coexist very well. I have a 3DS and a Switch. The Switch is more a one console per family, whilst he 3DS is very good for individuals like children. I grew up on my Gameboy Colour, the SNES and PC. However my gameboy got more playtime. I have had most consoles (except Xbox, despite playing all 3 of them still). Now I’ve matured I spend or plan on spending more time on the Switch and PC.

So shut up, and drink your milk before you start making rash judgements when you have clearly not even lived through a full gaming generation cycle to see what games once were and how they have improved.

    1. #Snakepass
      #RocketRacer

Indies have been saying that. We’ve yet to see an easy port of a large scale, 3rd party game yet… I don’t think anyway.

There is Skyrim, but anything can run that version of the game because it’s been out for a long time.

  6. The console is still pretty young in itself, I doubt not even Nintendo knows how to pull its maximum potential yet sadly, my guess is that they want to target 30FPS with decent graphics, but is only yielding around 20FPS wich, to be honest, it would really ruin the experience on this kind of game, don’t give up Ubisoft!.

  7. so whats coming to the switch next year? yoshi and kirby which are just sidescrollers. a new fire emblem. no idea when metroid is coming out. same with pokemon even though I dont care about it. no release date for octopath traveller.

all the switch games I want this year I have on the wii u. This console is even more of a disaster than the wii u imo especially if you own the wii u.

    1. A). There care exclusives coming to Switch such ARMS , Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Super Mario Odyssey (none of these games u can find on Wii U).
B). “In computers, resolution is the number of pixels (individual points of color) contained on a display monitor, expressed in terms of the number of pixels on the horizontal axis and the number on the vertical axis. The sharpness of the image on a display depends on the resolution and the size of the monitor.” I just assumed because u were complaining about Switch isn’t a real console (which it is a real console ) u were one of these people that loves graphics, so that part was my bad , but u should do some research before arguing about anything.
C). It is traditional that a hardware company such as Nintendo, to begin developing a new console. They said the same thing at the beginning of the Wii u’s life (which I traded mine in to buy a Switch ).

    2. Oh, your Wii U has super mario odyssey? Splatoon 2? ARMS? Fire Emblem Warriors? Xenoblade 2? No it doesn’t
Also there’ll be more announced for next year but MOST of the big first party games from Nintendo this year are Switch EXCLUSIVE
you’re full of shit because it’s not

            1. I thought it was port until I saw more of it which it’s different from splatoon 1. At least Nintendo isn’t changing us $60 ($20 a year) , and also that won’t happen until next year.

                1. The money helps makes a better online experience. Also they will eventually shut down the serverS for splatoon and mk8. How on earth is this BS , explain yourself.

                    1. Still waiting for why you say it’s Bs, jnsteasf of trying to redirect the conversation LMFAO.

                        1. Well everyone said that when PlayStation plus became required for online play on PS4. Stop being a delusional penny pincher kid , Because everyone else know that was eventually gonna happen with Nintendo. There is absolutely nothing you nor anyone else can do about Nintendo changing. this goes for games too (try way always keep some core aspects of the franchise/brand , but they do need to change ). You just can’t expect change kid.

                          1. There is reason why PC players still don’t have to pay for online , that answer is simple (because of modern , hackers , and Pc gaminbg is exspensive (due to the parts that most games need in order to run). Nintendo shouldn’t be expectation to payed online , if Microsoft and Sony are both doing it.

                2. Actually I will say that your point makes sense here. Or at least partially.

The Nintendo Switch is probably not as good at the moment for Wii U owners. Hence waiting would be understandable. Personally, I’d probably trade in my Wii U if I had one.

How I see it, with Mario Kart, pokken tournament and if they port any other games over, it is a wise move. Lot sense of people never player those games. And of which I have read many Wii U games are particularly good games. So it makes sense to bolster the Library of their new console with these fantastic games, to not only sell to those that didn’t have a Wii U but also to aid the consoles initial sales.
