Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning “Has No Faith” In Switch, Says Nintendo’s Thinking “Killed Iwata”

Lorne Lanning doesn’t seem to be very fond of Nintendo’s current situation or the Nintendo Switch. In a recent interview about the company’s latest console, the president and co-founder of Oddworld Inhabitants made it clear that he “has no faith” in it. He also criticized Nintendo’s thinking, attributing it to a possible cause of former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata‘s death. You can read some of Lanning’s controversial comments below:

I don’t have faith. I have no faith. It’s due to experience. I see a similar level of success than they had with previous generations. Wii U, Wii. By the end of the life of the Wii, who else was making money aside from Nintendo? How many titles sold for the Wii that weren’t Nintendo first-party? They started basically evaporating third party support. We get to Wii U – same, no third party support.

You would think, OK, the Switch, it’s mobile, this is interesting, how well are other developers going to bring titles over – not very well because you’re going to have to spend more time, energy and effort to get it on that console – an underpowered console that’s going to have fewer units in the market.

The thinking has to change. The biggest problem I see at Nintendo is the thinking. Personally, I think it killed Iwata; that he couldn’t move the organisation into a really successful arena. It’s a tragedy because Nintendo brought this business back… we’re all playing today because of Nintendo’s valiantness – then they controlled quality, they had controls which were really part of its longevity and made the game business a valid space again. Now those controls… they really need to get 21st century about it and they’re not.

      1. Fire Emblem Elitist

I only agree with Half of his statement i too have no faith for the Switch but the staement on Iwata was cruel

    1. This guy seems like a dumbass. But let’s be fair here, I don’t think he meant “killed Iwata” literally. Yea, poor choice of words and he’s clearly and idiot. But he obviously means it like, it killed Iwata because he couldn’t progress the company… Like it killed me that I cant pre-order the fucking SNES Classic….

      1. He does have a point about Nintendo’s thinking and how they deal with 3rd party though. 3rd party devs want a powerful machine to develop games on, but Nintendo isn’t giving gamers or 3rd party devs that option, and when 3rd party devs are willing to port their games to Nintendo platforms at a downgraded level in order to get it to even run reasonably that port never sells well enough to justify the time and man power wasted on said port, therefore it makes perfect sence why 3rd parties avoid Nintendo like a plague. It’s like trowing a party and asking your guess to bring a dish, only to have that dish sit there as nobody touches it until it’s thrown out at the end of the party. The next time you’re invited to a Nintendo party and they ask you to bring another dish you will be thinking “What the f*ck for!? Nobody ate what I brought last time, so why should I waste my time and money making another dish only to have it thrown out again!?”, and that sums up everything wrong with Nintendo.
Nintendo may not need a powerful machine for their 1st party games, but AAA devs do in order to make and play games like Anthem, Horizon ZD, Last of Us 2, Spider Man, Beyond Good & Evil 2, Days Gone, COD, BF, Overwatch, Unknown’s Battlegrounds and the list goes on for miles. If Nintendo doesn’t get off their moral high horse and give the devs what they want then Nintendo will never get 3rd party support ever again.
I will give Ubisoft this, they are going way out to appease Nintendo fans with that Mario + Rabids Kingdom game, especially given the issues I named above, and even they realized the only way 3rd party support would work is if they create a unique game that isn’t on other consoles, because they won’t have to here BS like “The PS4 and xbox version looks better than this crap we got!” or “they aren’t even trying with these multiplats”, Watchdogs on WiiU anyone!?
I think I made my point, Nintendo need to get off their ass and make a powerful platform for 3rd party devs or they will continue to never get 3rd party support equivalent to Sony, Microsoft and PC, period.
That’s what Lorne Lanning really meant, and he’s 100 percent correct on that, the only ones benefiting from Nintendo’s way of thinking is Nintendo, and Nintendo alone, not fans/consumer or and definitely not 3rd party devs.

      1. “If Nintendo doesn’t get off their moral high horse and give the devs what they want then Nintendo will never get 3rd party support ever again.”

Well this is kind of silly. The only question of 3rd party support is whether or not it’s profitable to release games on the Switch. If it is, the devs won’t have a choice, the choice to move to the Switch will be made for them by the financial side of their company. While making Nintendo machines easier to develop successful games on by making their hardware more similar to other platforms to do it, it certainly isn’t the only way to do it. Just like in the handheld market which Nintendo has dominated for decades, all they need is enough market share and the rest will follow on its own. If Nintendo sells enough Switches, there will be too much money on the table for companies to ignore. This isn’t the Wii, it doesn’t have an awkward new control scheme pushed onto ever single game that limits how other games can be played on it. If the Switch matches or surpasses the other big two in sales, there’s no way 3rd party support doesn’t come to the Switch. That’s just now how the market works

Both you and Lorne Lanning have completely ignored history. Saving the industry from the crash is not something Nintendo did by making an impressively powerful machine. The same arguments about the Switch being underpowered now were used by PC fans back in the 80’s against the NES. The most successful console of all time, the PS2, with some of the best 3rd part support of any console, was the WEAKEST of its generation by a wide margin. Instead of devs going and making high end games for the gamecube and Xbox and making crappy ports to the PS2, they built around the PS2 and ported to the stronger consoles. Why? Because power has nothing to do with any of it, market share does. The system with the highest market share gets game suited to its hardware, whatever level of power that system might have.

        1. Something tells me that Nintendo is really on a tight spot this year if you know what I mean. Why should they listen to the guy that says some bullshit about iwata. It didn’t killed the development of Nintendo NX.

There market value for the company has increased up to 20% during there time of the switch development. If Nintendo Switch sales gets to a million, then the company will still get a chance to have more third party games on there console and it will be able to get a chance for Nintendo to make some huge Trees. You know. Money. I know Nintendo ignore some stuff over for the past few years, but your right. It will be too much 💰 on the table that they will ignore. Besides, Third parties are too expensive and it’s very odd to say that Nintendo really having a hard time asking the third parties developers put there games on there consoles. It’s kinda like Ps3 and Xbox 360. Yeah those consoles are not powerful and it’s the weakest of them all.

  1. That’s funny… I could’ve sworn it was Bile Duct Cancer… “that he couldn’t move the organisation into a really successful arena” But he was the president during the best two selling Nintendo systems’ life… DS and Wii… And its highest stock prices.

    1. I’ve never even heard of this Lanning before now, and he thinks that he can shoot his mouth off and say ignorant BS … it’s hilarious. Because now the only thing I (and many others) will associate him with is this. :|

  2. thenintendoreviewer

This man is completely out of line. First of all saying Nintendo’s thinking killed Iwata is super shitty and inappropriate. Offensive. Secondly does he not see how popular the system is? Has he not heard multiple developers say they don’t have an issue with the Switch’s power level? This guy is a moron and an asshole

      1. Well iyawata died from a bike duct. So trying to superimpose that he is some how suggesting that he actually died from working to hard suggests two things.

        1) he feels bad that man worked him self to death….which would still make sense since he loves Nintendo
        2) that somehow working for Nintendo kills people…….logical 👀…… So 1) it is then

      2. thenintendoreviewer

It really doesn’t come across that way. With how the rest of his statement looks, it sounds like he’s suggesting that poor decisions by Nintendo killed Iwata. It’s a very inappropriate statement on his part.

  3. “Personally, I think it killed Iwata…”

Yeah. I’m sure the tumor had absolutely nothing to do with it.

What does he mean by “Nintendo’s thinking”? Didn’t Iwata play a big part in developing the Switch? I’m having difficulty understanding the point he’s trying to make. A few years ago he said he expected Nintendo to be around for the next hundred years, so I’m sure he’s not saying Nintendo’s gonna fold up.

  4. He dues not mean it literally killed him, he is talking about the pressure from the way the company works.

Second iyawata is one of his idols, but loran is right, Nintendo is basically a first party platform. This well be the same by the end, just a fact

    1. That still doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Iwata was CEO. He had more than enough say to lead the company in a new direction, and seemed to do so toward the end of his life, laying the ground work for mobile, amusement parks, etc. This new direction is something that Kimishima is continuing. They’re even having discussions now about possibly creating shows and movies. To say that Iwata was unable to move the company into a successful arena sounds rather ridiculous. Nintendo’s prospects right now are greater than they’ve been since the days of the SNES.

      1. I happen to know from personally talking to Lorne , that he not only loves Nintendo, but iyawata was a idol to him (and myimoto) he has also praised Nintendo many times, even articles on this site.

    2. It doesn’t matter if it wasn’t meant literally. I don’t think anyone here took it literally. He’s an asshole because he made such a rude comment. He could’ve made his point well enough without making such an offensive comment.

      1. Sure? But not really, he is trying to make a point, don’t be a snowflake about it… Lol i mean is he supposed to enact change by whispering?

      2. Almost everybody in the comments section took it literally. Just look how many people mentioned that it was a bile duct cancer. Ariyon is right though. He CLEARLY is making these statements not be an asshole but out of love for Nintendo. People need to stop taking constructive criticism to be hate. I completely agree with Lorne and I admire the fuck out of Iwata and love Nintendo’s games.

    3. Are you an underage child?

      “iyawata”

      COME ON, BRAH!

Even trolls at least know their Japanese from watching anime on Toonami.

Don’t say any stupid crap that can get you into trouble.

In a real fight. People would beat your ass for having a speech complex or just acting dumb.

Don’t defend a moron like that guy with no respect or people will throw you under the bus.

        1. A Good Tactician Has Nothing To Fear

Well, if they can only afford one system and want to play Oddworld New ‘n Tasty, why would they choose a Switch in the first place? The PS4 would be a better choice because not only is the standard model of the PS4 more affordable, you can also download New ‘n Tasty for free on there.

        2. Super Fighting Robot Ultron-Sigma

I also forgot to mention that, unlike the Switch right now, all variations of the PS4 are actually in stock and the Switch most likely won’t be back on store shelves until this holiday season. Although, I have heard that they’ve been popping up on Amazon, but then going out of stock shortly after… (Very glad I got mine day 1.)

  5. Another washed up developer *sigh*… I have no problem with devs being critical of Nintendo but these comments are downright toxic and disrespectful.

        1. I think a lot of people who come on this site and start commenting long enough will start to think Nintendo Commander is a fanboy and eventually argue with him the same way I did.

        2. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

          ||You can keep lying to yourself, your imaginary creator will punish you for lying, we both know too well what got you started, but do continue…||

      1. And you clearly know nothing about anything else.
The gruesome comments aside (albeit not forgiven), it is a pure paradox do say that “Iwata was unable to pull the company in a new direction” when it is widely known that the Switch, and the Nintendo amusement parks and most other new-thinking projects that have been praised, are a legacy that Iwata himself was unfortunate enough to not be able to see with his own eyes, but which he very much planted the seeds for.

It doesn’t matter if you know this Lorne or not, he said something idiotic (and insensitive, no matter if intentional or not) and he will have to accept the backlash.

  6. Someone needs to fill this guy in and let him know the Switch is actually doing well and Nintendos been profitable so they’re doing something right.

Also I got Odd World for free on PS4 and I have yet to touch it… Is it any good ?

    1. I personally like it a lot, platinumed it too. But I suppose nostalgia might be playing some role in that, because I played the original on the PS1 back in the day, haha. Objectively seen, it’s probably still a pretty decent game. And since you got it for free, I’d say it’s definitely worth a try.

    2. He doesn’t need to be filled in on anything. He’s simply using what we know of the past as well as his own experiences working with Nintendo to predict the future. It does not matter if the Switch outsells the Wii U and it does not matter if sales are alright now. As with all consoles, once it reaches a certain install base, growth slows down. What point will that be and much will sales slow down? Also, are people looking at the Switch as more than just their Zelda or Nintendo machine? Because it’s not a success if people don’t buy a lot of software for the system. That’s the metric that a lot of people refuse to look at with the Wii. It sold a lot of hardware but so few people bought games for it that had lower software sales than the PS3 and Xbox 360. Same thing with the 3DS. It sold 50% more units than the Wii but sold the least amount of software that generation. When we look at software sales especially when it comes to third parties, there has been no change between the Wii, Wii U, and Switch.

      1. If Switch turns a profit it is a success, for Nintendo. If it sells millions of Mario’s and Zelda’s it’s a success for Nintendo. If a Third Party tries to do crappy ports of PS4 Pro or XboxOneX games and it doesn’t sell who’s fault is that ? Nintendo has said they are not competing directly with the “twins” so third parties need to change their mind set about bringing ports and instead focus on games made for Switch. It really is quite baffling don’t you think ?

To sit hear and call it under powered because your game won’t run means you never intended your game to be on Switch in the first place so that statement is a cop out by any third party that uses that excuse.

Granted it needs an install base sure, but it’s a little early to “have no faith” in the Switch when stores can’t hold enough stock otherwise the Switch could be on par with Wii sales. If the install base is there and this guy or other third parties still fail, it has nothing to do with the Switch and more to do with lacking sub par ports riddled with issues that will have a superior version on ps4. All I know if I were a third party I wouldn’t try to port a game that doesn’t even run at 30fps on ps4 to Switch and if I did, it would by my own fault if it didn’t sell, not Nintendo’s.

        1. How cheap and easy do you think games are to make? Companies have no obligation to the make the Switch successful nor do they have any obligation to make a game that has fewer on-screen enemies or a smaller worlds and levels for the sake of the Switch ESPECIALLY when the attitude toward third party games is so toxic on Nintendo systems. Even if your game can work for the lowest common denominator of specs and the Switch is you primary platform then that same game can run MUCH better on the others systems at higher resolutions and framerates with more effects and anti-aliasing and Nintendo fans will look at as “Why are they giving us a shitty port?”

RiME is coming to the Switch and it looks a lot like the versions for other systems. It’s a good port but it runs 720p30 in handheld mode and when docked. Not much of issue though because Nintendo Switch fans are accept that the Switch is weaker and intend to support the developer, right? Wrong. People bitched, said they wouldn’t buy the game anymore, and said the game should run 1080p60 when docked and the developers just hate the Switch and don’t want to put in the extra work. If I was Tequila Works, then at that moment, I would have just said “Fine. You’re not gonna buy? Then we’ll just save our money and cancel it now.”

If the sentiment on this site is as ubiquitous amongst Nintendo gamers and you guys make it seem and you try out third-party games based on their use of Nintendo’s IP and there devotion to Nintendo then there’s no way the Switch is getting strong third-party support.

The only time a third-party is going to make a Switch exclusive game is if they feel it’s appeal is uniquely to Nintendo fans.

Also, the Wii U turned a profit, too, as did it’s games and nobody is calling that a success.

          1. Sigh… You’ve come at me once before … The problem with people like you is you begin spewing so much diarrhea that I can’t even read the whole comment because it’s a bunch of you know this and that and and right about everything … and you really don’t say much of anything.

To call Nintendo fans toxic due to how 3rd party developers treat us is really pathetic too. I think most Ninty fans can live with lower resolutions and 30fps , its when they port games missing modes or bugged to the point it’s unplayable that’s the real problem. They port poorly for a quick buck and when it doesn’t sell they are quick to say it’s Nintendo fans fault it didn’t have Mario. Its a poor excuse and a cop out if you ask me.

So You’re basically saying it cost to much to make Switch exclusive games so just make games for ps4 and Xbox and port to Switch ? GTFO with that thinking. Again if third parties don’t want to put the effort then they can’t expect Nintendo fans to accept the crap they put out on Switch or any console for that matter. This “toxic” Nintendo fan knows how it works by now so I own a PS4 for non Nintendo games but if any 3rd party wants to make a good game for Switch I’ll support and no it doesn’t have to cater to Nintendo fans or have Mario in it.

The one question I have for you is, why you even here? Rather than saying nonsense about Nintendo I’m sure there’s an Xbot site you can spread your disease elsewhere . 🤓

            1. If you don’t think I said much of anything it’s because you didn’t read the whole comment.

The reaction to lower resolutions wasn’t assumed, it was observed on this same exact site. To my knowledge only FIFA 18 and NBA Playgrounds with missing features and the later is promising to add those features via a patch later. They actually completed the patch long ago but Nintendo was refusing to approve the patch because it’s above the size limit they allow for patches, a limit which is probably in place due to the limited internal storage of the Switch. The devs also found a way to half the file size of the game which is a benefit to players and Nintendo but the eShop currently doesn’t support doing that. And did you watch Lorne’s whole interview? He explained that he decided to release the last Oddworld game on the Wii U because he figured it would help out both Nintendo and his company, but because he didn’t release it on the Wii U the same time as the other systems, they refused to advertise it on the eShop.

“So You’re basically saying it cost to much to make Switch exclusive games so just make games for ps4 and Xbox and port to Switch ? GTFO with that thinking.”

No I didn’t “basically” say that at all. I’m say these two things

              1. The Switch is much weaker than the other systems even when it comes to running game logic.
              2. Even if a game was made with the Switch as the target development system, the game will still easily run and look better on the other systems so there wouldn’t be any reason not to release it on those systems as well. The result is that the Switch version will look worse for obvious reasons and they’ll still get shit for it despite their best efforts.

“The one question I have for you is, why you even here? Rather than saying nonsense about Nintendo I’m sure there’s an Xbot site you can spread your disease elsewhere ”

I’m a Nintendo fan. The Wii U and 3DS are the most recent consoles I own. I’ve never owned an XBox and don’t yet own a PS4. I’m here and criticize Nintendo because I care about Nintendo and I want them to have the most successful platforms again and that won’t happen by calling devs lazy and blaming them for things that Nintendo or their hardware is at fault for.

Going back to your first post. “All I know if I were a third party I wouldn’t try to port a game that doesn’t even run at 30fps on ps4 to Switch and if I did, it would by my own fault if it didn’t sell, not Nintendo’s.”

Except it WOULD be Nintendo’s fault that that game can’t run just as well. The Switch came out a little over 3 years after the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. They knew what kind of CPU performance developers were targeting now and they could have given them that but they chose not to because they decided to use an underclocked off-the-shelf tablet SoC from 2015 that’s over-built for something like the Switch and manufactured on a process that chip-makers were already moving away from at the time.

It’s not like people are purposely designing games so that they don’t run on the Switch. The developers of A Plague Tale didn’t have “shouldn’t run on Switch” in their design document. They had “fight swarms of rats” and the Switch doesn’t meet the requirements of the game. Maybe it would have reached those requirements if Nintendo didn’t under-clock the TX1’s CPU to half of what it was made to run at.

There are Chinese smart phones with more capable CPUS than the Switch and the Switch is a gaming machine. Those same CPUs would also give the PS4’s CPU a run for it’s money. Are you realizing now how easy it would have been for Nintendo to have solved these problems?

              1. Ridley X3 {Jaded Ninty fan. Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4. Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch; just need cloud storage, add external HDD support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

You wasted your time. Maybe he’s too dumb to understand the overall point you are trying to make. Or he’s being too much of a Nintendo fanboy to listen to any logic you might have. He’s clearly made up his mind that you are just a hater of Nintendo & have an Xbox or PS4. Just another lost cause trapped inside Nintendo’s little box it would seem.

    1. Wow, you don’t seem to understand what he was talking about. Lorne loves and praises Nintendo. He was talking about a man caught under corporate pressure. He is suggesting how to make Nintendo better and modern. But instead you miss read it as an insult…….ironically this is Nintendo’s problem too

      1. There’s no “miss reading” it. He said: “The thinking has to change. The biggest problem I see at Nintendo is the thinking. Personally, I think it killed Iwata; that he couldn’t move the organisation into a really successful arena.” That clearly is a rude comment, leveraging on Iwata’s death to “make a point”

  7. well… ur an asshole, your games suck, and this isnt coming from a super fanboy nintendo guy either. I own an xbox one, ps2, 360, wii u, switch, and 3ds. I wish i had a ps4 to play certain games. I’m very open minded for gaming in general. Hell, i’m only on this site because its imo the best nintendo news site but it certainly not the only video game news site im on you can be damn sure of that. You took a low jab at nintendo and Iwata at that. You are muddying iwata’s name with you ignorance and blasphemy. You obviously don’t know much about the gaming industry, trends, or the consumer, as all the numbers show the switch to eventually do better than the wii u. I can personally say that a lot of my friends are very interested in the console (i have friends in 4 different states, 7 different schools, and not to mention friends in another country) where is your proof? u have nothing. You can say you have no faith, your entitled to your opinion but saying nintendo killed iwata is so disrespectful. gfy

      1. So its not ok for him to dislike a video games series but the guy on the article can overly negative towards nintendo all he wants and thats seemingly ok to you?

Lets play find the sony fanboy!

        Who wants to go first!

      2. Guess I’m just used to better games or rather games more fitted to my liking… I thought oddworld was… boring and clunky but hey if you like it that’s good for you!

  8. Excuuuuuse me? Nintendo’s thinking killed Iwata? Then what was the bile duct problem? Was that just a bluff?

He might want to think heavily on the way he words his sentences. On top of that, does he just ignore all the people and companies saying Switch is actually quite nice and easy to work on?

    1. He meant “killing him” as in he was under lots of pressure. Not that it literally killed him. Maybe think and don’t make assumptions. Lorne loves and praises Nintendo. And if you knew anything about him you would know he would not say something hurtful like that, it’s literally against his beliefs. Maybe the photo wasn’t enough of a give away, but he is one of those “free love” hippies

  9. I agree with all the comments about this guy being a douche. But I’d like to also point out that he mentioned that Nintendo needs to bring their controls into the 21st century, and to that i say, whate the hell are you talking about?! Seriously Nintendo has been the one making the huge leaps with controllers while everyone else is just sitting back using basically the same stuff. Also Nintendo is making technological leaps by making the first hybrid console, and the most powerful dedicated gaming handheld ever at the same time! Plus HD rumble! This guys arguments are stupid.

    1. “Controls” not “controllers” he is talking about internal corporate structure. Like over independent developers. Like how the Wii U was flooded with crap games, and has no real third party support.

  10. Did he seriously lump the Wii and Wii U together? Sorry, but while the latter was a dud, the former was a good system with plenty of sales to prove it.

      1. I know how to read thank you very much and there’s a difference between giving Nintendo credit for them building the gaming industry and liking Nintendo, you can hate Nintendo and still appreciate what that done for gaming as a whole. Also, when exactly was the last Oddworld game before New n’ Tasty because last time I checked, the last game before New n’ Tasty was on PS2, the only reason we got New n’ Tasty was because no big companies wanted to give funds to his idea, so he kickstarted it because no developer wanted to bring back a dead franchise.

      2. What exactly is your definition of “positive”? It’s completely unfair and extremely biased of him to look upon Nintendo from the standpoint of the Wii U’s sales figures, I don’t think he realizes that Nintendo has been doing better than they ever have. He might say that he likes Nintendo outside of this article, but what I’m getting from the article itself (and not an outside source) is that he’s ignorant and extremely biased.

  11. Don’t know who he is. Nor do I care. But his comments regarding Iwata are a bit distasteful. I know what he meant, but is it really appropriate to bring that up? Have some class.

Nintendo’s doing awesome with the Switch, haven’t been so optimistic about Nintendo in a long time. So hyped for Splatoon 2.

  12. I dont understand this. who cares id the console is under powered, I hate how thats become a necessity for a system become successful.. the wii was popular because it had lots of games. GOOD games. GOOD GAMES are what make a console good, not whether or not it can run 4k graphics.

    1. Yes, good games make a console good. But like it or not, Nintendo misses out on many good third party games because some developers don’t want to bother doing what it takes to put their games on Nintendo consoles. Nintendo has had mediocre third party support for years. By being underpowered, Nintendo scares off some third party developers that make good games.

      1. You do realize that the guy who made Oddworld said that Iwata died of pressure and not you know cancer or a tumor?

Last time I remember? DREAMS DON’T KILL A PERSON IN REAL LIFE!

And no, nightmares don’t count as he just made a disgusting comment about the man.

ShadowVegeta. Don’t be an idiot online. Just don’t!

        1. Tree, you’re the idiot here. The article may have mentioned that, but that’s not what this particular conversation is about. Neither Keaton nor I mentioned anything about Iwata or anything to do with death. So how about you learn to read or mind your own business. Don’t be a fool online. Just don’t.

        2. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

Are you mad because you honestly believe Lorne insulted Iwata? Or are you mad that Lorne gave criticism, and his own personal opinion, toward the Switch & Nintendo? Seems to be the latter since you are bringing the Iwata comment into a discussion that had nothing to do with the Iwata crap.

            1. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

Uhm… My picture is of Johnny Blaze from the first Ghost Rider movie during his very first transformation into Ghost Rider. (The very first transformation is always the most painful since the body isn’t use to the transformation yet. And is also why every transformation after the first is quicker than the first because the body is adjusting to it.)

            2. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

              Learn ya movies, bro.

        1. Maybe you should look at the first comment in this conversation. Keaton is the person who made the first comment. Again, this conversation has nothing to do with Iwata. And do you really think I’m scared of you? Please. Keyboard warriors don’t scare me.

          1. You can’t look at underpowered as just being about system A running a game at 720p when system B can run it at 1080p. That’s a crucial part of the discussion since graphics have long been something that sells games but that’s something that can be dealt with; you can lower the resolution, drop effects, drop polygon count, drop frame rate and get to run.

The real issue is the things like RAM amount and CPU power. The XBO and PS4 are not renowned for their powerful CPUs. It’s been an issue even with AAA games. In fact, from benchmarks I looked up, there are phone CPUs that are around the performance of the PS4’s CPU. The Switch is significantly weaker than those systems, about 1/3rd the performance from what I can tell. That’s not something you can compensate for as well. You can cut the framerate from 60 to 30 if that’s possible but that would only get you half way. Maybe after that you can get away with cutting the physics engine and just using fixed animations for something. But you maybe can’t risk touching your AI, object culling, and other game logic or you run the risk of making your game worse.

Then you look at the fact that you have half as much RAM so now you have to load assets way more often based off your character’s movement speed or something or you need to use compression in an interesting way. That’s all stuff that adds more strain to your CPU.

My point is that there’s only so much that you can talk about gaming as if it’s not a bunch of ones and zeroes representing integers and floats doing addition and comparison. Tech is intrinsic to video games and anything you do in a game requires processing. I don’t think anybody could make the case that Breath of the Wild would be the same dynamic and open experience if it were released on the 3DS. Maybe you can get a really ugly version of BotW on the 3DS that lacks a lot of the interaction between objects and creatures but what consumer would look at that version versus the Wii U or Switch versions and want to play that? That’s why specs have always mattered in the past and that’s why they matter now.

        2. Honestly if said it in a different way it wouldn’t been better and people would still get salty but the comment is pretty weird I mean iwata did a lot for Nintendo but it just sounds horrible how he says it does this guy not not know how to do an interview he could have worded it a different way because it’s kinda of a bit of a turnoff

          1. Honestly I think if it was titled “oddworld creator symphysis with iyawata but skeptical about switch” people wouldn’t have freaked out

        3. Looking at his comments from a 3rd party developers perspective he seems very bitter, hurt to beyond angry at Nintendo.
I can understand his frustration but exactly where do you get off speaking about Iwata’s death in such a manner?! Long ago Sega’s former president made the decision they will stop making systems & focus on games. Shortly after he died as well, is that Sega’s fault as well?!
This guy sounds like another dime a dozen hater in the mix! Hell! If you Dont care for the SWITCH then DONT DEVELOP FOR IT!! Focus on SONY, M$ & PC.

          1. “Looking at his comments from a 3rd party developers perspective he seems very bitter, hurt to beyond angry at Nintendo.”

He’s not. He’s frustrated and trying to provide constructive criticism about Nintendo.

“I can understand his frustration but exactly where do you get off speaking about Iwata’s death in such a manner?! Long ago Sega’s former president made the decision they will stop making systems & focus on games. Shortly after he died as well, is that Sega’s fault as well?!”

He wasn’t talking about his death. If Iwata were still alive, Lorne’s sentence would have been “Personally, I think it kills Iwata; that he couldn’t move the organization into a really successful arena.”

Do understand what he’s saying now?

“This guy sounds like another dime a dozen hater in the mix! Hell! If you Dont care for the SWITCH then DONT DEVELOP FOR IT!! Focus on SONY, M$ & PC.”

This is the EXACTLY the kind of mentality that will lead failure and EXACTLY what Lorne is talking about. What do you think the point of being platform holder is? Being a platform holder means you get to take a cut of the profit of every third party game sold on your platform and all the profit made on your first party games. When third-party games don’t come out or sell on a Nintendo platform, that hurts Nintendo. That’s money out Nintendo’s profits that could be going toward R&D, advertising, game development, etc. And what to you think the point a third party releasing a game on a platform is? To make money. If they develop their game for a platform and it sells badly on that platform then where’s their return on investment. What part of that makes the third-party the bad guy?

        4. How does any of this have any correlation to cancer? It sounds like he’s just trying to make his statements stand out more by connecting it to Iwata’s death, what an asshole.

          1. You do realize that Iwata was heavily criticized by investors, gamers, and analysts before his death despite his best efforts, right? THAT’s what he means by killed. He’s saying it broke Iwata’s heart that he couldn’t transition the company into a long-term successful strategy. He’s saying it emotionally killed Iwata.

            1. Ridley X3 {Jaded Ninty fan. Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4. Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch; just need cloud storage, add external HDD support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

I’m sadly one of those people that criticized him.

              1. Don’t be hard on yourself though. It’s fine to be critical of people. On the other hand, when news spread that he was sick and even 4chan sent him a get well card, there were others publicly wishing he would die. Those are the people who are shit, not you.

                1. Ridley X3 {Jaded Ninty fan. Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4. Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch; just need cloud storage, add external HDD support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

True. Wanting him to be replaced as CEO is definitely not on the same level as wanting him dead. Very, very far from it.

          2. I played his game for few minutes, but after this I think I’ll never play anymore his games.

If he doesn’t like the Nintendo ecosystem why he bring his game on the Wii U?

        5. okay how long before he apologizes and takes this all back and pretend he never said it? I give him a week.

This is a stupid and disrespectful thing to say like my God. Like really? I never cared about Oddworld and now I’m boycotting it thanks to this comment.

          1. He didn’t say anything even remotely disrespectful and he has nothing to apologize for. He’s not talking about Iwata’s actual death. People need to learn how to read.

            1. Certain folks of the political spectrum never had a problem boycotting shit they never even heard about.

        6. I’m gonna translate and elaborate on this for all the people misinterpreting what he’s saying.

“I don’t have faith. I have no faith. It’s due to experience. I see a similar level of success than they had with previous generations. Wii U, Wii. By the end of the life of the Wii, who else was making money aside from Nintendo? How many titles sold for the Wii that weren’t Nintendo first-party? We get to Wii U – same, no third party support.”

Here he’s stating that third party support was lacking on the Wii and Wii U and see’s this continuing with Switch. He’s also stating that Nintendo systems have not been as profitable for third-parties because those who buy Nintendo systems mainly buy Nintendo games. Because of this, he has no faith in the Switch’s success.

“You would think, OK, the Switch, it’s mobile, this is interesting, how well are other developers going to bring titles over – not very well because you’re going to have to spend more time, energy and effort to get it on that console – an underpowered console that’s going to have fewer units in the market.”

The porting effort to bring games to the system is greater than on PC, PS4, and XBO do the large gap in performance. This is solely a matter of development time and will power but return on investment. Games that are CPU limited on PS4 and XBO will be next to impossible to port well to the Switch. In cases where it’s simply a graphics issue, then the problem is “We can strip down the games presentation to get it to run, but will anybody buy it now that outwardly looks vastly inferior to the other version?” If you need any examples just looked at the Switch owners who said they will refuse to buy RiMe on the Switch because it’s only 720p30 when docked.

“The thinking has to change. The biggest problem I see at Nintendo is the thinking.”

Nintendo needs to create a ecosystem where third parties can thrive, not just themselves. They need to reach to the demographics who play on systems and can’t settle with being the secondary system that people own to play their games. Doing this will be a boon to third parties and themselves.

“Personally, I think it killed Iwata; that he couldn’t move the organisation into a really successful arena.”

It broke Iwata’s heart that he couldn’t move Nintendo in a direction that led toward long-term success. The Wii was hugely successful for Nintendo but people didn’t buy many games for it. The follow up became their least successful system of all time which caused them to regroup and try for another idea that doesn’t seem to be bringing third-parties on board. He’s not inferring that Iwata was actually killed by failure.

“It’s a tragedy because Nintendo brought this business back… we’re all playing today because of Nintendo’s valiantness – then they controlled quality, they had controls which were really part of its longevity and made the game business a valid space again.”

He’s referring to Nintendo making video games popular in the west again after the Video Game Crash of 83. The next statement is either stating that he feels their Seal of Quality thing prevented there system from being slammed with the same kind of shovelware that caused the original crash or he’s stating that they kept the quality of games high by setting the bar with their own games.

“Now those controls… they really need to get 21st century about it and they’re not.”

These same views on how to make a successful ecosystem no longer work in the 21 century. He’s not taking a jab at their controllers.

          1. This man says lots of sh*t about Nintendo is thinking killed Mister Iwata.

About the power and bring the game on the Switch I agree with that because many 3rd party developers have fear about to make a port of the game on the Switch, because they think people will not buy it. But bring the game on the Switch is not a problem of Nintendo but it’s a choice of the developers who wants to bring their game on the system. Take for example Skyrim developers who decided to bring Skyrim on the system and also they thinked “Hey you know what? How about add an extra content on the Switch version of Skyrim so people will buy it.” THIS IS HOW IT WORKS! EXTRA CONTENT. THIS IS THE KEY OF THE DEVELOPERS FOR SELL THE GAME ON THE SWITCH.

And this strategy is not only came in mind by the developers of Skyrim, but also for Rocket League developers.

About Rime. People will not buy the game on the Switch for 2 reason:
            1) The developers were so boring to say the system isn’t good and it’s not easy to bring the game in the Switch (with no reason or what exactly is the problem on the Switch)
            2) Because when the Switch version will came out, people already bought it on others systems.

Same problem, if you want to sell your game on the Switch, add extra content and I can assure you people will buy it.

            1. This man says lots of sh*t about Nintendo is thinking killed Mister Iwata.

“About the power and bring the game on the Switch I agree with that because many 3rd party developers have fear about to make a port of the game on the Switch, because they think people will not buy it.”

It’s not that they THINK that it’s that that’s been true the past few generations. I look at the top software sales a few weeks ago and their were two first party Switch games in the top 10 and third party Switch games didn’t show up on the list until close to number 40.

“But bring the game on the Switch is not a problem of Nintendo but it’s a choice of the developers who wants to bring their game on the system.”

“Take for example Skyrim developers who decided to bring Skyrim on the system and also they thinked “Hey you know what? I don’t personally think anybody cares about playing as a homeless version of Linke with matted hair in Skyrim. And Nintendo’s the ones actually publishing Skyrim on Switch, not Bethesda.

“And this strategy is not only came in mind by the developers of Skyrim, but also for Rocket League developers.”

So you’r saying we won’t buy a game unless Mario hats are thrown into games?

“About Rime. People will not buy the game on the Switch for 2 reason:
              1) The developers were so boring to say the system isn’t good and it’s not easy to bring the game in the Switch (with no reason or what exactly is the problem on the Switch)”

Would you prefer they lie and say that the Switch is really easy to port to? They’re not trying to insult the Switch when they say this stuff. It’s just true. When your game was developed targeting the PlayStation 4 it’s absolutely going to be difficult porting your game to console with 1/3rd the CPU performance, half as much memory, and 1/5th to 1/10th the graphics performance.

“2) Because when the Switch version will came out, people already bought it on others systems.”

That’s not unrelated to the fact that they have to put more work into getting the game running on the Switch.

“Same problem, if you want to sell your game on the Switch, add extra content and I can assure you people will buy it.”

That’s not a reasonable request to ask of all developers at all. You want them to not only put all the work into porting their game to weaker hardware AND you want them to add more content just for you AND release it at the same time on all hardware?

              1. Bring the game on the Switch it’s easy. Some developers don’t want to bring the game on the Switch because they don’t want to publish the game on the eshop. They prefer Steam.

Developers have to add extra content if they want a game already be released 2, 3 or 4 years ago. That’s the solution.

                1. “Bring the game on the Switch it’s easy. Some developers don’t want to bring the game on the Switch because they don’t want to publish the game on the eshop. They prefer Steam.”

That’s Nintendo’s problem and they need to fix that. That’s not the developer’s fault.

“Developers have to add extra content if they want a game already be released 2, 3 or 4 years ago. That’s the solution.”

Gamers, in general, are not willing to spend money on games they played that many years ago and can still play now on another system. A Link character skin in Skyrim isn’t going to sell anybody on the Switch version of the game especially when Skyrim has a huge modding community that can mod in a Link skin themselves.

Name some older games that are coming to the Switch or should come to the Switch and tell me what kind of extra content you think they can add that will make them sell well.

                  1. “That’s Nintendo’s problem and they need to fix that. That’s not the developer’s fault.”
I still keep what I wrote. This is not the Nintendo’s fault. It’s the choice of the developers.

“Gamers, in general, are not willing to spend money on games they played that many years ago and can still play now on another system. A Link character skin in Skyrim isn’t going to sell anybody on the Switch version of the game especially when Skyrim has a huge modding community that can mod in a Link skin themselves”

Mod aren’t good. This Link skin version is made by the developers himself. So surely this will work fine.

“Name some older games that are coming to the Switch or should come to the Switch and tell me what kind of extra content you think they can add that will make them sell well”.

                    Payday 2 and Rocket League?

                    1. “I still keep what I wrote. This is not the Nintendo’s fault. It’s the choice of the developers.”

No, it’s definitely Nintendo’s fault. If devs don’t want to release games on the eShop then there must a reason. Nintendo needs to ask what’s different about Steam versus the eShop and what can they learn from Steam? I think your misunderstanding that having third-party games release on the platform isn’t just a benefit to Switch owners but to Nintendo as well. Nintendo wants games on the eShop.

“Mod aren’t good. This Link skin version is made by the developers himself. So surely this will work fine.”

Mods aren’t good? Mods are mods. They can be just as good or better than the what Bethesda themselves are doing. In fact, Bethesda is one of the only developers that seems to do well simply because they let their players fix and improve their games. In fact, mod support was one of the big features that was announced for the Skyrim Special Edition for PS4 and XBO.

                      “Payday 2 and Rocket League?”

So Mario hats and co-op are gonna make up for one being a 2 year old game and the other being 4 years old? Also I had asked you to suggest other games and what features would added features would sell them on the Switch because you seem to believe that every game can have some features easily added to them.

            1. Yea, that was obvious to me even when reading the stuff that he was quoted on but it became even more obvious after watching the whole podcast, hearing his unedited comments, and getting to know more about the guy. A lot of people in this comments section didn’t even think to watch the video and don’t know that the quote in this article was edited down ALOT. They cut out more info in that last paragraph then they kept in.

There’s a two or three minute long conversation between “Personally, I think it killed Iwata; that he couldn’t move the organization into a really successful arena.” and “It’s a tragedy because Nintendo brought this business back…”

          2. Common sense, sadly, is not all that common around here sometimes. Many people here will understand what they want to understand, and take every single bit of criticism as a direct insult to Nintendo. It’s a shame.
So I’m afraid your attempt to explain this whole situation (even though it’s pretty clear to begin with, really) is a wasted effort. I personally enjoyed reading your comments though, so thanks for that, and huge props to you, hah.

I enjoy reading his comments even when he talks about technical stuff that goes right over my head, but I understand the gist of what he’s saying, though, so it doesn’t matter if I don’t understand all of the jargon.

Sadly, whatever this guy says after this is gonna be ignored by the Nintendo faithful even when he has a logical point to what he says.

            3. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

              Referring to Lorne, I mean.

          1. The clickbait title really misrepresented what Lorne was trying to say. Gotta stir up a shitstorm and get that ad revenue.

            1. The title is clickbait in a way, but in this particular case, it wouldn’t have mattered once people read the actual article. Trust me haha a lot of regulars on here would still react the same way.

          2. Maybe I don’t really understand what this man want to say. But the words about Mister Iwata can make people rage very easily, and this isn’t the first time someone says about Nintendo isn’t capable to do the work like Mister Iwata but I don’t think Nintendo is killing what Mister Iwata want.

          1. COLD HEARTED FREAK! IF YOU’RE TRYING TO TROLL, DO NOT USE SOMEONE’S DEATH, YOU COLD HEARTED FREAK! I HOPE GOD SHOWS YOU NO MERCY FOR YOUR COMMENT!

          2. Sorry, I’m a Christian. God will always show me mercy. YOU ON THE OTHER HAND, SHOULD BURN IN H-H-HELL! YOU MADE ME SAY IT! YOU TROLLS ARE NOTHING BUT COLD HEARTED, UGLY, WIMPY EXCUSE FOR GAMERS CAUSE YOU WANT ATTENTION SO BAD, YOU USE A MAN’S DEATH! NEWSFLASH, YOU HAVE ANGERED SOMETHING YOU WILL NEVER GET CALM, SO BE READY TROLLING CRUEL, UGLY, FREAK, WIMPY EXCUSE FOR A GAMER!

AND BY THE WAY, YOUR PRECIOUS MICROSOFT AND SONY HAD GREAT RESPECT FOR IWATA, FREAK!

              1. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

Uhm. He’s a troll. So trust me when I say this: he was gone long before you ever said anything.

          1. How would that make you better than what you are looking down upon? Haha.
All apart from the fact that you completely misunderstood what he even said.

          1. Better tell Sony and Microsoft. They may be Nintendo’s competition, but they had great respect for Iwata, if he tries to get them to publish a new game, then they’ll say: “No, after what you said about Iwata, you will never have a game you made published by us!”

They wouldn’t won’t to publish a new game for him after his cruel comment.

            1. it’s still another Wii in the sense that at the time the Wii was released you could also use the same kind of logic you’re using right now

“the Wii It’s just a glorified game cube!”
“can you use motion controls in your GameCube? No so this is not a GameCube!”

when in fact we all know the Wii was a glorified GC with motion controls

the point being, the Switch it’s a glorified portable WIIU, and it will end up in exactly the same spot than the Wii did
-it will sell millions (good for Nintendo)
-all major triple A releases will skip it because it is underpowered (bad for the consumer)

                1. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

Uhm… You did it again. You just said roughly what someone else most likely said in the past about Wii AND Wii U when it came to some games. lol These two were selling well their first couple of months, too, and one even went on to sell over 80m. Still, many big 3rd party games still skipped right over the Wii.

                  1. Ok I agree with you about the 3rd party support that it wasn’t so strong on the Wii U (I think on the Wii there was good 3rd party support but I don’t remember now).
But for me it’s up to the developers for bring their game on the Switch. Many people are saying it’s Nintendo stopping or not try to say to the 3rd party developers to bring their games on the Switch.
I think it’s a choice. If I want to make a game on a system I choose the Switch, but It’s my choice.

        7. This guy sounds like one of the dumbest morons I’ve ever heard. At least, since Michael Pachter. And how dare he say that Nintendo’s thinking killed Iwata. Uhh, I believe it was a growth in his bile duct that killed him (cancer). It seems like every game company (or singular person) that’s said something negative about Nintendo is responsible for games that I have no interest in. Such as Oddworld. Ugh!

HOWEVER………I do believe that Nintendo is several steps behind other companies as far as graphical power goes. Even though when I played Breath Of The Wild, it was hard to believe that people could still put Nintendo down, since that game was so BEAUTIFUL.

            1. I whole heartedly agree.
Xenoblade Chronicles is an excellent example of this (and why the Wii WAS a truly good system, an enormous library full of nintendo exclusives).

The graphics were so mediocre, but I didn’t care, I got over that in like 10 minutes. The music, the characters, the gameplay, the settings, all of it. It sucked me in and kept me happy for over 97 hours. It’s one of my favorite games now. Graphics really don’t matter in the end. The meat of the game is what makes it great, not the shell.

        8. Don’t think he meant “killed” literally when you consider the content of his sentence. I think he was intending to say that Nintendo’s thinking “killed” Iwata’s ability to make Nintendo a stronger competitor than it is now in the console side of the industry.

The thing is, though, Iwata was involved with the NX’s design. And he also did not like change and hated incorporating “modern” ideas with or into their games (he hated the idea of Nintendo games on smartphones at first for example). I’m not sure I understand Lorne’s points. I think Nintendo is doing a lot more than they’ve ever done with the new president, T. Kimishima. The controller design isn’t of the 21st century? Has he not used the joy-con grip? I guess he also forgot about the pro controller. Sure, it doesn’t come with the system, but you really don’t need it if you have the grip.

What breaks my heart is that Lorne Lanning is saying this…before I even considered gaming design as a career, I always found his games so inspiring. They were creative, thoughtful, smart, topical, and fun. He has not lost that…but he seems so impulsive in this interview. His words are shaky and not as clear-cut as most of his interviews. He also lacks perspective on Nintendo’s business strategy and, instead, thinks they are simply and indisputably wrong. I’m just…at a loss for words…

        9. The man is preaching many wrong things about the Switch. The system having 2 gigs of RAM is completely false. That alone clearly shows that he has never worked on the Switch and has no idea what he’s talking about. Also, is he not seeing the popularity even after the Zelda hype?

I also find it even more pathetic of him criticising Nintendo about the Switch using cartridges. Why would a portable console use a cartridge? The UMD was such a great idea, right?…

        10. Here is what I think:

          – Saying “Nintendo is the thinking. Personally, I think it killed Iwata”. Say what? Nintendo is doing great and their bring to life the Iwata dream project. There are many word to say what you are thinking but saying this it’s just like. Hey Nintendo fans, Nintendo is sh*t, come at me.
          – The third party support. Ok I’ll admit, not many third party developers wants to bring their games on the Switch. Only few of them decided to bring some games, but the games their bring are awesome: Minecraft, Bomberman, Rayman, Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania, Disgaea 5, Namco Museum, Skyrim, Street Fighter (whyarever is an old game but still is one of the most good games), Metal Slug (Old but gold). And also we don’t have to forget Indie developers who brings amazing game like: Shantae, Shovel Knight, Blaster Master Zero and the other game with Mighty and GunVolt and more. So there amazing games, not all by 3rd party developers but this few games are already good in a console like the Switch. I still hope to see OW on the Switch. Oh by the way, we can have instant 3rd party support thanks to RainWay App.
          – The power of the console: This question was already answered by Mister Fils-aime last year. Nintendo Switch is not a console who focus on power, but how to bring fun to people anytime everywhere. Why there is still people thinking about the Switch it must be more powerful? Anyway we still have to see if this SCD will give more power to the Switch.
          – The controllers: …………….. I love Switch’s controllers. I don’t want to write anything about this. I love the Switch controllers, play with many modes.

This guy need some healing, maybe I’ll call my beloved doctor Angela Ziegler

          1. Then why the heck are you here, son?
Do you own a 3ds or something at least?
Because again, what other reason could you possibly have to be here?
This site is for ‘current’ and ‘new’ (spelled N-E-W) Nintendo content, if you ‘hates it so badly, precious’ then don’t comment and don’t linger.

Here’s an idea, go focus on something that you actually DO like. 😧
(Might make you feel a bit better.)

            1. You guys have gone past sony as being the absolute worst fanbase. you guys damage control so much. I said I dont play games when I go out and you guys say just leave the switch docked. Its like you dumbasses dont know that portability rises the price of the console. Then you guys say if you don’t like the switch controller just go out and buy the pro controller. Yes sure, lets waste our money on the joy con controller when we’ll never use it and then shell out another $100 for a pro controller. Now pay to play online is ok because nintendo is doing it. Oh, but its cheaper than the competition so its ok. Like I said, now the worst fanbase in gaming.

              1. Again… w h y are you here? :0
(Oh wait, you TECHNICALLY just answered my question with your rant. It’s to throw shit at Nintendo and it’s fans… hm… if that makes you happy then I feel seriously bad for you.)

            2. Where’s that description for the site?

I could have sworn this was a NINTENDO FAN SITE…. that’s it. From all the crap that gets posted here it’s obviously not focusing on all current/new items. And from the regulars it’s obviously a bunch of damage control for your precious.

              1. Don’t be a sour puss who replies to a post that’s at least a couple of days old that wasn’t even directed at you. Wow.
Also. I actually genuinely like the switch, which is why I defend it. Shocking I know. Seeing old school ‘fans’ (laughable for me bc I also love the snes and 64 but whatever) crap on something that I like, repeatedly is so pathetic, sometimes I feel the need to say something. Oops. Am I not allowed to because I… /gasp/ …like the switch!? :0

                1. Sorry I don’t get to the articles as soon as they post. It’s normally good because I get to filter through all the crap.
It’s not that long a stretch that you’ll be on defense mode if anyone says anything negative about the Switch. Lo and behold you proved me right. So yes it was directed at me because I agree the Switch wasn’t all that was promised because otherwise Nintendo would have my money again on release day.

I would have ignored your comment but you’re blatantly attacking someone who has a different opinion than you. With lies no less, because if this was My Switch News, I wouldn’t be here. That’s really the only thing I replied to.

Who said you’re not allowed? You’re allowed to say whatever the hell you want as can I. But don’t expect the critics to stay quiet all the time and not call you out.

            1. You don’t have to use or try a gaming system to know you dislike it and it’s not for you. At the end of the day they ALL play games, not much else to it if the respective software offerings don’t appease a user’s liking.

The mentality, design, and market focus dictate what a system will be like right from the beginning.

        11. Isn’t the Switch doing well though? Sure, third party is always a sensitive issue, but the thing has only been out for half a year. Jumping the gun just a bit there.

        12. Wow………just wow………smh. This Lorne Lanning asshole makes Michael Pachter look like a saint.

          1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

            ||They are both the same garbage, just look at a picture one of my faithful loyalists gave up further up…||

        13. Not only am I ashamed of these comments but I’m also ashamed of this thread. The bitching, the fighting, white knighting from different camps,it makes me fucking sick. We’re all here because we love video games but nearly everyone of you has lost sight of that!

I’m ashamed of this industry and community!

        14. This is probably one of the most toxic comments section I’ve seen on this site in a while. I’m not even going to say anything about Iwata.

But, he is right about the third party support. The Switch is clearly already on the same path. Many developers still aren’t bringing their big games to it. The way that Nintendo thinks definitely has to change. This issue has gone on far too long. We shouldn’t even be having that problem at this point.

But eh, that’s the way it is nowadays. Nintendo consoles are just Nintendo boxes for the most part. And that likely isn’t going to change any time soon. They’re too stubborn. But, perhaps with Kimishima and the next console, we might see something different being done.

        15. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

Honestly, I think most people are intentionally misreading what the guy meant about it killing Iwata, so they can just hate on his comments about their precious Nintendo and/or Switch. He wasn’t being literal & was using a figure of speech, people. Even if this guy had worded his words better, some of you would STILL be throwing a bitch fit because of “but he insulted muh Switch & muh Nintendo! waaaah!”

Anyway, are we supposed to walk on eggshells forever when we talk about Iwata? The guy was great but he wasn’t perfect. He couldn’t just do whatever he damn well pleased at Nintendo as he had to listen to board members for the most part. Companies like Nintendo are a democracy, not a dictatorship. So when Lorne Lanning says Nintendo’s way of thinking killed Iwata, he means Iwata felt dissatisfaction in what he was trying to accomplish because Nintendo’s thinking kept him from doing something more.

          1. I didn’t intentionally misread a thing. Doesn’t matter what Lenning ‘intended’, he sounds like a douche. I don’t agree with everything Nintendo does, I am still skeptical about their game development choices for some of my favorite series (one of the reasons I bought a ps4 a year ago. So I could actually play a new game.)

Again. Does not mean that Lenning isn’t a complete douche sandwich for his comments. The switch hasn’t been out long enough to complain about lack of 3rd party support. Nintendo already said that the focus would not be graphic capabilities, and Iwata’s death isn’t that sensitive subject if one REFRAINS from putting their foot into their mouth with a blunt statement like, “It (Nintendo’s poor business sense) killed Iwa
            ta.” Honestly.

            1. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

I’m looking at it objectively. He meant no disrespect toward Iwata. In fact, it was more of in defense of Iwata because Nintendo’s thinking held him back from doing what was needed to save the Wii U or make the Switch the best thing possible so it “killed” Iwata to be held back by Nintendo’s foolish “being different for the sake of being different” thinking. He was basically telling people it wasn’t Iwata’s fault that he wasn’t an even better CEO than what he already was. After all, even I can admit I blamed some of Nintendo’s woes on the guy when it wasn’t entirely his fault but the board that he answered to. Some of you are just focusing too much on the literal meaning of kill instead of the figurative meaning Lorne was using.

            2. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

So in your case, you aren’t intentionally misreading it but simply just misreading it. Using a turn of phrase usually sounds better when it’s not taken out of context which is exactly what this article is doing.

          2. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

Addendum: Ultimately, I have to agree with everything Lorne said. I for one don’t think he meant any bad toward Iwata but meant it specifically for Nintendo. Some are focusing too much on the killed Iwata part & taking it literally while others are just using the Iwata part as a scapegoat to shit all over Lorne’s opinion of the Switch & Nintendo.

        16. Again with the power talk!!

If 3rd parties cant make a game that will sell on the switch, it’s THEIR FAULT!! Nintendo is selling games! Nintendo sold more games on the Wii U with it’s shitty install base than some 3rd parties were able to do across the xbone/ps4 combined!

Sit ur ass down and ask yourself… what are they doing that we aren’t? Apparently no one thinks about core gameplay .. it’s just graphics and ram for 4k textures and super effects….. bla bla! if BOTW and Odyssey win GOTY this year, no 3rd party dev has ANY EXCUSE!!

No one is asking for a shitty port… get your asses down and make a game for the switch from scratch with the best of your abilities.

As for his statements about iwata, it doesn’t matter what he meant to say… he tried to use iwata’s memory to sell his dislike for nintendo! It’s a very shitty thing to do….

          1. Jaded Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4; Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch! Just need cloud storage, add external hard drive support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

Some of you have to face facts. Power is a concern with video games. It has ALWAYS been a major concern. In fact, power is a focal point in most technology. Power is more than just graphics. Sure the most powerful system didn’t always win the generation in sales, but that doesn’t make it any less important. You want 3rd party games? Well get use to seeing a shitload of indies & exclusives because that’s sadly most likely the best Switch is gonna get. Most companies aren’t gonna waste time & money on downgrading their multiplat games to run on the weak little portable Switch because history shows those don’t sell very well on a Nintendo system. Would you spend millions & millions of dollars on downgrading your product that’s only gonna sell a couple hundred & only get you maybe a couple thousand bucks back in return? I don’t think so. And if you did, you are a fool, Jon Snow!

        18. He’s absolutely right about the 3rd party support issue. Every time we get a new console, Nintendo comes out and says, “3rd parties are showing HUGE interest! blah blah blah etc”, and then we see the total opposite occur, for obvious reasons.

FUCK YOU! being the creator of an ancient , obscure game doesnt give you the right to talk about Nintendo or -a legend- Iwata. know your place peasant.

He actually has every right to talk about Nintendo just like you have every right to ignore his opinions and defend them. Just because you disagree doesn’t change that. And I’d explain he was only talking bad about Nintendo, not Iwata, but I figure why bother. Some of you have already made up your mind that he’s this evil scumbag saying Nintendo killed Iwata even if you misread his words. *shrug*

Wow. It was the s-bag word. I wonder if it’s because of the word that forms if s & bag are removed. If so, that’s some mighty grasping at straws there. Anyway, can a mod please remove the extra comments that are awaiting moderation along with this one?

        21. Other than the questionable Iwata comment, he’s right and it’s nothing new. Nintendo didn’t learn with the U, and if the Switch keeps selling well they won’t learn with the Switch either.

Pretty sure the 3DS has had it’s success thanks to third party support, but Nintendo will never believe that as they have decades not caring about third parties.

Side note, this thread was vicious, and I’m so glad I jumped in late. Can’t wait for Disqus to block half the trolls and ass kissers.
