Nintendo’s annual report for 2017 has been released and with it comes some interesting information. The Kyoto-based company says that its continuing to work on the development of a new product that improves people’s Quality of Life. As with all Nintendo products it will no doubt be quirky and fun. Here’s what the company had to say about the project:
Our aim is to enable consumers to make daily efforts to improve their QOL in a fun manner by making sleep and fatigue status visible and offering various services based on this information.
I thought the Quality Of Life idea was scrapped. My life definitely needs more quality.
The project no one asked for and most people forgot about. Yeah. Let’s put more resources into that.
Yes. Just like that console no industry cared about untill It was out when this all started. Yes. Just like that little adventure game that had no public or fandom untill now that is called a Legend. This thing that no one seems to care is called innovation, no one knows what it is, so no one cares, until It comes out… It either fails or is a sucess, that’s how business and product innovation works. Get over It, Nintendo will continue to make things no one knows and no one cares about, until they eventually care. Yes, they care about customers or fans, but they care mostly about their hard working creatives, the ones who work behind everything
Did you fall off a Wagon? What the hell you talkin’ about…
How bout you get over it? Didn’t mean to insult your family member. Oh wait, Nintendo isn’t your family. So calm down Sally. Video games, an exciting idea for a lot of people when they first came around. Not everyone obviously, but a lot of people were intrigued. How many people are actually excited about a device that watches you sleep? I’m gonna wager a guess and say not many.
To be fair, no one asked for the NES either, and it wound up playing a major role in saving the industry. You can never know how these things will play out until after they’re released.
Yes, that’s the point! :)
A valid point for the NES. But let’s be honest, how many people do you know that want a device to monitor their sleep (aside from medical situations, which already have technology to handle that). It is possible that this ends up being a hit it it ever releases, but I’m extremely skeptical about it.
I have a feeling that if this ever does actually make it to market, it’ll be a lot different than the device we first saw 3 years ago. Nintendo seems to be emphasizing sleep and fatigue monitoring, but I suspect that’ll end up being a side feature.
As always, who knows what the hell their angle is?
If there is more to it than the sleep stuff, then it definitely has more of a chance to succeed. And you are right haha we never know what they’re gonna do until they do it. Nintendo still has the ability to surprise us.
It’s okay Shadowveg. I getcha, it’s obvious that Nintendo gamers need a machine to count their snores and how much sleep they get. You know, because why not right? $$$. :D.
Haha right? If I want someone to monitor my sleep, I’ll give Freddie Krueger a call.
* Several year’s later *
Nintendo is STILL working on that QOL dream machine for whatever reason!
I thought there was supposed to be more games announced? Indiebox needs some games bro!
You do know the employees that work on QOL aren’t the same employees that work on video games, right?
Clearly people like you don’t know what they’re talking about most of the time.
Maybe I will be buying Nintendo hardware within 3 years then.
I need a Nintendo sleep apnea machine tbh
I dunno, ARMS has already replaced my gym membership, so what else can they do for QoL?
||QoL = Quadraxis or Legwork…||
||Choose your path…||
Hmm. Squats and calf raises. Eh. But I do love playing soccer. Legs it is. 😉
||So you both chose the way of quality pain…||
Soccer is life. If there’s pain involved, it’s worth it.
||This will be the closest to my version of it…||
Oh Commander, EVERYONE skips leg day! So that effectively takes Legwork off the table, don’t ya think?
||You chose the way of suffering…||
You said “Quadraxis or Legwork.” If I passed over legwork, what does that leave? Or am I misunderstanding?
||My path still requires a type of legwork…||
Perhaps deliver a nice cold beverage?
I think they will add this product to the Nintendo Switch.
Hope this is true. I want to live even longer.
Making a new F Zero, Golden Sun, or Fatal Frame would improve my quality of life.
Let’s not forget Nintendo is not just a video game company. That is not how they started out. Good company’s evolve. They make great games, but not every one is into games. They undoublty are appeal to a new audience. Hopefully one that doesn’t critique every move as a bad one. Everyone has ideas on how to spend someone else’s money yet doesn’t just create a product themselves.
Wii gave them a taste of getting millions & millions of casual money, so they are hoping a quality of life machine will help them win those people back. But hey! If it gets all of the health related & some party related games away from their main systems, I’m not entirely against this.
