Kingdom Hearts 3 Director Says Switch Version Possible

Director of Kingdom Hearts 3 Testsuya Nomura has said to IGN at the D23 Expo that a Nintendo Switch version may very well be possible in the future. While he reiterated that he wants to fulfill the promise of the PlayStation 4 & Xbox One versions before he shifts focus to other platforms, this should at least leave a glimmer of hope for all of us Switch owners. The full quote is as follows;

“The Nintendo Switch is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware, but if we lightly say, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll be on the Nintendo Switch,’ I’m sure people will come back and say, ‘But what about the PS4 and Xbox One? We want them out first. Don’t focus on other platforms,’” Nomura told IGN. “So for now, we want to focus on what platforms we’ve already announced we’re going to be releasing Kingdom Hearts 3 on. And so after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.”

This wouldn’t be the first time a Kingdom Hearts title found its way to a Nintendo console as the franchise has been around on the platform since 2004 with Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the Gameboy Advance and most recently in 2012 with Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

In addition to this news, it was also revealed that Kingdom Hearts III will release in 2018 and that one of the new worlds we will visit is none other than Toy Story.

      1. Um stereotype…
        A popular title like Kingdom Hearts 3 coming to the Switch is a big deal even if you don’t care about the game itself! Even if its a late release on this platform, people will be interested in a portable way to play this game. A game this popular will sell Nintendo Switch hardware. With more hardware sold, Nintendo will have more faith in the Switch and focus more on the Switch and move on from the 3DS so we’ll get more first party games too.

        Yes, you could argue the Switch is already selling like crazy and you can’t find one on store shelves. But that won’t last forever you also need to think about the long term. Give it a year and this device will become much more available much like how the Pro Controllers have become easier to find a few months after launch. A game like this will make units fly off the shelf again (or continue the trend).

        Strong third party support is always a good thing whether or not you are interested. If the Wii U had strong 3rd party support it wouldn’t have needed to be replaced by the Switch 4~5 years into its life cycle. Nintendo was lucky the Switch was successful, but they need to ride this wave of success and try to get as many 3rd party games on the platform as possible to keep sales alive a few years down the road!

        1. I never said third parties don’t matter at all. I’m excited as hell for KH3. I’m just saying, Nintendo has a LOT of dev studios between their handheld and console divisions, and with 3Ds and Wii U discontinued, Switch should get full blown support from all studios. Meaning, third parties are important yes, but does Nintendo need them? Will they sink without them? Nope.

      2. As a kid everybody I knew played Nintendo and most did so till the N64 at the very least and allot of them did till the WII. Right now, they all play PS4 or Xbox and I can guarentee you that the first party titles while great obviously aren’t the reason. I would buy a Nintendo if I could play the same third party as PS4 and Xbox , with a modern console. (High end graphics, Online Support, console interface Netflix,Twitch ect. and a bluray player) And most people I know would do the same, so you might wanna rethink that.

        1. Third party games are a supplement. I think it’s important to have them, but I don’t think Nintendo fans will stop buying Nintendo when realistically, all they need is a good gaming concept.

      3. Ridley X3 {Jaded Ninty fan. Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4. Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch; just need cloud storage, add external HDD support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}
      4. Never say never, Cliffy. We’ve already seen third party support from KONAMI, Ubisoft, and Take Two Interactive. Square Enix is already on the list of brining more games for the Nintendo Switch including the exclusive title Project Octopath Traveler.

    1. I dont think that will happen because kingdom heart is to big it might happen but it must be in 30fps and still disney like to create disney game for children and i think kingdom heart will only be in the ps and xbox because both game have a really different genre….. so yeah it is possible but everyone is just to lazy like blizzard they say its possible but it will not happen. But im not so sure so dont judge me.

      I use to think this but now I know better. Unlike Nintendo, Disney isn’t gonna tuck their tail between their legs & run every time some parent gets pissy that the company they think is family friendly is pushing out content for older, more adult audiences. Meanwhile, Nintendo is trying everything they can to appease parents like that because of their stupid family friendly image. Basically, Nintendo are cowards that chopped off their balls a long time ago where as Disney actually still has a pair of balls.

          Hypocrite? No. I know Nintendo isn’t the only company with major issues. I’ve just been having more fun on my PS4 than I’ve had on the Wii & Wii U put together. It’s sad to me that Nintendo has fallen so low over the last 10 years. I’m hoping Switch can bring them back to home console greatness. I’ve sadly even had more fun on my 3DS than the Ninty home consoles, too.

          As for having no balls, I’m on a blog where I can get attacked by some raging Nintendo fanboy at any minute with a big target on my back because of my name. Not sure how much ballsier I can get.

          As for having no clue, I’ve grown up with Nintendo as I slowly stopped being a Nintendo fanboy myself, so I’ve become wise to their bullshit over the last several years. I’m pretty sure I know more about how Nintendo works than most on here.

          You can disagree all you want but it won’t change anything. If you don’t like my opinions, don’t read them. Simple as that.

  1. The fact that it’s going to Xbox over Switch is an insult. There’s no market for this kind of game on Microsoft’s systems.

    Not to mention this franchise has no following there having had no games on Xbox previously, while it’s at least got some following with it’s handful of Nintendo games.

  2. Kingdom hearts 3 on a Nintendo platform is a given. I mean why put so much games on the platform and then decide not to include it. We had chain of memories, 358/2 days and 3d,while the Xbox had nothing and Xbox is still getting support. I really hope they port it over and realize there’s more potential sales on switch than on Xbox guaranteed

  3. And the game is releasing when? 2020?
    This is how it will go:
    They release the game by the end of the ps4 and xbone life cycle, they will announce “remaster” for the latest msony twins, and excuse Switch version because of “power”.

    1. Alternate path: Switch gets a sloppy port year or 2 after everyone interested has played the game, and they will have the audacity to ask 60$ for it.

  5. Myself personally I don’t care I hate Square and Disney so meh … but if it comes great for those who like it

  6. I doubt that it will come to the switch because developer are just too lazy and if it comes to the switch it will only be in 30fps and……… they are too lazy maybe the game will launch in the switch but it might come out in 2018 or 2019 the most possible answer is (if the game do lauch in switch) it will come out in 2019.

    1. Wait im not sure when will the game come out but just too make sure forget what i say about the 2018 or 2019 but im still sure that the game will come out two years after it comes out for other console.

  7. “Kingdom Hearts 3 Director Says Switch Version Possible”, yeah, until they decide it isn’t possible.
    Tbh I’m sick and tired of hearing about this damn game and it’s developers! BTW Square Enix where the F@#! is my Parasite Eve 4 and new Front Mission!?

  8. Well that leaves a sliver of hope. Unfortunately I’m looking forward to KH3 AND FF7.
    Either way this leaves some possibility of me buying a Switch.

  9. Even if a port does happen, I don’t see it happening until much later from the PS4 and Xbone release much like with Yooka Laylee. I still see myself buying a PS4 next year to play this.

  10. I don’t think that anyone will buy this on XBox One. Japanese don’t have XBones and Western XBone owners usually play shooters or sports games. This should have been a PS4 + Switch game from the get-go!

  11. If that’s the case, then how about Switch ports of 1 & 2. You know, for people who never played this series before.

  12. If Kingdom Hearts 3 is possible, then I hope 1.5 & 2.5 are also possible (cause it’d be cool to be able to play the Kingdom Hearts trilogy on Switch, I really need to start the series soon…)

  13. Ridley X3 {Jaded Ninty fan. Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4. Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch; just need cloud storage, add external HDD support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

    Good for those either only getting a Switch because they choose to limit themselves to one console because they don’t think they need another console or those that can sadly only afford a Switch because they can’t afford anything beyond that.

    As for me, I already got Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX on my PS4 so I’m gonna be getting KH3 on there, too. Maybe if the Wii & Wii U didn’t hold Nintendo back over the last 10 years from the rest of the competition, maybe I’d be singing a different tune right now & getting these games on Switch in the near future.

  15. I want it for switch. As some said before, it’s not fair that microsoft’s fat greasy cock was able to get a port when some of the handhelds have history with nintendo. #kingdomhearts.
