The Splatfest has now ended ahead of Splatoon 2‘s release later this week, but it seems that it wasn’t just new maps that were discovered during the brief online play window this weekend.
Twitter user @hypwnotic found out that after four disconnects, a warning message comes up to advise that if this continues, they will temporarily block you from playing online for an unspecified amount of time.
The user did mention in a later Tweet that they were not deliberately disconnecting, it was because their internet was having issues. However, it’s interesting to know that Nintendo are taking action against repeat disconnects, because it’s unfair on other players when someone deliberately leaves the game early.
||It was the same in the first one…||
Didn’t have a single disconnect during a match during the four hours. Was actually pretty impressed with the online, didn’t see a bit of lag.
People leaving matches early ON PURPOSE are scum and I’m glad this will counter that. It really sucks for people with bad internet connections though :/ I had to do a lot of research about providers and get the right router to have my connection as smooth as possible so I guess they would have to do the same.
i got a communication error about 50 times and it blocked me for 5 minutes
shit this happen to me wiiu mario kar 8 yet they said it was my internet. if it was my internet, why my ps4 didn’t disconnect
there is just something about this game my mario kart 8 deluxe is running perfectly but this game doesn’t

Some games need to implement this.
I wonder if this will be across all modes or just ranked. I’m all for doling out justice to repeat offenders when rank is on the line; don’t quit just because the enemy starts in the lead.
I have leavers more often than I would like in Overwatch.
the block it for 5 minutes bud, I have another picture stating this.

Well even if I was gonna get Splatoon 2 at some point, this definitely will keep me from getting the game now. I have SHITTY internet sometimes so cya!
then get better internet.
I got the best internet provider in my area so I can’t get better internet.
Besides, I’m not getting this game regardless & was simply speaking in terms of if I ever decided to that this is a deal breaker.
That’s too bad then, its really an awesome game. Got done playing as team icecream via testfire Saturday, it was all smooth gameplay but the lobby did have trouble connecting a few times. Other than that, I didn’t dc not once and I didn’t experience lag either.
During the match, it was flawless. But when it comes to waiting in the lobby, it’s pretty bad. It would take up to 10 minutes to find a full lobby before getting random connection errors. Lobbies needs to be improved, but gameplay is excellent.
I have made it clear that I think this is wrong. If per say something needed your immediate attention and you had to bail out the match. Things do happen that are beyond our own control, and I fall under this as I suffer with chronic health issues that can distract me from the game.
I too was experiencing these messages but I have a really good internet package with a ping of 9 and download of 71mpbs so I’m not entirely sure why these errors kept happening. I’m wondering if it could be other players with bad internet?

I mean what if the disconnects were from faulty connections and not from the player quitting a match voluntarily? That would just piss them off.
Ouch, that’s pretty bad… Guess I will have to wait for a better internet connection before buying this game.
I think I’m ok with this. It sucks if your internet connection is poor, but Nintendo has to think about the enjoyment of the 7 other people in that match.
